Oh...So you really wanna make us CRY CRY! Wow, such a bold shift and it was all worth it. We got completely taken away with episode that hit close to home for both of us.

A high-stakes career collides with love when a chance meeting ignites a spark.

VIEWER DISCRETION IS ADVISED! Truly this is TV-MA so we are entering an adult zone here.

We have not seen the last two episodes so PLEASE no spoilers! We know you want to mention more and we can't wait to discuss it but we really do not want to get spoiled by something mentioned, referenced or even hinted at!

Yessss. Been waiting for this 🥰🥰

eamcims

I just need you to know I hadn’t seen a single clip from this show until I watched your reactions from episodes 1 and 2 and I had to go and watch the rest of it in one sitting 💀

Salomé

Can't wait to watch this when I'm upright. Now, one more nap before I get up for the day.

Riane Kim

Omg yay! Can't wait to tune into this one and Ep 4 later!

SW Reactions

and I’m hitting the last chapter of the second book since the upload… not slightly obsessed at all…👀

Castiel

Oooo Ive been waiting all day 🌈🌈

Riane Kim

Also, I hope this is okay to say because it's not really a spoiler or a hint but so much as a suggestion because you haven't watched ep 5 and 6: at the end of ep 6, I really highly recommend watching the credits all the way through :) If not okay, I am happy to delete!

Anni

Your reactions are so sweet!! But please equip yourself with tissues for the last two episodes .😉Because every episode i thought i don't think i am able to care even more about all these characters. Boy, was i wrong!!!😂

lelmDR.WHO

So I watched this show because I watched your first episode on Patreon (and had always been meaning to watch it) and I blame y'all because I am obsessed! I love it so much and it's so perfect! and like I mean I might have a problem. I've seen it like 5 times just in this one week, even called out of work one day because I had stayed up way too late finishing it the first time, and have seen a bunch of reactions since. BUT! have been so waiting to see y'all's full length reactions! Because I'm ready to watch it again and y'all are so lovely and funny and I don't want to do any spoilers, but I think y'all will cry at the same things I did. Anyways this is all your fault! I didn't have time for a new obsession, but this has pushed all else aside

boleynns

Yeah regarding your post-ep convo about the pressure/expectation in sport that non-straight players are under, but especially in hockey: even to this day, no NHL player (active or retired) has ever publicly come out. Hopefully that changes some day, but tbh it would take a unicorn case imo.

VV

Aww, you are officially a Loon now... WELCOME TO THE CLUB! That’s the fandom name if you weren't already aware. This is the only show that I have EVER watched so many times that I have lost count and haven't gotten bored! Also, if you aren't already aware, the fandom has named re-watches "RE-HEATS" instead. 😊

Soph

I’M SAT🫰🏼 also can’t wait for your reaction ep 5&6, it’s peak🙌🏳️‍🌈

Trekkie74205

Every episode was written and directed by the show creator, Jacob Tierny.

Misfit

Unpopular opinion: Skip is my favorite. I love their sweet little romance. I’m so glad you two decided to watch this. The reason I belong to your Patreon is because, well I love horror movies, but also because you are both fun and insightful with your analysis. You never disappoint.

Sarah Montgomery

The books are the Game Changers series by Rachael Reid. Scott and Kip's story is book 1. Heated Rivalry is actually book 2.

draeonic 🪼

today I read a post that said "I loved heated rivalry but I fast-forwarded through the sex scenes," and I gotta say... gurl.

katyggls

I'm glad you guys liked this episode. It gets a lot of hate in the fandom, but I think people don't get that it's meant to be a contrast to the other story. François Arnoud, who plays Scott, actually said that his character is basically a cautionary tale (the exact words Cody used) for Shane and Ilya. He's them 10 or 15 years down the road. Lonely, repressed, and desperate to be loved and free, but having built so many walls around himself to keep his secret that it's now almost unimaginable to actually get out of them. Rachel Reid wrote the books this show was based on, but Jacob Tierney wrote the screenplay for every episode. He's gay, so I definitely feel he was able to infuse the story with a lot of genuine experience from the community and for queer men specifically.

Jontor11

What a wonderful reaction guys! Yes, this episode came totally left field in, and it's such a great romantic contrast to Shane and Ilya's hookups.

bordeauxroses

love the hannibal & will sweatshirts

Rachel

Love the reaction but I also LOVE your Hannibal shirts ❤️❤️❤️

Jeff Beadle

Okay, I feel horrible for even asking, but I've loved all of your reactions to this series so far... when will you drop eps 5 & 6???

Karen_Tries

Protect ‘SKip’ at all costs! 😭

un.filth.er.ed

my brother warned me about this storyline T_T

Olivia

scott and kip my boys!!!!!! absolutely love their story with all of my heart and i am so glad you guys did too ❤️❤️

Julian

next monday probably

Simone

SKIP MY MOST BELOVED !!!! I am sorry (no I am not), but I get giddy at this episode every time and while I kinda have taken some distance from the show due to the fandom being hell, I genuinely just adore Scott and Kip so very much.

Henry Riley

My favourite episode 🥹♥️

keira

my least favorite episode of the bunch unfortunately. the episode is fine and i appreciate its relevance to the main plot but i just don’t find the concept of “two nice sweet normal people who meet and like each other instantly and then start a normal relationship” compelling. i also don’t like the coffeeshop (or smoothie shop) setting. when i first watched this episode i found myself predicting every single plot beat before it happened so i felt a bit underwhelmed. plus, i think francois and robbie have significantly less romantic chemistry than hudson and connor. just nothing made skip’s story pop for me. and i think it’s really funny that jacob tierney agrees with me. no hate to everyone who loves this ep lol

Amanda P

Sergio's reaction to Scott picking up Kip was hilarious haha. So many straight guys that have reacted to the show are always like "mannnnn i wanna be picked up like that" and that always makes me laugh

VV

So as you know this series is based on the book Heated Rivalry by Rachel Reid... which is actually a part of a 6 book series called the Game Changers series. Book 1: Game Changers is about Scott and Kip (ep 3 is based on this so that is why it felt like a "different chapter") Book 2: Heated Rivalry is obviously Shane and Ilya's story Book 3: Tough Guy is Ryan (mentioned in ep 4 during the "tuna melt" scene) and Fabian's story Book 4: Common Goal is Eric and Kyle's story (you were introduced to Kyle in this episode ... "Thank You Kyle" 😊) Book 5: Role Model is Troy and Harris's story (honestly my favorite book) ... we will meet them next season Book 6: The Long Game is Shane and Ilya's 2nd book and what season 2 and 3 will be based off of Book 7: Unrivaled (not out until next year) is Shane and Ilya's 3rd book and hopefully what a 4th season will be about.

Meryl Lim

New Patreon member here. Loved your post episode discussion. You guy are great!

Jennifer

This is my favorite episode and also I love your shirts

james

OMG!! Been checking yesterday and today hoping you guys uploaded. Got this lovely treat now that work is done for the day!!! Yay!

Lavender Violet

You are not alone. I love Francois and this episode is good as a stand alone, but I'll be honest when I "reheat" I always skip (no pun intended) this episode. I only ever rewatch it when I watch reactions. No hate- I just love Ilya and Shane so much more. Especially Ilya. He is my favorite.

Lavender Violet

That's certainly a choice. Not a choice that I would ever make, but a choice nonetheless.... 🙄🤷‍♀️

-N-

Oh, when I saw you tear up at episode 2, I knew this episode would wreck you. Please make sure you stock up on tissues because it only gets more intense from here.

TD Keh (signed the NDA)

This episode is so heartbreaking because they both clearly love each other, but the timing is just not aligned properly. It's understandable why Scott can't come out yet, and it's understandable why Kip is struggling with essentially being forced back into the closet. The first time I watched, I made the mistake of looking down at my phone during the convo between Kip and Elena where he insists he's "never been happier" so the talk Elena had Scott on the dancefloor caught me by surprise. When I rewatched, I noticed how sad Kip's eyes are during "never been happier". This ep hurts but it hurts so good 😭

Adavan

One of us! One of us! 😄 It is an incredible show. I watched the finale when it aired on December 26, 2025. I'm still here fully in my obsession, so I get it. I've reheated so many times, it's impossible to count. I'm so thrilled that one of my favourite reaction channel is watching it now!! 😊

Minna

Hahaha MOOD. Something about this show/universe is so addictive! I called in sick so I could finish reading the books lmao

Adavan

I'm completely with you. I also, enjoyed the episode when I first watched it, but I didn't find it overly compelling. Don't get me wrong, I do love Scott and Kip as characters, and I appreciate the struggle they go through. I also love Francois Arnaud and Robby G.K. But I don't feel like they have that same CRAZY chemistry Shane and Ilya have, and I'm just not a big fan of "love at first sight", smoothie/coffee shop cutesy romance. I like a bit more angst, I guess. But I also appreciate the narrative importance of this episode and the different perspective we get from Scott and Kip. I was never against the episode, but I skip it on most reheats. 🤷‍♀️

Melanie V Jones

I liked this a lot more on rewatch. I was frustrated by the cliches in the first half and how little we actually got to see of Kip outside his love for Scott--what is he studying? Did he also lose his mom? etc. They were able to give us so much Ilya, Shane, and now Scott in just a single episode, so it's obviously possible. That said! Coming in not expecting the high of the previous two episodes here and revisiting it, I love the second part of this episode with how they depicted the no-win scenario of it all. Francois acted his lil heart out too </3

Sandra

I have watched so many reactions and you guys are my absolute favs. I watched like five minutes on YT the other day before heading over here. I feel like I'm watching with my friends and you're both so precious! You pick up on the subtle things so many people miss and that gives you a much richer experience. I love how you love the love and thoroughly appreciate all these beautiful men and their beautiful bums too! Super excited to watch the rest with you! Keep tissues handy and buckle up!

Mike Koziela

The women in this show are true queens.

Ana Fox

I love how seamless the transition to Scott's story felt. Loved your reaction!

Jbug

this episode hits different, i wasnt prepared for it. this show has taken me by surprise, im obsessed ! ❤️

Joshua Shields

Of the first 4 eps, ep 3 is my favourite. also, that kitchen scene with the casually being picked up and the ask for consent for fornicating - felt like the show was instantly impregnating an entire gay/bi/pan audience.

MavenCree

Don't assume about the tall boys. Scott is verse. :D

MavenCree

Ironically the Intimacy Coordinator for this show is named Chala Hunter and she's friggin' awesome. Probably the most famous IC in the world right now.

MavenCree

31:10 "New York, I love New York" Actually It's Hamilton Ontario. And the red brick building next to the blue glass building that is behind Kip, is my office building. :-D The White Trucks (movie and tv supplies) showed up today. Usually they come a few weeks before a show films just to get the logistics down. And since Season 2 starts filming in just over a month.... Fingers crossed. (Like 80% of this show's location shots were filmed in Hamilton and the surrounding areas.)

Stephanie

i am SO excited to watch y'all finish this show!!

Michele

It is so frustrating when people just seem to refuse to not spoil things! And they'll often argue that they didn't! ugh

Coco W

Loved the reaction. And soo appreciated you guys both sharing your own experiences. Great episode.

Chris

First, you need to go back and watch them when they first start to get down through to where Kip's shirt is taken off. You missed a little bit that I think you need to see. I mean, it's not quite as good as Scott picking Kip up, but it's good. We need this episode to give us a break from the other two who just can't get it together. Yes, they are at different points in their lives, but that's the point of this episode. It's to contrast with the other two. That, and maybe just to give us a cute, silly, little stereotypical rom-com for 25 minutes. It's just another example of the perfect pacing this series has. It's apparently the least favorite, by a long shot, of everyone who's watched the show, but I think it's needed in so many ways. This is also the point where my tears started to creep up on me. I absolutely love your reactions so far. I'm sure they will get even better as the show gets even better. Off to watch #4 right this second. Can NOT wait for you to see the last 2. You will be hard pressed to find 2 hours of anything that is better.

Max

Vaugnny really straightsplained homophobia to 2 gay guys without even knowing 😂

Max

I dont think thats unpopular 😂😂😂

Justine

skippp 😭💕

Max

Ikr!! All of them are so supportive

Michelle West

Well Luke Prokop is openly gay and has a contract with the NHL. He was drafted before he came out (would he had been drafted if it was known he was gay?) and has never ever played a NFL game. He currently plays for the AHL, that may be because he is not quite good enough for the NHL currently, however I find it suspicious that the only gay player in the league has not actually played for the league.

boleynns

As I said, active/retired NHL player - Luke got drafted (in the 3rd round, a.k.a. only like 15% of players drafted there ever make it to the NHL) but has never played a game, nor will he. I disagree with you that him being out is preventing him from being called up* — his most recent contract actually had him playing games with the ECHL (another level below the AHL) because he isn’t even a consistent AHL roster level player. Obviously it’s not nothing that he came out and has taken on that “first” in the AHL, and I’m not taking that away from him at all — I hope it does have a positive impact on other players at that level, and the game as a whole! — but it is a different situation than an actual NHL player coming out. But one step at a time, and like I said hopefully it does help those who also aren’t interested in coming out publicly feel more comfortable! (*editing to add: I did check his contract situation again, and as no NHL team gave him a contract he was signed directly by the AHL team to that two-way contract with their feeder team in the ECHL—a.k.a. he was not even eligible to play in the NHL at that point.)

Keen

I think the predictability is part of Tierney’s sneaky strategy to queer the Romance Genre. Like ep3 was saying to all the people who were frustrated or thrown off by the first two episodes, who criticized Shane and Ilya for being too quick into “casual” sex and both immature, emotionally stunted communicators and their relationship being toxic…well here ya go: here're the poster boys for mature, communicative, emotionally vulnerable adults who follow the perfect traditional Romance genre narrative, with all the built in tropes right where we’ve been socialized to expect them and IT STILL FAILS. Systemic and internalized homophobia fk them up in the end despite them conforming to the cishet “rules” for how Romance should look. So maybe we need to intentionally Queer the genre and show how a different way of telling these Romance stories actually works and allows us the happy outcomes we deserve, without forcing all LGBTQ stories to follow the usual cishet narrative fantasies we have been fooled into thinking are the ideal. That both couples stay together is despite the genre/socialized Romance narratives, not because of them. Anyway, that’s my take on why dropping Skip out of book order and right into the middle of Hollanov was the necessary adaptation to make the show truly Queer at its core message beyond the plot of the season.

Keen

I’ve seen a LOT of comments like that and they are ignorant af. I’m like “sorry that all the cishet sex scenes you see are mostly either exploitive/violent or tossed in as merely eye candy for viewers..” Literally every frame of every intimacy scene (even just the kissing) in HR serves a specific purpose that advances character and plot. Nothing is superfluous. People who ignore or fast-forward through the intimacy do not understand the series. PERIODT.

Keen

Re the final locker room scene and the socks. He’s completely checked out mentally, not focused on the game, has to be told to get dressed for the Gold Medal match. Even though the NHL uniform code means he’s always had to wear his official team socks over the lucky socks, showing him covering them up is intentionally about hockey erasing his gay identity and especially about that gay identity having to be hidden in Russia. The final frames intentionally show him neglecting his usual obsessive superstitions in key games by fckng up the socks and the camera emphasizes the sock marked R going on his left foot. The routines he used to repeat until he perfected them fell by the wayside in the face of his heartbreak,

Agent Squirrels

It gets hate from straight women who aren't interested in what its actually like to be in this situation, beyond the characters they're fixated on. Most normal people who watched this ep absolutely adore it.

lunasera

Honestly I didn't get the hype about this show until this episode. I was so immediately invested in these two and the show was solid from here.

Kiana B.

it is very unpopular if you're in fandom spaces, mainly twitter unfortunately lol.

Kiana B.

i'm so glad i escaped this hellish fandom, it has ruined the show for me ngl. 😭

lelmDR.WHO

thank you all for the lovely welcome!! I'm starting the books now XD

Dani Matthews

Kip and Scott have their own book called Game Changer. It's the first in the series I believe.

Janie Friedman

I mean, it's my least favorite episode (which in no way means I hate it, to be clear) but that's because I'm looking at it from a different perspective. Scott and Kip are so important to this world and are wonderful characters who are going through some hard shit. But. I'm a long-time romance reader and this is the most common trope in the genre and it's (the trope, not the characters) just...boring to me. That's all. Still a fabulous episode and better than 90% of other current shows. And Elena rocks! Perspective from an old Pan lady who has read thousands of romance novels.

IgoZoom

I feel the exact same! This episode (and this relationship) HOOKED me hard!

Jules R

I loved rewatching this episode with you, it's so interesting to hear that this story really resonates with your stories, thanks for sharing this with us! Made me more emotional seeing it thru your eyes. Oh and I also am into tall people, as someone who is short I tend to gravitate to the taller ones. I have just recently been watching you guys and was surprised with how much of a height difference there is between you two, it's so adorable!

LL

I am so doomed. I need to sleep but I can’t stop watching your glorious reactions. Ah, well!

VV

Enjoy! Are you reading all 6 books? If so, would love to hear which one ended up being your favorite! So many fans have different ones, so I am always interested.

love4Cook

I am absolutely loving your reactions to this show. I LOVE this episode so much and the ending just broke my heart and made me angry that it’s 2026 and we’re still living in a world where people don’t feel safe being their true selves and loving who they love. ☹️ I love Scott & Kip together and I love Kip’s friends and his dad.

Maria Stoycheva

just subscribed because I saw your reaction to ep.2 and I couldn't just leave our boys so unhappy... so I came here to watch episode 4 and be completely wrecked :D :D :D I hope you will be posting the rest SOON because we need it ^_^

Maria Stoycheva

just to be crude right back: reactors have a hard time with these reactions, pun intended. I personally made a hookup date out of episode 1, after I first saw it. I invited my FWB over and was like "I'm gonna show you this show and by mid 1st episode I will be on top of you" and we had a lot of fun. and then I proceeded to watch the show 100 more times without that extra 'stimulation'. so it's the perfect show for any occasion lol

Alile

100% agree! This is my favorite HR episode. I didn’t really get into the show after the first 2 episodes, and I was bummed because everyone was SO obsessed and I’d been so excited to watch. But I was hooked within the first 3 minutes of this episode, their chemistry was amazing and it was palpable. 😍

Jenny

And Matt Gordon portraying an amazing father again. Last saw him in Rookie Blue as Officer Oliver Shaw. Loved him!

Blue Dragonfly

Hunter put a right-foot sock on his left foot. But it fits very well so maybe the picture was mirrored.

Amy Hunter

Re: auditions for the best ass. I saw an interview with the show creator and he said the actor who plays Kip was the last one to take his clothes off on set and when he did they were all shocked at how insane his body was. Lol. So, no. They didn’t get to audition the actual bodies.

Cody Driver

One of the best episode! This is truly a life changing show for me! Its respesentation on a life ive lived plus a life I want to live. Its so true to the gay experience, for me, and ive loved yalls watch along reactions!

Primrose 🌙

Ugh, this episode really resonated with me. I relate to Scott in so many ways and recently had a somewhat similar situation and it absolutely wrecked me. My friends know but my family doesn’t so I always feel like I just can’t allow myself to truly be free and give it a chance because it wouldn’t be fair if things got serious 😮‍💨 I’m quickly falling in love with this series, it’s so good!

ParkMinJeon

I’m sure you already know, but Heated Rivalry is Ilya and Shanes story. That’s why we get more of them than Scott and Kip. Scott and Kip’s story/book is called Game Changers.

Em Mcbride

Hehehe when Cody said "they love a backshot light" instead of a "backlit shot" .... true
