Omg the gay boys are watching the other gay boys

ja0netholmes

I remember getting whiplash the first time it faded to black and we were still in bed just in a new position. They really went for it.

Syd

I have a 8 AM appointment tomorrow….But I can’t help myself 😂😂😂

Michelle Denny

Ok for reals I am going to make myself wait until tomorrow to watch this one. I need to sleep! But there is nothing like delayed gratification 😂

Amanda Panda

How am I supposed to sleep now, at 2 a.m., with this video un watched? *hits play*

Shea

Since we're on the Hockey trend - Can we get Off Campus after this series?

Averee Kemp

i love that the sex scenes actually add to the story in this series. most series there’s just random sex scenes that add literally nothing to the story the creators just want to boost ratings and add in that kind of stuff. but with this series each scene truly matters to the story. they may be steamy and fun to watch, but they add so much plot and understanding of each character as well. i am so excited to see y’all finish this one out! so many little moments i’m thinking of in my head that i am dying to see y’all see.

Amanda P

Hahaha I couldn't wait for y'all to get to the Vegas scene! The chair drag is so 🫠... And yes the fade to black and then being like SIKE and fading back into them going at it is so good and well done. Shows in the past usually would cut to black for queer sex scenes only, so I was so happy they didn't do that here. This show is just incredible, I'm not one that really cares\pays attention to lighting or atmosphere, I'm pretty easy to please I guess lmao but absolutely everything about this show is just amazing! I can't wait for more and the wait will be PAINFUL. But again thanks for making my birthday even better with the first 2 eps ☺️ Ps. When ilya wins the cup they don't translate what he says but he says "For you Mama" while crying 😭

Shannon Turner

Wonderful read on Ilya in this episode, people can be so harsh on my poor little misunderstood Russian boy. Connor plays it beautifully; in the subtlety of his performance, there is so much pain behind what he portrays as perfect Russian austerity. He's so trapped, he stands there and takes the punches and pretends he doesn't care, numbs himself. It's so sad, and so relatable

Julie D

Another awesome reaction! We're gonna have to get you on some Hudson Williams and Connor Storrie interviews soon so you can see how DELIGHTFUL these actors are! Connor (who plays Ilya) is an absolute baby angel in real life, and Hudson (who plays Shane) is unhinged in the best, most hilarious way possible. You will LOVE these guys. Connor is from Texas, but even native Russian speakers say his Russian is perfect, even though he only had three weeks to learn the language and memorize huge pages of dialogue. He's amazing. As a book reader, I kind of hate the framing of Shane being the injured one and Ilya holding him at arm's length, because it's really almost the opposite in the books. The Vegas scene has so many sad undertones on the show, whereas in the books, there really aren't any negative associations--it's just one of the hottest nights of both of their lives. It is worth noting that Ilya is always in a really shitty mood when he's about to go back to Russia, and Shane is not picking up on this at all--to Shane, family and home are very positive associations that he loves talking about (whenever there's a lull in conversation, Shane immediately starts talking about his parents), whereas these are very sensitive subjects for Ilya, whose family treats him with contempt and whose home would kill him if his sexuality was revealed. So there's just a big communication disconnect here, which is perhaps not surprising, since Shane is autistic and Ilya is Slavic. Really excited for your reactions to the rest of the episodes, as the show gets better and better as it goes on!

Misfit

Buckle up folks, we’re in for a ride. 😉

katyggls

There's so much going on with Ilya, with his family, his father losing his memories, and of course Russia, where it's very dangerous to be queer. If Ilya were ever to be outed, and his North American hockey career were to come to an end (maybe due to homophobia), he'd have to return to Russia and he'd end up in jail or dead. It's not actually technically illegal to be gay in Russia, but any kind of publicly being gay is classed as "LGBTQ Propaganda" and is punishable by jail time. When Shane asks, "Is it safe?", Ilya kind of plays it off, but what he really means is "Sure, it's safe. As long as I pretend to be a completely different person the entire time I'm there". And yes Shane is heartbreaking. He's kind of got this innocent quality that tugs on the heartstrings. That final scene, where you can see him basically realize his feelings for Ilya and how much it pains him was so perfectly acted.

Joshua Shields

The director has had some frank discussions in interviews about how they skip over certain aspects like cleaning prior to night-time activities being shown, in order to keep the s3xin3ss quota up, similar to straight rom-coms not showing how women prepare before straight S3x.

Lucian

I remember Connor telling a story that this show has a lot of supporting actors who are Russian, and between takes they'd come up and try to talk to him and someone would have to awkwardly let them know that he couldn't understand them. Being able to act well enough in a foreign language that you get into misunderstandings like that is ENDLESSLY impressive!

ondraya

You guys never fail to really deliver on your understanding of shows and characters! I've seen so many reactors and viewers of the show that don't see this show as having much substance beyond smut at least in these first 2 episodes, when it's so clear that the romance is present. And the actors talked about it, but not enough people pick up on the dom/sub thing Ilya and Shane have going on either. You guys seem to really get Shane and Ilya already, I love it! Yes Shane definitely made sure to prep, but the director, Jacob Tierney, said that stuff like that was left out intentionally because he didn't think it was necessary lol

Henry Riley

Oh ya’ll are not ready for episode 3 😅

Soph

I can’t stand the way people hate on him these first two episodes. Like he’s not actually an asshole, he just has so much trauma and an incredible weight on his shoulders. Not to mention he’s from Russia where he literally can’t be himself or show weakness. It’s so obvious. But it’s also very clear that he’s already falling for Shane. I don’t understand how people can miss this… Makes me wonder if they’re actually paying any attention lol

Soph

Nah we have enough straight shows... I liked Off Campus but it doesn’t hold a candle to HR. Besides, they’re watching this for Pride Month specifically. They’re normally a horror channel. Watching Off Campus would make no sense.

Justine

I've been wanting to watch this with you guys since December and you're thriving just as much as I thought you would 🥲💕

Soph

Ilya was being more closed off and colder by the end because he had realised he’d caught feelings and was freaking out about it😞

Castiel

Episode 3 is literally one of my favorite episodes of tv ever!! Be ready 😝

Mike Koziela

Omg you're about to reach the episodes of cinematic masterpiece

Kiki Varas

Very glad you guys are reacting to this. This has got to be one of my favorite romance series I’ve seen recently out of all the queer and straight romances. They did a great job with the characters and plot and the slow romance. 💕🙌

J.C Writer

If you like the moaning you definitely have to catch their recordings they did for Quinn! It's like, 90% moaning and smacking and 10% story XD

Jeune!!

The way he disassociates himself during the minister and his father's conversations were really sad to watch too, there's only so much pressure he could handle :(

Tom

Now branching out

elle

im just gonna start commenting my fav Sergio quotes from now on lmaooo

Rebecca Pantene

The first time i watched this I was working, (I work from home, thank god!) I literally had to stop working when their first time having sex came on because I was so mesmerized!! That scene is just so freakin hot and so beautifully done, I was glued to the screen. My productivity might have suffered that day but it was totally worth it! 😆

Girl Ryan

50:50 to future Sergio and Cody, this is what the show’s creator has said about the prep that Shane does before his first time with Ilya: “People are like, When did Shane prep?” Tierney said. “This is not a documentary. You wanna watch them douche? “You want me to include Shane in the bathroom for half an hour with the f***ing enema? That’s not what we’re doing here. We’re skipping that part.” So everything is indeed squeaky floors 😅

Danilo C

Honestly, when i first watched this show I didn't like the first episode that much. I mean, it had a few spots of brilliance here and there, like the photography and the acting. The sex scenes were of course very well done, but I felt a bit like "if i want smut there are websites for that, i don't really need these super long sex scenes in a romance show". Also, I know a lot of people disagree with me on this and think the exact opposite, but I felt like the way they showed Shane and Ilya's personalities and family situation was a bit heavy handed and on-the-nose sometimes. Specially Ilya's father and brother scenes. Their dialogs made them feel like exaggerated caricatures and that turned me off big time on the first episode. Plus, Shane and Ilya's personalities and story didn't captivate me immediately on that first episode. So I almost didn't watch episode 2. But then a few weeks later, when episodes 3 and 4 were already out and people kept talking about the show i decided to give it another chance and i watched episode 2 and I felt there was definitely an improvement on those things and so I watched episode 3 immediately after 2 and oh boy the stark difference on that episode! It was SO much better than 1 and 2. And fortunately the overall quality continues from there and overall the show is really good. I'm really looking forward to your reaction to episode 3.

kuskus

As for your last question, well, it wasn't exactly a surprise visit, Shane had to text Ilya time and location at the very least, they both probably had to recover after the game a bit too. I've heard that there are mentions of preparations in the books. And as Jacob Tierney, creator of the show and a gay man, said in an interview: "This is not a documentary. You wanna watch them douche? You want me to include Shane in the bathroom for half an hour with the fucking enema? That’s not what we’re doing here. We’re skipping that part." I mean, show me a straight sex scene in media which includes queefs or menstruation etc ahah which are all very realistic, but straight scenes never receive similar scrutiny xD

Brookly

i’m kicking myself a little for not waiting until all your reactions were released to this to binge them all! i loved these reactions and you guys are gonna love the rest of this show! fighting to not rewatch the other four today on my own and wait to rewatch them with you guys ❤️❤️

Ana Fox

It's the rollercoaster between hot and emotional that gets me. I LOVE THEM

Giuppy in Arcadia

Loveeeeed your reactions to HR! 😍 It would be amazing to see reactions to ‘The OA’ and SENSE8. 🙌🏻☺️

Life of Morgan

Ahh I just love watching you guys react to this!! It has me all up in my feels. Definitely came to the comments to second that you watch (and hopefully react!) to literally any interview between Connor Storie and Hudson Williams 😂 You can easily see why their chemistry is so magnetic in this show!

Mo

ilya is everything lol that bedroom scene!!

jo

I just found y’all on YT from you posting ep 1, and scurried over here for ep 2 😂. This is not a spoiler! but the author of the book, Rachel, wrote a short bit of these scenes from Ilya’s perspective (in the book we get only Shane’s pov in this part). I think seeing Ilya’s pov is useful for these scenes. https://www.rachelreidwrites.com/journal/heated-rivalry-las-vegas-remix

MavenCree

Svetlana is Ilya's best friend since childhood with occasional benefits. That's why she didn't get mad when she saw the name "Jane" on his phone. They're not dating (or betrothed).

MavenCree

Ilya in the penthouse by the window is PEEK Lestat energy. (Still don't know how he managed to make dragging a chair across the room sexy.) BTW, this scene in the penthouse, was shot on day 1 of filming.

WhitB

Nice pick up on the selfie. In the book, Ilya secretly keeps them so he has a pic of them together

MavenCree

Ilya is still caring, even in that last scene. He was being very Dom-like, but, he notices (as he always does) that Shane wasn't really comfortable yet, so he made him laugh ("Do you want to know how it feels? Holding the cup.") It made Shane laugh and relax more. Ilya is really good at reading people. Unfortunately it seems to have come from the way he was raised. Kids in unsafe homes get really good at reading body language. So in the washroom, he probably was ready to have some fun in there with Shane, but he read that Shane was too emotional in that moment for anything sexual. That's why he said they need to go back to their seats and slow things down.

Sarah Montgomery

FYI, at Sochi Russia had surveillance on all telephone and internet communications. It was dangerous for Ilya to respond to that text. They would have also been monitoring Ilya as a high profile Russian athlete playing in the U.S., which is why he said "Not here" and when Shane didn't get the message he pushed him away so rudely. If they had stood around talking there might have been questions about why he was so friendly with his rival. Also, Rachel wrote the "Las Vegas Remix" which give the Las Vegas scene from Ilya's perspective and talks about what he was thinking when Shane approached him at the Olympics.

MavenCree

Communication between these two is very difficult. Shane is autistic. He does social mirroring. He doesn't actually know how he's supposed to behave in different situations so he copies what he thinks is supposed to happen. When something unexpected happens, he has to reset. Ilya on the other hand, specifically has to translate everything in his head before he says it or understands it. Sometimes he has a long pause after a question. He's trying to translate and it's not taking. (Like in the press conference last episode, with that long-ass stupid question he was asked, where Shane stepped in to help.) There's also cultural differences... Ilya has specifically been raised not to talk. It's what's expected of him. Strong, stoic and silent. Ilya didn't ghost Shane for 6 months because of anything that Shane did. He ghosted him because he himself realized that he was catching feelings for Shane and so was punishing himself. That's why the sex at the end was so voyeuristic. He was trying to see if he could still have a physical thing with Shane without the emotions coming in. It didn't work, which is why Ilya was barely looking at Shane at the end, when normally he can't keep his eyes off of him. He's disappointed in himself.

The Horror Bandwagon

Damnn....everyone came prepared with that quote lol Totally makes sense and I was mostly just teasing since it a common practice.

The Horror Bandwagon

Damnnn okay, I was just teasing lol everyone came prepared with that quote. I personally dont think I was scrutinizing it and trust me I have my own thoughts about the abundance of straight sex- view our thoughts of it in true blood😂 . I'm very much appreciating every sex scene here and the art of it as you can see by our reactions. I honestly wouldn't mind seeing some prep scenes as it's just a normal part of that side of life but as the director says it's not what they're doing and I respect that! I'm sure theres other content that do that haha Personally I think queefing during sex is different from prepping FOR sex. I actually have seen a few some scenes where menstruation is brought up. I think it was Saltburn. But again mostly was teasing about that lol

The Horror Bandwagon

Can't even remember that stuff I said so please let me know what they are!!

The Horror Bandwagon

Yessss! Love to hear it!! 3 and 4 coming very soon! (Tears already in episode 3)

Tami

Really enjoying your reactions to this series! I'm glad that you were both able to see past the surface level with Ilya and understand what he's likely thinking and feeling. So many reactors miss so much of the subtext with his character, but if you watch his face, his expressions tell you what's happening below the surface. Both actors are so good at telling an entire story with their eyes. And you understood that both Shane and Ilya, at different points, were pulling back. I like reactors like you who can see what Shane types at the end and have their hearts break for him, yet still not hate Ilya for it, because they can see how he's struggling. Looking forward to rewatching the rest of the season with you!

KnightOwl1978

Wow I have seen a couple of reaction videos because I am obsessed with this show! and you guys are the best and the only one I expect to continue following for other reactions for other shows!! Might even get into more horror stuff🤣

Tami

I can't remember if it was in this reaction or the reaction to episode 1 that you mentioned that Ilya is giving Lestat energy, but if you look up pics of Connor Storrie from a few years ago when he had long hair, he REALLY has a Lestat vibe.

Tami

Sofia, yes to everything you said! All you have to do is look at their eyes and their facial expressions and it's clear that they've both already fallen for each other. I agree, I'm always shocked at the number of reactors who don't see it.

sam

shane seems the type to do his research AND he already was experimenting with a dildo, so I strongly believe he prepped.

As a Canadian I am just so happy that this series has reached the audience it has. Im also super proud my tax dollars went towards financing this show

ned flinn

Wonderful reactions guys! Like you said 'strap in'--it only gets better from here-- ep. 3-6 are truly amazing --bring your tissues. I'm very much looking forward to your viewing and insights. Much love from an old queer man. I very much appreciate your perspectives as young queer men. Thanks so much and Happy Pride!

DramaQueen Malèna

I saw the reaction to episode 1 on YouTube and immediately came here. I support everyone who gets Ilya. I don't understand those who hate him in the first episodes.

DramaQueen Malèna

The Vegas Scene from Ilya's perspective, no spoilers June 2014—Las Vegas Ilya only had three minutes to pull himself together. Two minutes and fifty seconds, actually. He was gripping the counter in a bathroom backstage at the NHL Awards, trying to force down the panic that had taken hold of him. It had been simmering all day, finally boiling over when he’d spotted Shane Hollander backstage. ××× Ilya hadn’t seen Hollander off the ice since the Olympics. Hadn’t spoken to him since then. He’d thought about him every day. He’d thought about the way Hollander had found him in the stands of the Sweden vs. Finland game in Sochi, and had asked if he was all right. He’d thought about how strong the urge had been for Ilya to wrap Hollander in his arms and just hold him. Pull him against his chest so Ilya could bury his face in his short, glossy hair and breathe him in. It had been so fucking scary, that urge. The way Ilya’s heart had skipped when he’d spotted Hollander approaching him, and the way he’d wanted to tell him everything. Hollander was waiting for him, now. Not because he wanted to see him, but because they were presenting an award together. Most Sportsmanlike, which, Ilya had to admit, was funny. He’d told himself all day that it would be fine, seeing Hollander again. But as soon as he’d laid eyes on him, Ilya had felt an overwhelming need to hide. He’d dashed away, hopefully without Hollander seeing him ××× He shouldn’t have invited Hollander to his room. They’d managed to avoid each other for months and Ilya could have simply let that continue. Forever. Because that was what made sense. Shane Hollander sprawled out on Ilya’s bed, offering himself as a fucking prize, did not make sense. The way Ilya was more tempted to gather Hollander in his arms and hold him all night than fuck him didn’t make sense. The way Ilya knew that if he kissed him he’d never stop didn’t make sense. ××× Hollander looked wrecked, all flushed and glistening and messy. He smiled at Ilya and said, “How about that vodka?” Ilya laughed, and his heart swelled. “Yes. Give me a minute.” He didn’t want to leave the bed, because when he did, this would be over. Hollander wouldn’t be smiling at him, gorgeous and spent. He’d get dressed, he’d leave. Ilya would be alone. He let himself look at Hollander, trying to memorize every detail of that moment. He wanted to kiss him. He wanted to roll on top of him and kiss him until they both fell asleep. He wanted to kiss him in the morning, and all day tomorrow. ××× “But…do you like going there?” Hollander may as well have stabbed Ilya in the gut. Ilya could practically feel the blade twisting, tearing up his insides. He hoped Hollander didn’t notice his shaking fingers as he brought the cigarette back to his lips. In that moment, Ilya wanted to tell Hollander everything. Instead, he closed his eyes and said, “I should sleep.” ××× “Oh.” Hollander sounded disappointed. Or maybe just embarrassed. “Yeah. I should…I need to get going, anyway.” Ilya kept his eyes closed so he wouldn’t need to watch him leave. “Yes.” He heard Hollander moving around the hotel room, first in the bedroom, then in the main room, gathering his clothes. Ilya stayed on the bed. “See you,” Hollander said from the other room. Ilya dropped his cigarette butt into Hollander’s not-empty vodka glass, watching the ash turn something pure and perfect into something dark and ugly. “Goodbye, Hollander.”

Chris

I'm sure others have said something similar, but this is a romance. Don't need to show every single little thing. Besides, it's Shane. I'm pretty sure Shane in prepared for almost everything in his life. I'm betting that he found a way to get ready before Ilya showed up or before he got to Ilya's penthouse. It's Shane - he who folds his clothes before getting nasty. :o) I love how you seem to have gotten to where I am now on the bathroom scene. I was VERY conflicted the first couple times. Now I think it's an amazing scene, even if Ilya really was being an actual asshole at first. Like someone else said, Ilya is what they would call a bad boy but a good man. At the beginning of that scene, she said he was leaning a little too hard on the bad boy part of himself and needed to come back to the good man side quickly. He did. Now I think that kiss at the end is right up there and challenging for being the best one in the show. The fact that you realize that Ilya isn't the pure asshole some seem to think he is -even as late as episode 4 - is awesome. Other than the beginning of the bathroom scene, I never thought he was actually an ass. People like to point to how he was at the end of #1 and then in Russia at the figure skating. In both of them,Shane is actually the one who keeps pushing and pushing until Ilya has to get more forceful. I mean, if you look at it, Shane is actually the one who wins the most after they're drafted, then he doesn't catch what that look meant when Ilya makes it clear that going back home isn't nice. Then in Russia, he's obviously not in a good place mentally, but he's also trying to protect them both. He can't say anything specific that could show they are anything more than just two hockey players. He made it perfectly clear, many times, that now is NOT the time to talk. Does he have issues with communication? Obviously. He's cocky, but not really an ass. We're told he is, but he doesn't really show it that often. I think it's because people feel so much for Shane, since he's more obvious in showing his feelings, in some ways. I truly can't wait to see what you think about the rest of the show. If you are this invested already, that means the rest will be amazing since the show obviously only gets better with each episode.

Liz Nichols

Everyone's reaction to "we didn't even kiss" is golden. You're already in love, just admit it to yourselves!

Lisa Ehl

OMG, I cannot wait for you to upload more RH reactions. The show made me re-evaluate parts of my own identity... I can't get enough of it. I originally joined you guys for the SPN reactions but I am so happy you're doing Heated Rivalry.

E

Love reheating this rivalry with you guys. Can’t wait for the next episodes. You guys gonna go a damn journey with this show 🍿🥰

Adavan

So...about the prepping...JK! I think you heard enough responses to that teasing question. 😄You should know the full story, though, because out of context, that quote from Jacob Tierney sounds a little unnecessarily angry. It was said in a teasing tone, but it WAS a slightly frustrated response because there were some people accusing the show of not being "gay enough". Some actor from another queer HBO show accused the show of being fake and not "representing true gay men", claiming the sex scenes weren't realistic, and weren't "how we have sex.". So, Jacob's response was a bit of a reaction to those kinds of comments; it was him being like, no sh!t Sherlock - it's a romance, we don't need to show every step of the process. Lol! Jacob Tierney is actually a really warm, funny, and intelligent guy. 😊 Just an FYI...while the act of homosexual sex technically isn't illegal in Russia, admitting to it, talking about it, or celebrating it in anyway is very illegal. They consider it "terrorist" propaganda, trying to indoctrinate people. 😒 So, if it was revealed Ilya was Bi, he would be breaking that law just by being out and famous. And if he lost his spot in the MLH (NHL in the books) because of a homophobic reaction from the league and/or fans, it would be INCREDIBLY dangerous for him to then be forced to return to Russia. And yes, as was mentioned, the Russian government made it a very badly kept secret that they were surveilling their athletes at the Sochi Olympics, so when Ilya is shooing Shane away, he is doing it to keep them both safe. And he does tell him in less rude ways a couple of times, but Shane just doesn't pick up on it. It's really terrible for him to have ghosted Shane for 6 months, but he's so desperate to try and deny what he's feeling. If you look at his face at the end of their first time together, when he asks Shane if it was worth the wait, and then Shane kisses his forehead, you can see the terror there, because he knows he's falling hard. The thing that's obvious in the book, but less so here is that part of the reason Shane is mad at Ilya about the 6 months of ghosting, is BECAUSE it bothers him so much. He doesn't want it to bother him. In the book, he actually thinks to himself that Ilya is doing what's smart, stopping their thing before it gets "worse". 😞 Anyway, incredible episode, incredible reaction by both of you!! ❤️

Luke Eberhart

I've watched dozens and dozens of reaction videos to this show and yours is already among the best. Can't wait to watch you react to the rest of the episodes. This show has impacted me unlike any other show ever has. I can't get enough of it.

kathryn evenson

Can’t wait for you to watch the rest. Love your reactions

Jbug

I personally enjoy the reactions to this show something different for the channel. very amusing reactions from you both

Leigh Stigler

I can't express enough how much I'm enjoying your reaction so far to HR. Can't wait to continue this journey with you girls!😉

Claudia Posch

I really like your reactions and I cannot wait to watch the other ones with your commentary!! What I haven't seen in the comments here (might have been pointed out in another video though) is a reaction to you wondering how close these boys are irl. So I feel the need to fill you in haha You really really have to watch their interviews, you will notice immediately how real they are and how down to earth. They are the bestest of friends, call each other soulmates, emotional support person in life,... They got a matching tattoo together after only a few months and try to see each other as much as they can (and not as fanservice, their friendship is for them) during this crazy storm they are in together (which is probably too little because they are booked and busy but they really do make time if they can and it is always a magical storm when they are out somewhere together in public) Both have said from the get go that they will put in as much effort and emotion and will not hold back during the intimacy scenes (they would do anything except actually do it of course) and it shows. They were able to give us THIS kind of magic after meeting only a few weeks prior to shooting and falling in love with each other as a person right away... Just IMAGINE how season 2 will look after they got to know each other in private a lot better now and are as close as you can get without actually being a couple. They will absolutely obliterate us all in season 2 as boyfriends Shane and Ilya and I cannot wait. After seeing them absolutely commit to the roles, its actually really hard to watch any other romance and not compare. Unmatched chemistry, never seen anything like this before, Jacob Tierney hit the casting jackpot here.

waitwait wait JJ Figure skating ... is that a Yuri on Ice reference or am i stupid

Why was the word "rimming" censored?

I don't know if anyone has commented this already. But The Las Vegas scene was filmed on the first day of filming!

I saw a take from someone that said that Ilya not answering Shane's text after the snowstorm game cancellation is what set them back for the two years at the beginning of this episode. It freaked Shane out that he had misread and Ilya wasn't interested anymore. So it took all of this explicit pursuing from Ilya to get him back on track.
