I knew when watched Pretty Little Liars that I recognised Hannah now I realised it was from this episode lol, anyways love your reactions guys

Didi Aylin

Yaaay love your supernatural reactions ! I cannot wait for you to get to the finale and hear your thoughts💖🦋✨️ Also LOVED your Frankenstein video this week :) Knew you would appreciate the beauty in the film and that different way of telling this story (especially the Creature's tale). Have a good day y'all 🪐🪐✨️

Love that final scene so much!

ashley kuate

Dean and Castiel have some really great scenes and talks this season...i just love them

KayJayO

technically the first episode is a halloween episode 😊

KayJayO

Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band

KayJayO

Geddy Lee from Rush

ClaryTehSage

I’ve never actually bobbed for apples before…but this is the episode that got me thinking. And I realized that there would be so much saliva in that water…great way to spread around some sicks eh?

orna

I know they play fast and loose with pronunciations on the show but they butchered samhain so bad I didn't even realize what they were saying, I thought they had invented a folklore legend named Sam Hane until I watched it with subtitles one day. It's sow-an btw, it's the Irish festival from which Halloween originated

Pie

I’m not entirely sure, but I think the reason Castiel hesitated to shake Sam’s hand was that he doesn’t yet know how to human. lol And up until now, we thought Castiel was a unpleasant angel. And then along comes Uriel. What a dick. Dean’s conversation with Castiel at the end is so interesting. An angel with questions and doubts.

Becca

i always enjoy whenever supernatural dives into the topic of free will, obedience and what it means to be a good person. One of the things that, in my opinion, no other show managed to handle quite like supernatural did. Season 4 is just banger after banger epsiode and yeah i am one of those people who get a little dreamy eyed once cas is on the screen so every episode my little angel is in i give 5 stars automatically lol. loved the reaction guys, keep it up <3

Yocchi Mae

I really love that final scene of Castiel and Dean

deanandsamAO3

I agree with Dean and Sam. "Angels are dic#ks."

Sanya Arif

they arent the only ones. congrats on finding out the actual pronounciation

Pie

I believe this pronunciation comes from the gostbusters ghost of halloween

Cyndy

I think the show lore is that angels haven't been among humans for centuries, so it makes sense that Castiel is starting to question things, now that he's spending time with humans. Dean, in particular. Things are a whole lot messier on the ground.

The Horror Bandwagon

Thanks for letting us know and educating us on this! Definitely wanna look more into it!

The Force

As fellow Halloween lovers I'm sure you've seen them but if you haven't you should see Missing Halloween and Missing Halloween: 10 years later by Mike Inel. They're short animations on youtube that are super well known and key rewatches for me every Halloween!

orna

No worries, I'm Irish so we've always referred to that time period as samhain, it was just so far from the pronunciation I didn't even clock it while watching it originally, just more quirks that make the show entertaining

The Horror Bandwagon

I still rememebr the Wendigo episode and me questioning if that was the correct pronunciation lol

Cass&Jason

"Every Day Is Halloween" by Ministry. Good song. Maybe not quite your cup of tea, though. 😉 I (Cass) watch on Patreon, but Jason has to wait for YouTube -- he's going to absolutely loooove Cody's shirt. Stitch is his favorite Disney character. Even has a tattoo of Stitch surfing with Diamond Head in the background. (Yes, we know the story doesn't take place on O'ahu and the good surfing is on the North shore, not the south, but that's where we lived, okay?!?!?) Plus, you know, Freddy. The crossover of his dreams. Or nightmares. Hey, best of both worlds!

The Force

It's one of those reeeeally hard to get right cause it's a basis of a lot of ways people see the world that tend to be hard set and heavily weighted to one side or another so writing it tends to be very easy to fall into "NO LAWS FREEDOM ONLY!" or "FUCK YOU OBEY THEY LAW!" messaging, Supernatural manages to actually ride the line of both having value and neither ever being obviously correct which makes it really solid.

KatieBee

I loveeeee this episode. Obviously for the Halloween vibes but also I feel like this is the episode where I really started to feel the big picture plot with the angels showing themselves to both brothers, Sam using his powers again, it really felt like they pressed on the gas pedal plot wise in this one. The angel stuff is getting goooood I'm so stoked for you guys to see it!

Susie

I'm in full agreement as well lol

Molly Campbell

I usually watch this episode around Halloween. Good episode!

Susie

The main thing that bothers me about Sam's powers isn't what the angels believe. My main concern is that Sam believes that because he is able to use those powers for good, then he will continue to use them. Then we have Dean who has always been afraid of Sam's powers because they come from a demon. It's the brothers and their relationship that is my concern. I am somebody who doesn't believe that Dean should have to tell anybody, even Sam about what happened in hell. I mean, we don't even know what hell is so how can we even understand anything about it and how could Sam? That's just how I feel. As for Castiel, many people love him, but until this episode Castiel was also a d*ck. The only difference is that Uriel was given orders to smite the town.

LeslieW

Not my fav episode but it still has some great stuff in it, especially the character moments and conversations as well as getting more into who the angels are.

Amanda Tardin

omg i love the angels. one of my favs seasons

Ellorna

Yes, I was gonna say that about the handshake. It definitely wasn't a slight or something cause it was Sam. Also, Sam is speaking like that not cause the angels were mean to him, but cause they wanted to wipe a town of 1000+ people off the map instead of doing some legwork lol like Sam and Dean found the place so fast. If they'd just followed those two, they could've stopped it and then Sam would have never had to resort to what he did.

Arend

I love this episode but the mispronunciation of "Samhain" irritates me every time 😅

BatmanFanGirl

I feel like that's the thing in season 4 and season 5. Even if there is an weaker ep there is still something cool that moves the plot forward.

rose mnor

@Pie You are absolutely right; that was the takeaway that Superwiki leaned into: CASTIEL looks at SAM’s hand like he isn’t sure what to do with it. SAM shakes it a little, and CASTIEL finally understands and puts his right hand in SAM’s. /end ...and in the Production script, the stage direction was simply: Castiel regards Sam's outstretched hand. Takes it, amused at the quaint custom. /end ... can also be viewed as Castiel not realizing at first what Sam was doing.

Stacey H

Another great reaction! And yay Halloweeen ep! I felt so bad for Sam. He was all excited to meet Castiel and then it was nothing like he thought it would be. And to have the fact he has demon blood brought up the way it was. And then Dean seeing Sam use his powers again. Dean having flashes of hell again. He beeds to talk aboutvthat at some point. I like that he’s not intimidated by the angels and that he stuck to doing it his and Sam’s way.

Kimberly S. (Rawr)

Oof the razor blades in the candy & the bobbing for apples scenes were brutal. “Is that the witch sack?” 😂 “Going to the big party in the sky” 💀 “Bring back the blood orgies!” “Neck snaps and whores. That’s what happens here.” Y’all had me cracking up this episode. Love a witchy Halloween themed ep. Sam totally fangirling meeting Castile was adorable. Uriel & Castiel showing up to smite the whole town was insane. Dean shouting astronaut always makes me laugh. Loved the Ashley Benson & Jean-Luc Bilodeau cameos! Sam covering their faces in blood to hide from him was smart. Such a fun scene with them fighting the zombies & ghosts. Oof Sam having to use his powers & Dean watching tho. That scene with Sam & Uriel was TENSE! Not dropping the “ask Dean what he remembers from hell.” It was nice seeing another side to Castiel & hearing he has doubts. Always appreciate your breakdown at the end. Love hearing your thoughts & theories 🖤

CattFink!

Every time I watch this one my brain just interprets it as Samuel Haines.

Shannon Turner

oof the way Cas watches Dean in this episode. Uriel and Sam talk around them or to Dean, and Cas just WATCHES Dean. With the conversation at the end, rewatching that scene, you can see Cas like scrutinising Dean, reading him, intrigued by him, learning about him. I really love watching Cas grow to respect Dean. Which I truly think Dean deserves.

Emma Gesse

This episode is deeply ingrained in my brain; imagine watching this at 6. Lol love this episode tho!

Alex Montrose

I love this episode because: "Halloween." But the lore here is a buttload of @#$! unfortunately. First off, it still bothers me, but the way to pronounce Samhain would be closer to "See-wan" or "Shee-han.". Also the image Sam shows Dean in the book is a woodcut by Albrecht Durer which actually depicts the opening of hell in Dante's Inferno. I adore this episode and of course the show is awesome. Just thought you guys might think it was interesting.

the aliases tonight are bob seger (rock singer) and geddy lee, the singer for rush! 🫡

Halloween is descended from the ancient celtic/pagan tradition of Samhain. All the traditions of wearing masks, tricking or treating etc. are derived from Samhain. By the way, in the episode Samhain is pronounced wrong. And they played around with the lore a bit here, it doesn't have anything to do with summoning a demon. Its celebrating the final harvest and hiding/protecting yourself from spirits the other side of the veil as the veil is the thinnest on Samhain. I am Wiccan/Pagan so this is one of my religious holidays. Samhain is most commonly pronounced as "SOW-in" (rhymes with "cow") or "SAW-win". The "m" in the middle is silent because of how the Gaelic languages handle consonant combinations. The exact pronunciation varies slightly depending on the specific language and region: Irish (Gaeilge): Usually pronounced "SOW-in" (like the word sow for a female pig + in). Scottish Gaelic: Often pronounced "SAH-vin" or "SAW-vin", with a slight emphasis on the "v" sound for the mh.

Jolie DuBois

Geddy Lee is the lead singer of the band Rush. And agent Seger is a shoutout to Bob Seger (old time rock and roll, night moves)

AJ

It was Hannah!! Omg thank you it was driving me crazy. I knew I recognized her!

Lisa - Marie

your welcome was driving me crazy too lol

Rhast

Theres so much staring.

IneffableEnby

i have always enjoyed supernatural's depiction of angels, bc like Castiel said angels are warriors of God. While some might like to think of them as soft and kind and merciful, it makes perfect sense that they would be okay with destroying a whole town of people bc God has done the same thing, right? In the name of greater good, of justice. I really just love the way they take or myths and legends and faiths and just say "hey, but what if they weren't what we all thought they were?"

Chantal

It bothers me that they mispronounce Samhain the whole episode. It's pronounced like "sow-en"

Anthony

Love the holiday themed episodes especially one of Halloween! Not Castiel being reluctant to shake Sam’s hand Well well well, Uriel. Dean being confronted by someone who blindly takes orders from his father and when Castiel tells him as such he ends the conversation. I mean Stranger Things came after this so Eleven went full Sam! 😂 This nose bleed also felt a lot more realistic here. Castiel having doubts?! By the way you should watch the movie Doubt with Meryl Streep, Amy Adams and on of my favorites Phillip Seymour Hoffman (r.i.p) Agree about Sam’s look towards Dean was him knowing what he was doing is wrong but he had no other choice. Great acting from Jared and Jensen in that moment ! Now Castiel and Uriel are sort of a mirrored version of early Sam and Dean where one has doubts and one is gung ho to follow orders no matter what.

Kiki Varas

When Urial says “You were told not too.” To sam it kinda reminds me of the Adam and Eve story where they were told not to eat the apple but didn’t listen and ate the apple anyways and “sinned.” I just like that Urial and the other angles seem to be like that bc I feel like it was an interesting way to show represent angles in a story. Also I loved the parallels they have with Sam with his dad and now the angles. Sam used to be the one to not follow orders from his dad and now he is doing the same with the angles. I just ind that interesting that he is also struggling to connect with the angles and he probably feels like the black sheep kinda like he felt with his Dad. I also like that even though Sam likes to pray and believes in that he still questions Urial and questions the angles on weather what they are doing is truly right. I just feel it makes the story more interesting, It makes the story feel more in depth and makes the story not feel so black in white. It makes you question morals and shows that not everything is so black and white and good and bad. There is a grey area sometimes and even angles in this show can have that. So I like how they are able to make angles such interesting characters and not so one dimensional. I love how complex the characters are.

Isaac

The convo between Castiel and Dean at the end was so good 😭. Castiels little smile when Dean made that joke too. :( Love me a Halloween theme as well just to top it off. 🙇

Melanie V Jones

It makes me even sadder than Sam's interaction at the end of this episode is with Uriel instead. Don't get me wrong, I love that Dean got this! And it makes sense for the arc they seem to be setting up. But for Sam, a believer who is forced into no-win situations, to again and again see only self-righteousness and callousness from what are essentially representatives of God, is so heartbreaking. What Castiel says here would have meant so much to him.

~Athena~

Save the Cheerleader, save the world lol

~Athena~

It's actually pronounced "Sau-ween" sorry to be that person, even the show got it wrong lol

pamysue

Early 60s when I was little, the myth was razor blades in your apples. A lot of people would give out apples, homemade popcorn balls, caramel apples... But everywhere we trick or treated, we were related to most people or knew well so my parents never tripped on that. 🍬 Seger as in Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band. They play a TON of his songs in SPN. He is a living legend.🎶🎵 Geddy Lee from the band RUSH, bass guitar and lead vocals. You should really listen to the 2012 album sometime. I hate the Serg only got to trick or treat once.🙁I give candy to all ages at my house. No questions asked.🎃✌️💖

I'm just Joe King

God in the bible is not benevolent. Jesus was, God was wrathful so their attitudes make sense.

Megan

I've always only heard the Scots claim it and they pronounce it "Sow-in," that's how I learned the "correct" way to say it. But at the end of the day, it really doesn't matter. Names and words are pronounced according to how a language system can adapt it, then based on regional dialect. For me, it was "Azazel." The first time I heard the name was on a British show and they pronounced it "Az-uh-zeal" (no clue if that's how Brits pronounce it or just the actor) so when we have "Ah-zay-zel" for Sup, I thought it was two completely unrelated demons. 🤣🤣🤣

E

I love that despite barely knowing Dean, Castiel felt he could be vulnerable with him

Sabrina

frrr 😭

* Dürer If you don’t have the Umlaute on your keyboard you can write „ue“ instead of „ü“ (ö=oe and ä=ae) it’s the same sound and the official alternative spelling (for the german languages at least) ☺️

Alex Montrose

Oh for the love of God. Congrats for being the most pedantic person on the entire internet. I actually as a matter of fact DON'T have the umlaut on my keyboard. And I'm never learning how to type that. I do however have a PhD in Art History and almost 20 years of speaking German under my belt so if you thought you were schooling me, I hope that gave you a massive thrill. Have the day you deserve and never ever speak to me again.
