Question: "How do I find a specific song or lesson?"

Answer: Search the very helpful Cynthia Lin Song Index - see below for instructions on how to use it.

New in September 2022: VIDEO GUIDE: How to use the Song Index: https://youtu.be/IlfvIKfVeKU

You might have noticed that Patreon is not the easiest website to search for specific content. Sometimes it can be hard to find the lesson or song you are seeking.

You might have also noticed that my lessons, play-alongs, and chord sheets exist in several places on the internet. There are public YouTube videos and public chord sheets on Gumroad, private videos and chord sheets accessible only via Patreon, and even Facebook jams.

To help Patrons of all levels navigate my content across multiple sites, my Community Managers created and maintain The Cynthia Lin Song Index as a "master resource" available to all.  Please join me in giving the Community Managers a huge thank you for documenting all of this!!! 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽

Find it here: http://bit.ly/CLindex

Tips for using the Cynthia Lin Song Index

Note that there are multiple numbered tabs making up the spreadsheet, including the following categories:

1) Public tutorials and play-alongs (You-Tube, available to all)
2) Patreon lessons and chord sheets available to $1/month Patrons (and all higher levels) -- this is a great reference for $5 Patrons, as well. See also Tab 5 (public/all Patron posts)
3) Patreon lessons and chord sheets available to $10/month Patrons (and all higher levels)
4) Patreon lessons and chord sheets available to $20/month Patrons (and all higher levels)
5) Patreon lessons and chord sheets that are available to the public and all Patrons
6) Voice and Bass lesson highlights
(some Public, some Patron-Only)

If you've been using the Song Index prior to November 2020 and like searching on the older "master" version tab of this spreadsheet, you can still find that information (scroll to the right on the tabs navigational bar), as well as tabs with older Facebook jams (available to anyone who can access my Cynthia Lin Music Facebook page), and a master list of all public YouTube posts.

Remember: if you’re not finding what you’re looking for, try searching on other tabs.

Question: "Where do I see the TABS, to navigate between them?"

Answer: The spreadsheet may look slightly different depending on whether you are on a phone, tablet, app, browser, laptop, desktop computer, etc. Here are two examples of where to find the tabs:

1. On this iPhone, the tab navigation bar is at the bottom of the screen and you swipe on that bar to "slide it" and see more tabs:

2. On this desktop computer, the tab navigation bar is at the bottom of the screen, with arrow buttons on the right hand side for navigation.

How to search for a word or phrase in the spreadsheet:

  1. Open the Song Index via the link or Google Drive app/site.
  2. Navigate to the tab you wish to search.
  3. Hit Command+F or Control+F to use the Find function - hold down the Command or Control (⌘ on an Apple/Mac) key on your laptop or desktop computer, then press “F.”*
  4. Type the song name or search term you are looking for into the pop-up search bar.
  5. Scroll through the results.

*On a phone or tablet using the Google Drive/Sheets app, choose “Find and Replace” from the sidebar menu. Access this in the upper right corner of the screen by clicking on the “...”, then type your term(s) into the search bar and navigate through any results.

I hope this resource helps you navigate Patreon, YouTube, and Facebook, to find the songs and chord sheets for which you're looking. It will continue to  be updated regularly by Community Managers.

Question: "Where do I find the PDF that goes along with a lesson, once I've located the lesson?"

Answer: The PDF(s) will be attached at the bottom of the Patreon post, next to a paperclip icon. Please see the following two screenshots for an example. Scroll to the bottom of the post and click on the link for the PDF you'd like to download.

Cynthia E Becker

Was there a play-along or lesson for What's Up? My chord chart says July 2020 but looks like that is Lean on Me.

Tatiana Castro

Hi! Is there a full play along of stairway to heaven? (Parts 1,2&3)

Carol Owens

Find Cynthia with Kalei for aNueNue first in conversation and then playing all the way thru! It’s not exactly what we’re looking for but definitely worth checking out. Then do play along with them. We will just do our best w/ Part 3 which I do not have yet.

Linda Austin

Hi Jenny Selig! I read the instructions about posting to Open Mic but I am pathetically tech-challenged!! I'd love to get Cynthia's comments on my playing. How do I post a short video? I'm on a Mac and I have my videos stored on my laptop in the Photos app and in iCloud. Do I create a Shared Album that Cynthia (and anyone in this community) to access? Or is there any easier way to post a video? Thanks!

T.J. Higgins

Just got the June/July 2023 Community Check-In & Newsletter. I'm just a beginner, but after the Sammy Turton video I must know how harmonics work. That song was fantastic

Kathy Bartolomeo

Trying to call someone regarding my account. Extra $ is being withdrawn. Who can I contact? I have tried a few ways and recently mailed a letter to CA address.

Jenny Selig

Hi, Kathy. I messaged you about this through Patreon in July. DId you see that? I don't see extra charges on our end. I suggest this link to get in touch with Patreon Help, but perhaps you've tried it: support.patreon.com/hc/en-us/articles/206213036-Charged-more-than-my-membership-amount

Dawn Eury

"I don't know if this is where I should ask this questions but here goes: I am new this year to playing the UKE and have trouble with strumming. When Cynthia does the swing strum, is she using her thumb through the whole strum or does she use her index finger?"

Sabine

She uses her index finger. Swing strum is a kind of delay, so it may sound like thumb.

Barbara Harris

I have been a member for several years, and now I'm having to sign in every time I'm trying to use the site. Plus, it doesn't recognize my password anymore. I'm getting SO frustrated. Help!!

Jenny Selig

Hi, Barbara. Have you contacted Patreon help? This is sometime a device issue -- your login isn't being saved in the device you're using.

Alice Silva

That has happened to me too on another patreon site

Marilyn Chang

Hi, i'm looking for a song off the Live 5@5 November 16th 2023 broadcast that i don't see in the song index. The song is Always by Atlantic Starr. I love Cynthia 's version would like to learn it. If anyone has info on it, thanks in advance!

Barbara Harris

How do I find play alongs on YouTube? They're not in the Song Index and when I try to search for them I can't seem to find them!

Caroline Carlson-ives

I have been paying $1 for years but not knowing how to use the access to songs, the guide seems confusing for my senior brain, can you help me

CJ

Hi Cynthia, I'm not able to comment on Youtube so I will communicate here. Your 5 @ 5 video from last week, Aug 28, is not well synchronized and I am trying to decipher the strum on "Dock Of The Bay" at the beginning of the video but am struggling to put together what I see and what I hear. Can you please clarify this strum for me? Thank you. CJ

Lynn Corin

Am trying to download the August 2024 Intermediate Songbook (from the funky muting sessions - Faith by George Michael and others). But I get an error message and a blank document. Any ideas?

Jenny Selig

Hi, Lynn. I tested it and it opened right up for me on my desktop computer. Maybe try a different device/browser (depending on whether you're on app or browser)?

Jan Fell

Is the Dec. 2024 calendar up[ - can't seem to find it? Thank you

Saylor Wright

I can never find my way with this patreon site. very frustrating

Cindy Armstrong

I can't find the song sheet for Cynthia's "What a Wonderful World". I searched everywhere. Help please.

Helen Priest

Is there a tutorial for perhaps perhaps perhaps! TIA

Urta Steinhäuser

Is there any part 3 (or even 4) of the song Stairway to heaven?

Jenny Selig

Yes, Part III has been taught -- see links in post above. Cynthia has no plans to tab out or teach the solo.

Helen Priest

Hi, I cant find the music sheet for the 'imagine' . I found the tutorial.

Kathleen Piche

Hi, just joined and am looking for the singing tutorial?

Star Siegfried

I am looking for the lessons you talked about today on the live Jam (11/9) Where can I find the monthly lessons? thanks star

Jenny Selig

Everything is on the spreadsheet, Star. Take a look at the Patreon tab. When I look at it, that's the second tab. "Patreon Jams/Live Lessons." Most months for 2019 there are three (or more!) -- one at the $5 level that opens up to everyone the following month, one at the $10 level and 1 at the $20 level. So what you can access depends on your level. Enjoy!

Janet Carroll

Is the "second tab" the column that says "You tube". There are a lot more songs than what can be found in the song index. How can I find those lessons? For example, I would like to find the lesson for "Here, There, and Everywhere" from 10/15/17. Also, what is the difference between a live jam and a lesson?

Jenny Selig

The tabs are whole pages of the spreadsheet, not columns. Sounds like you're just looking at the first tab with YouTube Tutorials and Playalongs. At the bottom of the screen (on my browser) is where I change tabs/pages. If you know the date of the lesson you're looking for, as in your example above, you can also use the Patreon page tools to find all the lessons from Oct. 2017

Jenny Selig

Cynthia has called the $10 and $20 live sessions "jams" and the $5 level live session a lesson (meaning teaching a new song), but I wouldn't put too much stock in what it's called, as some of the $10 and $20 level live sessions are jams and some are lessons and some are both! This year especially she has started teaching more songs in the "jams."

Janet Carroll

Great! Can you describe using the Patreon page tools to find lessons by date. I'm excited about that idea.

Jenny Selig

You may need to be on a desktop or laptop to do it. I’ve never tried it on phone or tablet, and it may not work there. While on a creator’s page, such as Cynthia’s, I have a left hand column that allows me to “filter” posts by month. Or sometimes it's at the top of the page. It’s usually near where Tags are listed. Hope that helps. I can’t post a picture here. I'm not sure why Patreon doesn't seem to cover this in their Help articles.

Janet Carroll

This website is quite frustrating. I was learning a lesson on "Ain't No Sunshine". The date below the lesson was 9/13/19. Now when I go to September 2019, that lesson is nowhere to be found. Do the dates change on the lessons?

Janet Carroll

Can anyone help me find the "Beginner Holiday Jam" chord packet which has 12 songs on it--not the 6 song version.

John Dunn

I notice that not all the songs/lessons are on the CL Song Index which I use often to get to tutorials. I noticed on the invite for the 2020 open mic there is a list of 2019 songs & lessons but they are not on the Song Index. Will you be updating? What is the best way to access the most up to date Song Index? Thx.

Jenny Selig

They're all there, John. Make sure you're looking at the Patreon Tab, not the Public tutorials/playalongs tab. I actually used the CL Song Index to help Cynthia make that list, so I saw that they're all there. There are four tabs, updated regularly. Whenever you open it it's the most recent version.

John Dunn

Ahh....I get it. Sorry I had not noticed the 4 tabs. Everything I am looking for is there and what a great resource this is!

Jenny Selig

Happy to help! We'll try to make that a bit more clear on the first tab. You're not alone. :)

Vicki Bengeult

Thanks for all your work on the spreadsheet, Jenny. I really wish there were a way to search for specific techniques - like 'pump strum' or 'finger picking' - but this is an issue with Patreon, which is not a friendly platform. The timestamps for different songs in the longer videos are really helpful!

Jenny Selig

We are definitely working on how to better catalog songs and techniques. Thanks!

Anne Doherty

Hi all.....So I am trying to use the Song Index..decided to search for a song that I know Cynthia has done. I picked Brown eyed girl.. I am trying to follow the instructions..typed the name in the search bar ...and nothing......what is the step to make the index actually search?? Cheers!

Jenny Selig

It works like a spreadsheet, so what you do is command F (find) and then type in the word you're looking for and press return. You need to also make sure you're on the right tab. I find Brown Eyed Girl in many places.

Annie

Is there an intermediate jam songbook?

Keira Henry

Thanks for all the info. I've just joined Patreon after following Cynthia on you tube for a couple of years as a beginner. Looking forward to playing with you all and progressing my playing 😀🎶🎼🎸

Mary Lou Fairweather

I need help. I kept upping my membership to unlock lessons and songs. My membership says I am at the $20 level, but nothing is unlocked, I can't access any songs or lessons except the freebies.

Jenny Selig

Mary Lou, there's the amount you're paying and there is also the reward tier. Sometimes they don't match up. Try going here to reset your reward tier: patreon.com/join/cynthialin and choose to Join at $20. You should not get charged more, it will just update your tier. If you get charged more, send a message to Cynthia (and me) via the Patreon messaging system. Hopefully this will give you access!

Josie Adams

How do I find certain lessons like cord transitions?

Sue Schuster

Adding my thanks, too, Jenny. Even though I have been learning from Cynthia for a couple of years I never looked at this resource. I am not very techie and still have paper copies of songs. I’ve got way too many to thumb thru. These spread sheets are great! I know a lot of work goes into maintaining these. It is much appreciated. Now, if I could only master any of the “B” cords...........🤗

Lesley Byrns

Way back in Winter 2019, Cynthia had a 4-week class. "Shallow" was one of the songs we learned. Are these songs grouped as a class somewhere? We also learned "L-O-V-E", "A Million Dreams," and "Hotel California." I'm a $20 Patreon member but I can't find "L-O-V-E" or "A Million Dreams" on the playlist. Will you please direct me? Thanks so much.

Jenny Selig

Hi, Lesley.I was in that class, too! Classes are not on this song index because people paid separately for those. They're not included in the Patreon lessons. However, many of them have also been taught here on Patron. Unfortunately, I don't believe either "LOVE" or "A Million Dreams" have been taught to Patrons. My recommendation would be to look back through your email archives for the class emails from those lessons. They would have been sent from SFUkuleleClasses@gmail.com. Almost any of those emails would contain the links to our class folder on Google Drive with links to the lessons. The Hotel California one may have been blocked at one time for Copyright, but I don't believe the other songs were. Lesley, if you can't find the link to the folder, send me an email at cynthialin.team@gmail and I'll help you out.

Donita Winters

I’ve searched everywhere for Put Your Records On and can’t find it. I was told it was taught a few years back.

Jenny Selig

Hi, Donita. I believe that song was taught in a class Cynthia taught online or in person -- not on Patreon. It would make a great Patron lesson!

Nasti Hase

Gosh, this index is so amazing! Thank you very much. This is a real hack :-). Thank you so much for all these great classes! VERY INSPIRING, the whole thing!

Brian Kadle

wow! great resource... I'm just going to have to spend some time navigating. Did it stop in Jan '22 though.. don't see anything for Feb or March 2022 or is that still in the works? Thank you for all the great material!

Celi Rodriguez

Hello everyone. Im new. Have only been playing the ukelele now for 8 months.

Anita Blanchette

How do I download a copy of the chord chart for any given song that I'm learning? I've taken several of the tutorials but can't find where to download the corresponding chart so that I can practice on my own apart from the video.

Anita Blanchette

Jenny - I'm sorry but your reply doesn't make sense to me. I'm navigating the CL song list spreadsheet and clicking on links to lessons in Column D which takes me to the lesson. Once I'm there, I don't see a place where I can grab and download the chord chart that's being used by whichever given teacher is giving the lesson. It would be super helpful if there was an additional column that had a link for the chord chart/s being used for the corresponding lessons. Anyway, I've spent over 3 hours trying to figure out how to get Patreon private chord charts for the lessons I've taken and it's not user friendly at all. Very frustrating as a donor.

Jenny Selig

Sorry you’re finding it confusing, Anita. The link to a lesson should take you to the Patreon post for that lesson. I don’t know how to link to the pdf directly. It’s hosted on the Patreon post. If you scroll to the bottom of the Patreon post there should be a pdf link for download. Update: I attached two screenshots to the FAQ post on this page (above the comments here) to show you what I mean. :) If you still can't see it I would ask what kind of device are you on? Are you viewing Patron through a browser or the app? I would suggest trying a different device and/or browser. I have heard of some people having trouble seeing the links from tablets, but not in a while.

Jenny Selig

Hi, Anita! I attached two screenshots to the FAQ post on this page to show you what I mean. :)

Daniel De La Cruz

Hi everyone I’m new as well and would like to know if there is any way I could find chord chart to any music? I would like to see if I like the way you love me by Brenton Wood? If anyone could get back to me it would be greatly appreciated.

Jenny Selig

Welcome! This post you commented on gives the instructions for finding chords for specific songs. But I don’t think Cynthia has taught that one.

Phil Whailing

How can I get the part 3 tutorial for Stairway to Heaven

Piero

OK Cyn: found the amazon present for you: Koss Porta Pro (so you can even lose it on the beach!) Love

Marge Cramton

I'm not seeing any tabs - all I can see is the intro page...?

Jenny Selig

I have just uploaded two sample pictures in the post above with examples of where you might see the tab navigation bar. On my devices they are at the bottom of the screen, but different devices can look different.

Jenny Selig

Not a problem! I am sure you weren't the only one, so I'm happy to have added the screenshots.

Jenny Selig

I have a MacBook Air but I haven't looked for a Patreon app. I just use it on my internet browser. You can certainly check the app store to see if they have Patreon for laptop.

Lorrt

How do I unsubscribe. My account is rolling over each month, and I wish to stop it please.
