aloha uke friends!  (and welcome to all the new Patrons!)

just posted a new tutorial on How to Chuck.  i'm finishing up the Banana Pancakes tutorial, which uses the chucking strum, and I felt like we needed a dedicated chucking tutorial.  please check it out, and let me know what you think!

chucking is a great way to add percussion and rhythm to your ukulele strumming - this tutorial walks you through 1. how to chuck 2. how to play the chucking strum 3. how to play the chucking island strum.

here are some other chucking tutorials to practice with:

Build Me Up Buttercup: http://bit.ly/2bvw5LL

Sea of Love: http://bit.ly/1oO2VMj

Riptide: http://bit.ly/1OTQCVK

and Banana Pancakes is coming soon!

Thank you SO much for posting this, Cynthia! On the Banana Pancakes live jam, I was the one who asked about chucking and now, thanks to this tutorial, I can finally chuck!!! And trust me, I've been trying unsuccessfully for a while! Your tutorials are the BEST! Thank you!!!

Barbara Miller

Thank you Cynthia! I just became patron. 1. Does the chuck normally hurt your fingers? 2. Are you getting that distinctive sound by chucking with ALL the fingers?

Cynthia Lin

welcome, barbara! 1. you should be doing a regular strum, which shouldn't hurt your fingers. 2. i strum with all my fingers, but you don't need to to achieve the chuck sound. it's more about the timing of the mute after the strum.

Thorvald Duus

Is the upstrum also with all fingers - for me it is difficult to make a good upstrum after mute?

Stuart Bode

That's a great tutorial . I have played guitar for many years and my uke is a baritone , where you also play guitar chords , but no 5 or 6 string . So for me the strumming patterns are what interest me with the uke . The strumming patterns create that very distinctive uke sound . More please !

Just became a patron. Love your teaching, and the chucking tutorial is very helpful. Love everything you do. I hope I will get to meet you in-person some day. Will be taking a private lesson from Lenny soon.
