Aloha, Patrons!

A warm welcome to all the new Patrons!  If you're a new Patron, please introduce yourself in the comments, and check out the New Patrons section below.  Take some time to look around, check out the WelcomeGuide/FAQ, and post any additional questions below.

Harmonics fun: If you're at all curious about harmonics (the bell tones that you can create on certain upper frets of the ukulele), I highly suggest checking out our guest teacher Sammy Turton's Intro to Harmonics workshop ($20+) from Intermediate Jam last month.  I found it to be illuminating, and I think all levels could have fun trying out harmonics.  You can upgrade for a month, check out dozens of Intermediate level and bonus workshops (like the Intro to Hula bonus workshops and Intro to Voice workshop), and change your subscription tier after the month.  Are there other guest teachers that you'd like to see on our Patreon?

Hotel California: For those who missed the news, my video for Hotel California got removed from YouTube for copyright, and is now available for Patrons in this post.  Thanks for everyone's feedback on the new native video feature for Patreon.  I can make a request to have customized closed captioning, which would allow similar functionality to YouTube for chords and lyrics.  And I agree, no ads is nice!  Enjoy, and we will look further into adding more native video on Patreon.

Mindful Rock Strum with Metronome!  If you'd like a breakdown of the Rock Strum (which is an arbitrary name I made up for the strum years ago!), check out our Beginner Live Jam ($10+) lesson from Thursday.  Using the metronome can be intimidating, but it is an important tool for improving your rhythm.  I'm loving the entire mindful ukulele series, here are the topics we've covered so far.  What else can I help break down with this mindful approach?

Special note for new Patrons

If you're new, I invite you to take some time to get to know the platform - there's a lot here, and it may take a while to navigate the many lessons and posts.  The community WelcomeGuide/FAQ post is a good place to start.

To find a specific song or lesson, learn to use the updated Cynthia Lin Song Index.  Thank you to the Community Managers for creating and maintaining this helpful resource.

Please introduce yourself in the comments: I'd love to hear how long you've been playing, what kind of uke you play, if you have a group to play with, what songs you've been working on, or anything else you'd like to share.

If you have questions about Patreon, I encourage you to post your questions in the comments below or to one of our Community groups. Our community has tons of friendly folks who love sharing their uke experience. Join our Patron-only Facebook group (be sure to answer BOTH membership questions) or post your question on the Community tab here on Patreon.

Seasoned Patrons, I always appreciate it when you help me answer any newbie questions in the comments of this or any post.  Thank you! Feel free to post your questions in the comments as well.

I missed 4stringboy's lesson last month but I took a harmonics lesson from him about a year ago. It was full of lightbulb moments and so much fun! He tends to drop f-bombs a lot which I personally found hilarious :-)

Guen Alapag-Spiller

Hi, I'm Guen or "G" and I'm from California. I started my ukulele journey about 5 years ago. Looking forward to keep learning with this community!

Bob Robinson

Bob from Phoenix, AZ. This is Week 12 of my ukulele journey and I'm doing #100DaysOfCynthiaLin by catching up all the past recorded lessons! Loving learning here!

Susan Schenker

Susan from Mattapoisett, MA. I love music. I sing and dance, but have never learned how to play an instrument although I longed to. I began my ukelele journey in October 2022. My first ukelele was a loaner from the library :), but I upgraded to a Cynthia Lin Concert uke. I still have so far to go…but I practice almost every day and really enjoy it. Love the resources available here!

Beverly Tilton

Hello, I’m Bev from Maine. I purchased a Tenor Uke on June 22, 2023, so I’m a total newbie. I really enjoy your tutorials!

Charmaine Reynolds

Hey Cynthia. I've been a member for about a year and a few months. I've just upgraded my membership! Looking forward to some more challenging arrangements. One thing I'm anxious to learn is how to put songs in a key that fits your voice. Thanks.

Hi Cynthia, hello from the Czech Republic, Europe. I bought my first ukulele last spring, I only learned a few songs - a few literally :D. And I already visited the Ukulele Festival last year and fell in love (with playing the ukulele, of course). I now have my third ukulele (can the shopping ever stop?). But I still only know the first few songs. I'm just strumming. It's time to change that and learn to play so I can make others happy - family, friends, colleagues and others people.
