Aloha, Patrons!

This coming spring, on April 4, 2020, I'll be offering a special one day Ukulele Retreat in New York City, where local participants will have the opportunity to attend workshops, play in parts together as a group, and participate in a flash mob (if the weather cooperates)!  If you're in the NYC area, I hope youʻll join us!  This will be my only east coast event of the year.

TICKETS and more info: https://e.sparxo.com/nycukeretreat

Iʻm happy to offer a discount to Patrons who wish to attend.  Patrons can find the discount code at the bottom of December's Patron Calendar Post!

More about the 2020 NYC Uke Retreat

I've never done an event like this before, and I'm excited to have a whole day to work with a group of ukulele players. In our two workshops, we’ll focus on performance techniques, but there will also be time for jamming and an open mic. I hope to get at least one of our songs recorded as a video while we're together.

In this one-day ukulele retreat you will have a unique opportunity to:
* meet other local ukulele enthusiasts
* work on your ukulele skills
* perform and record a video with the group
* play an open mic in a supportive space (optional)
* give your playing a boost or help you define practice goals.

Our in-person space is limited to 90 spots, so please purchase your spot soon if you wish to join.

WORKSHOP SCHEDULE:
April 4, 2020 (10am-6:30pm)

10 am * Doors open - Enter at 239 Thompson Street (ring the bell for The Assembly Hall and head downstairs). Meet Cynthia and other local players.  A selection of Cynthia's CDs and merch will be available for purchase. Be sure to sign up for our Lunchtime Open Mic!

10:30 am - 12 pm * Workshop 1 - Technique: In this 90 minute workshop, Cynthia will teach a song for a wide variety of levels.  Beginners will be grouped together and play a simpler rhythm/strum.  Cynthia will present more challenging variations for intermediate and advanced players.

12-1:30 pm * Lunch Break and Open Mic - Bring a brown bag lunch or grab something to eat at one of many nearby spots. 4-minute Open Mic spots will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.  All are encouraged to give it a try!

1:30-3:00 pm * Workshop 2 - Performance: We will put together the various parts of the song from the morning workshop and focus on preparing a group performance that we can record. We'll practice as a group and shoot a video to share with Cynthia's students and followers online.

3-3:15 pm * 15 Minute Break - Restrooms are across the hall. Several coffee shops and bodegas are around the corner on/near West 3rd street, if you need a snack.

3:15-4:45 pm * All-Levels Jam - Strum along with Cynthia and other attendees on some of her most-loved arrangements.

5:00-6:00 pm * Pack Up and Load Out - All are invited to cross the street with us to Washington Square Park for a...

6:00 pm * Ukulele Flash Mob! We'll surprise park-goers with a song we have practiced playing together.

FAQ: Am I skilled enough for the Retreat?
Please know the basics (complete Beginner Lessons #1-6 on YouTube).  Beyond that, a positive attitude is enough.

Please let me know if you have other questions.  Hope to see you in NYC in April!

I am signed up and SO excited. I found your beginner videos when I first picked up the uke a couple of years ago and you are by far the best teacher around. Can’t wait.

My 9 year old is interested in joining but we're not sure, are kids welcome?

Jenny Selig

Hi! I'm local in NYC and helping Cynthia with the event. Kids are welcome if they're accompanied/supervised by a parent/guardian ticket holder and that parent/guardian thinks the child would enjoy the event! :) So you're welcome to purchase a ticket for her if that's the case. Hope to see you there!
