This month, I'll teach my original song "Aquamarine."

First, thank you so much for supporting the new album In Waves, and for supporting my original music.  Now that the album is out in the world, I'm finally feeling ready to teach you all this song.  It's hard to get away from the way I wrote the song - I kind of had to think of it as arranging someone else's song.

It has been enlightening for me to step back from my own song, so that I can prepare it for other people to play.   I've adapted the song a bit, to make it easier to teach and more accommodating for all levels.  I look forward to getting your feedback about the adaptation of the song, and I'll share a little more about the structure and the songwriting.

Reminder - we'll warm up with last month's Live Lesson song at the start of our time together. Watch the August 2020 Live Lesson on "Rainbow Connection" if you’d like to review.

A note about our monthly Live Lessons

My goal is to teach and arrange a lesson that is interesting for all levels.  I will walk through the lesson by starting with beginner-level strumming, and gradually layer on more challenging options for advanced players.

I encourage you to play at your level, and embrace your own pace of incrementally leveling up. You can re-watch the lesson as many times as you like.  Grasp the basics on the first go-round, and each time you review, you'll pick up new tips and techniques. You can use this method to become a better student and better learner - by building more awareness and more patience. :)

How to Watch Live

1. Click on this direct link to the lesson: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HIu3ZroRgmk

For those who are new, please note this is a private link, intended for Patrons only.

2. Log in to YouTube to join the live chat, and please say hello!  I can't see that you're watching unless you chat.  If you have trouble using chat on a mobile device/ tablet, you may want to try on a desktop or laptop browser.

Susie Bingham

Thank you for sharing this wonderful song. IT's my favorite!!!! (so far - LOL)

John Michael North

This appears to be an intermediate arrangement and it may be too difficult for me , but I'll tune in to the live lesson and try my best.

Mad4Uke Paris

I agree it’s a challenge for a beginner. I’m doing pretty well. Makes me feel nearly intermediate. I’m cheating by using my thumb and 1,23instead o

Mad4Uke Paris

oops. And 1,2 3 on the 3 lower strings. Thumb on top. But Cynthia-you always say that there are no rules. Does this pass as well?

Mad4Uke Paris

for the tough Bbmaj and Cmaj 7* Chords

SONIA BARDES

I need to learn the next level please Cynthia !! With an intermediate lesson ?? Thank you soooo much ;D xo

Allyn McColley

I had to temporarily switch to the easier-for-me inversions of those 4 bar chords. Doesn’t sound as nice but I’m glad I can now play along with this wonderful song,

Vicki Lowman

Thank you so much for sharing this with us, I love this song! Those verse chords sure are tough on the left hand & wrist but I’m getting them! I just need to practice and build up that strength, so I am looking forward to making progress & eventually perfecting it 😊

Rachel McCrimmon

i love the sound of those challenging chords, daunting but worth it. Thank you for sharing this song!

John Michael North

This was challenging for me, but the challenge is what makes it fun. I have a problem with my left hand that makes fingering some chords very difficult, so I often use alternative fingerings, but it still sounds good. A nice arrangement of a nice song.

Is anyone here is a fan of the song “Perfect” by Ed Sheehan? Hi Cynthia i hope this song will be voted in the future to be on live lesson, Ive been desperately want to learn this song and haven’t found any help on YouTube or other sources, still hoping it will be chosen and will be here one day. Thank you and greeting from Canada

Liberty

I would love to go back to voting for songs, will it ever come back?

Jenny Selig

I saw Cynthia answer this on another post -- there's no plan to reinstate the vote. But you can always suggest songs in comments on Patreon posts.
