Aloha, uke friends!

For many of you, I think this is going to be your new favorite video/lesson. :)

Watch "Hotel California": https://youtu.be/p5Akn1uMBWQ

If you watched our Summer UkeSplosion earlier this month, you saw Ukulenny rocking this song in his special way.  My arrangement is heavily inspired by his - with a more percussive approach on the outro (although I do want Ukulenny to teach us his amazing solo outro!  maybe as a guest teacher next month!).

Please do click through and leave a comment on the YouTube video page - it makes a big difference in the "algorithm" of how often YouTube will suggest this video to other music fans.  And consider personally sharing this video with someone you know who loves this song.  Word of mouth is the number one way music gets shared.

Learn this arrangement - Our monthly Patron Live Lesson for this arrangement received so much positive feedback.  I'm releasing this lesson to all Patrons a couple days early, and excited to share a lesson that folks are so eager to dig into! :)

All Patrons (pay what you can, $1+) have access to the full hour lesson of this song.  Thank you to my Patron community for supporting this video and lesson!

Tips for playing along:

  • Turn on the CC button for chords and lyrics - click the gear icon and go to Subtitles/CC to adjust the appearance of the text.
  • Playback at .75 speed - click the gear icon and go to Playback speed to slow down the video.  YouTube magically does this without changing the pitch.
  • Use the chapter markers in the Full Lesson to review specific sections that need extra work.  Since this lesson has a lot of parts, you can skip directly to the strum pattern, fingerpicking, hits and mutes, riff, outro, etc).  Scroll along the bottom playback bar to see the chapter markers, or open the description box to see the lesson breakdown timestamps.

And, when you want to level up from this lesson and rock out on the Outro section, check out our Intermediate workshop on The Art of Muting, where I share in-depth practice strategies and exercises for developing your muting skills.  Remember that Patreon charges on the 1st of the month, so if you're not currently at the Intermediate tier, perhaps you want to wait until the 1st.

Watch "The Art of Muting" Workshop (Intermediate tier, $20+): https://www.patreon.com/posts/july-2022-live-69640886

Enjoy, happy practicing, and happy weekend!

It took me 9 months to finally nail the syncopated mutes, or whatever you call them, in the outro, LOL. This is an awesome tutorial. Sorry it got taken down. ps. Anyone struggling with the 2007 Am (like me on a super tenor with the longer neck), try 5457.
