Aloha, Patrons!

I am thrilled to share that I've arranged for a special Introduction to Hula workshop for Patrons!  Hula might look easy and flowing, but the physical coordination that it requires is subtle and complex.  I started practicing hula in 2005, and it brings me joy on so many levels - the movements both graceful and strong, the storytelling and musical interpretation, the culture of tradition and aloha.  I've invited Allen Ogi, my "hula uncle" and the leader and choreographer of the Hau'oli Hula Hui who are performing at SF Summer Ukesplosion, to join us to share a lesson in the basics of hula.  I hope that this workshop can give Patrons some insight into the nuance of hula so that we all can share and appreciate the beauty of hula and its reflection of Hawai'i and Hawaiian music.

Intro to Hula Workshop for Patrons

Date: Thurs June 30th, 2022

Time: 2:30-3:30pm Hawaii Time (see time converter)

Patron Tier level:  $20+

The workshop will be recorded, and you can watch the replay at your convenience.

How to Join: Upgrade to the $20+ tier to join. Go to http://patreon.com/join/cynthialin and choose the Intermediate $20 tier (you need to change your tier and not just your pledge level to get access).  You will only be charged for the difference between your current pledge and the upgrade amount.  Join now and you'll get access to this Thursday's Intermediate Live Jam.  If you intend to watch the replay only, you could wait until July 1st to upgrade, so that you get access to all Intermediate posts for a full month.

Hula is for all ages and all genders!  Since you'll be watching on YouTube, you can dance like no one's watching. :)  Please let me know if you have questions below!

I am at $30 tier for voice lessons. How do I register for hula?

This is fantastic, you have been a great learning tool for my son and uke. Will you be having kane hula or just wahine?

If we're at a lower tier level, can we view the lesson later? I would enjoy this. Thanks.

I kind of have the same question Don. *laugh* Since I joined a hālau here and I am the first kane, I can assure you that many of the basic movements are similar...with very slight variations.

This is pretty cool!....I just started hula here about five weeks ago.

you'll already have access to the post when it gets posted! i'll post a day or two before the event

since this is intro, we're focusing on basics, and the basic movements of footwork and arm movements for kane (men) and wahine (women) are the same. i can ask Allen to distinguish the differences - in general, wahine have more hip sway and subtle hand movements (hula hands).

hi celeste, this will stay a $20 tier lesson. you can watch whenever you get a chance to upgrade, or you can upgrade for a month and then return to your chosen tier.

So excited Allen will be joining you to share his vast and deep knowledge of dance, particularly Hawaiian hula. He is a treasure.
