Aloha, Patrons!!

Welcome to all the New Patrons who've just joined us!  Please see the bottom of this post for resources to get started in our community.  Introduce yourself, take time to look around, check out our Welcome Guide / FAQ post, and learn to use the Cynthia Lin Song Index to find lessons and videos.  We're so happy to have you here!

Community announcements

🗣 The February Vocal Workshop series starts Tuesday, February 8th - This month's Workshop will be a continuation of the January series, so if you're joining us for the first time, take this weekend to review those recorded lessons.  Here are direct links to Lesson 1, Lesson 2, and Lesson 3 to catch up.  When you change your Patreon tier to the $30 Vocal Workshop tier, you will get access to these posts.

To change your Patreon tier, go to https://patreon.com/join/cynthialin and choose your new tier.  Be sure to change the Tier and not just the amount.  You will only be charged for the difference in upgrading your tier.  If you took the December workshop but skipped January, please review these lessons so they're fresh.

Going forward, I think I will call this tier the Voice and Performance Tier.  I'd like to schedule 2 live Zoom events a month for this Tier, one early and one late, so that folks in different timezones can attend live.  Thanks for supporting this new tier!  I've really enjoyed teaching these classes and stretching beyond my usual material.  And seeing Patrons in real life has been awesome too!

🥳 Pre-lesson Zoom Socials - In January, we tried out having a brief (25 minute) Zoom Social before our Live Lesson so that folks could hang out and get to know each other a bit.  I heard a lot of positive feedback, and I thought it added some extra Patron-connection energy to our Lesson!  I'd like to do that again before both our Beginner Jam next week and our Live Lesson the following week.  I figure folks will have a lot to talk about regarding 100 Days, so we could try meeting both weeks - if that's too much, we'll go back to just one the following month.  If Intermediate Jam folks want a Zoom Social as well, we can certainly add it to the calendar.

💯 100 Days of Ukulele starts Feb 13 - All levels of players can participate in sharing their daily ukulele practice - it's all about your creative journey.  If you're curious about joining, check out our FAQ: http://bit.ly/100daysukeFAQ.  We also did a special 100 Days Q&A in this week's 5@5, click here to go directly to that segment.  You can also find tips from past year's participants.

Our 2022 Facebook group just went LIVE, and you can join it here if you're on Facebook.  It is the easiest platform for connecting with others during this Project.  Our Community Manager Jenny leads the group, and we have several moderators and group experts who can help answer questions and offer encouragement and support.  We also have a community on Instagram who will be using the hashtag #100DaysUke2022 to find each other.  Follow that tag to lend your support and drop encouraging comments to this year's participants!  Tag @clukesquad to get reshared when you reach milestones.

I think we'll do a livestream on Friday before the project begins to answer any last questions - I've been meaning to do a tutorial about how to shoot better videos, so perhaps I can do that during the livestream.  If you've checked out the resources above and still have questions, feel free to comment below, and we'll try to answer here and in the livestream.

I realized that I'm really looking forward to the 100 Days project because I get to immerse myself in new music and new learning.  Follow your passion, because you never know where it will lead.  Let's see where we go!

For anyone new , I highly recommend Cynthia’s app for access to all things “Cynthia”. It is truly one of the best designed and best functioning apps I have ever used. I share the design, quality and simplicity of the app to many people even if they aren’t Uke enthusiasts. If there is such a thing! Well done Cynthia!

Aloha from Petaluma, CA. I have been playing for about 5 years now, but only in the last 2 years during the pandemic do I feel like I picked it up a notch. I now have 6 ukuleles (all really different voices). I try to practice daily and make it a habit I really enjoy in the evenings after work. My friend and I get together every Thursday and really enjoy your arrangements, tutorials and play alongs.

Nice job This is the first time I actually read through the links. Normally I just skip to what I’m looking for. I have had time to read and enjoy the complete post. I work at a hospital finally caught Covid so I’m home getting well. I’ve enjoyed these links very much. Thank you All your hard work shows and is appreciated.

David Gatti

I've only been playing for a year now but have progressed well and just bought my 3rd uke. The first was a Kala concert, the 2nd a slim Kala travel uke (which I wont care about scratching) and the 3rd is a Kala tenor which I intend to convert to low G. I'm curious what ukes you have purchased.

Leslie Lindeman

I’ve been playing (or trying to) for about a year and a half. A friend built me a beautiful concert ukulele and he said I couldn’t have it unless I committed to learning to play. Having fun so far, but looking forward to improving both my playing and singing. BTW, I’m 71 years old - time to teach an old dog new tricks! :)

Joe Tabeling

Hi Leslie. It's totally possible ... I'm 68! You'll love the community here and Cynthia makes it easy and fun. I've been playing for not quite a year and learning a lot while following her lead. I'm sure you will, too.

Vanessa Causley

I started learning ukulele when I was 63, 7 years ago. I have been a patron all that time and love being a member. I have learned so much along the way,Cynthia is a fantastic teacher and explains it all so well.

Maureen Soar

Started on the ukulele (my first instrument!) in mid-November 2021. Struggling with the rhythm portion more than the chords. Looking forward to learning!

Theresa SC

I acquired my first ukulele 1/20/22, it is a concert size with a high G. My 2nd ukulele came home on 2/1/22, this one is a lovely tenor with a low G. The tenor seems to first me better than the concert and I really like the low G. This is the first musical instrument that I have ever played and so far it has been a blast. Your videos have been so helpful.

In October 2021, Two weeks after I did not recognize the face of someone I should know in a restaurant, I got scared and bought Ulkulele to train my brain 😉 I heard playing music and using finger will be good for my soul and brain. I play Ohana concert Ukulele. I am having so much fun, and wondering why I never learned music…for more than a half century….

Saundra McDowell

Hi everyone, I just joined Cynthia’s Patreon group. I am at present in Guatemala on my sailboat. My husband and I live 6 months on our boat and then 6 months at our home in Texas. So I have a variety of instruments on my boat; a recorder, a frame drum and a Ukulele. I can’t play anything very well….a frustrated wannabe musician! But, at 71 I am now committed to learning my ukulele….how could I not living in the Western Caribbean. I searched the internet for uke teachers and felt that Cynthia was perfect for me. So I am glad to be part of this community. I am practicing at least 30 minutes a day, my fingers hurt and are numb….but I find myself fingering the chords in my head while trying to go to sleep. So I am committed and excited. I have learned 3 Little Birds pretty well, but am amazed at all there still is to learn with chord changes and strumming. Hoping to make new connections in this old yet curious brain of mine!

Tiffeny Velazquez

Hello everyone. My name is Tiffeny Velazquez. I have been playing for a year now. Finally getting the chucking down and now the finger picking. I really enjoy Cynthia Lin's teaching styles. They're very easy and understandable. My husband and I have been married almost 25 years and have 4 beautiful children together. My health put me out of work right before the pandemic so I decided to start playing the ukulele. I love it and enjoy learning new songs and different playing styles. My husband is recognizing the songs I have been playing. My next project will be to start learning to play some favorite Spanish songs of ours.
