Aloha, Patrons!

Playing ukulele (and working on computers and mobile devices) can build tension in the arms, wrists, and fingers.  This warm-up routine is a reminder to get the blood flowing before you practice, and continually work on strength and flexibility.  It can also be used to stretch and relax after you play.  I find it so relaxing - it makes me yawn like crazy!

Watch Wrist + Finger Stretch tutorial: https://youtu.be/dTaQ-j1aZ0k

Thanks to the Patrons for early feedback on this routine at our Live Lesson this week!  Please do let me know if any specific exercises really hit the spot.  Are you more aware of areas of tension?  Can you practice more awareness when it comes to finger and wrist strength and flexibility?

Thanks for watching!  Happy weekend!

xo cynthia.

I love the warmups. I do them before every practice and event. 🥰

After a recent stroke which affected my chording arm and hand, I have a series of daily exercises I perform (some as many as 5 to 6 sets per day). I will add all your regimen to those exercises. Ukulele chords I used to play effortlessly are not quite so easy now. I have completed home health occupational therapy and plan to apply for outpatient OT. I have a neurology appointment scheduled and hope I get more information about what else I can do. I am an ukulele fingerpicker with a tutorial in the works. I showed some of my finger picking in some of the 19 videos I posted (before the stroke) for 100daysuke2022. I just restarted playing ukulele two weeks ago (no playing for more than two months). My picking fingers are rusty now. I can not thank you enough for this video. I have not gotten back to your lessons yet. 👏👏👏👏🌹 Bob Dowell

These are great, thanks so much! I was familiar with the last one, my yoga teacher taught it years ago and I like it so much I do it while watching tv.

Great exercises, Cynthia. It is SO easy to just pick up a ukulele and start playing, but your video was a perfect reminder that we really do need to exercise our fingers, wrists and forearms. And they all feel so much better right now. Thanks!!! 💗 -rick

Thank you. I found this helpful as a new Uke player, I feel the soreness in my hands from practicing. These are some practical exercises to help.

Melinda Palacio

These are so great, wish I had started doing them a year ago.

Barbara Marsh

great stretch. Got some pops and snaps out of my hands. My old Pipe Major's Dad (bagpipes) , while a boy in Scotland, made him carry buckets of water to the animals with his pinkys . Strengthened his birl finger. Made him a champion piper, but this is more reasonable.

I am delighted to have these exercises to help me since my hands and wrists often tire quickly from playing. I think these will help my endurance and flexibility - I even feel it now while typing!

Suzanne Boulay

Really good exercise ideas. They are helpful for comfort, playing the uke, and knitting. Thanks!

Ellen Black

Thank you so much! Also very relaxing as well would appreciate more exercises. Thank you again.

Jill Madden

Thank you Cynthia! This is great advice for my old hands and will now be including this routine into my practice to build up strength.

This was really helpful. 20 days ago I was in nasty Motorcycle accident and broke my leg and general systemic aches and pains. Since I am not to put any weight on that casted leg, I’ve been playing a lot. Six weeks of being down might not be as bad as it could have been.
