When we tell you that this movie is a whiplash! This one is the epitome of wild. So brace yourselves. However it was highly entertaining and Reese Witherspoon really delivers an iconic performance that we have never seen her do! Plus Keifer Sutherland really brought his A game with this, his role…welp you’ll see!

With that being said VIEWER DISCRETION IS ADVISED. The Movie is unrated and trigger warnings for a lot of things: graphic sexual violence, Derogatory language, child abuse, drug use, and suicide.

"I get claustrophobic [etc]" has been firmly lodged in my brain since I first saw this

Zombies_Are_Real

I used to watch this all the time back in the day, it was like on HBO or something. Between movies like this and Fear, I like to think about a timeline where we got Dark Reese Witherspoon. It would have been great! People would talk about her romcoms, and I'd be like, I watched her make a shiv once....

I’ve been waiting for this one since you first announced it. This was the second Reese Witherspoon movie I ever saw. My first one was some teen stalker movie she starred in with Mark Whalberg. I don’t remember the name. Here we go!❤️❤️

Rebecca Karsner

" Look who got beaten with the ugly stick! Is that you, Bob? " 😂😂😂😂😂 Can't wait to watch this later!!

Brooke Rhea

This movie is wild! I haven't seen this in forever. Some crazy shit 😳 You absolutely have to watch the movie "Fear". Another Reese Witherspoon in her younger years. Also dark and scary. Love you guys 😘

Giselle4991

When she shows the picture of her "daddy" @30:22, that's an actual real life picture of serial killer Richard Speck lol! The way it lingered on him for so long was so funny, I almost spat out my lasagna when I realized lmao

Jessica Houser

Wow....it has been forever since I've watched this! I love this and Fear....its so good...made me love Mark Walhburgh, as sick as that is! Shew....To hell with you Bob!

I read on IMDB Danny Elfman did the the score for Freeway for $1 dollar, & some yard work done at his home.

Kiefer's wobbly steering at 30mph on the freeway is the biggest indicator of his character's potential for psychopathic tendencies 😂

Omg been waiting for this one ! This movie is so underrated and so f’n quotable!! Reese is amazing in it. “What do you wanna hear more of my innermost fuckin secrets? Fuckin asshole.” …”Keep flapping your gums Bob who cares if no one’s listening” & “I’m pissed off and the whole world owes me.” are some of my faves 😂

Bellah

People don't act like this anymore. Kieffer was locked TF in and Reese did a fantastic job playing right off of him like a pro. No wonder she's so wonderful now.

Such an effing flashback omg! This used to come on Cinemax late at night when I was a teen in the summertime of the late 90’s early 2000’s! It would be this movie rotating with films like The Fifth Element, The Golden Child, Body Heat, Angel Eyes, Poison Ivy and Basic Instinct, that used to be on there all the time late at night. WOW. I haven’t seen this in such a long time! And it’s just as chaotic, darkly humorous, heartbreaking and gutted as I remember it. Which of course means I love it’s hot mess ass 😂 The picture Vanessa shows Wolverton claiming he is her biological father is a picture of notorious mass murderer Richard Speck. I always found that to be a very interesting Easter Egg. Is it REALLY her bio father? Or does it simply reflect on her mother’s extremely poor judgment to the point that, even when making up who Vanessa’s biological father is, she still picks a dangerous, inappropriate prototype, unsuitable to be around any child, as her ideal man and baby daddy? Could this film actually be an elaborate psychological question on that tried and true academically debated argument: Is it nature that makes us who we are, or is it nurture? Then arriving at the psych 101 tried and true “correct” answer that it always is: it’s usually a combination of both. It always made me wonder if this film actually has a deeper meaning though. Maybe it’s trying to jolt us into asking that question. Maybe it wants us to arrive at the conclusion. Well, maybe it is and does, and maybe it isn’t and doesn’t. Who knows. After all, it WAS the 90’s 🤷🏼‍♀️😂

Charie

So glad you liked the movie! After it got picked, I started panicking that I made the wrong choice! It's definitely A LOT and quite the ride, so to speak. You're both awesome!

Katrina

Her being so annoyed with Bob once she pulls out the gun will never not be hilarious to me lol “🙄 should’ve just let me outta the car when I ASKED YA TO BOB.”

Hanna

Totally not related but it's making me think of another 90s movie Gia- with Angelina Jolie! She played the supermodel who got hooked on drugs, True story, great HBO movie & PHENOMENONAL acting from a young Angelina could tell a star! I swear that's one thing about 90s movies they all had saxophones LOL

Hanna

Yep Cassie & Lexi's mom in Euphoria- Alanna Ubach!

Cory Smith

She may not be able to read words but she can definitely read a bitch!!

Reese is so funny and iconic in this. This is the first movie I ever saw her in, and I think the next one was Cruel Intentions. Her character is more proper, but it was still a darker movie. So it was kind of wild to me when she became a mainstream rom com queen. I watched this so much in the 90s/00s and still have the VHS I think. I’ve definitely never seen the unrated version, there are a lot of lines that got cut when they were talking in the car. The convo in the theatrical version was fucked up, but not as explicit. I really miss unhinged 90s indies like this. Every now and then a modern gem will come along. Usually it’s horror movies that have this kind of vibe.

One other thing I notice comparing this to how similar subjects are usually handled in modern media, I don’t think a lot of people now would think it was handled tastefully, it seems like the formula is to have a wholesome, chaste victim and an over the top villain, and fill the empty space with a lot of trauma porn. That type of movie is a lot more exploitative imo. Vanessa has agency and the movie focuses more on her survival than her victimization. It subverts tropes. I mostly don’t take Freeway seriously, because it is a dark comedy, but I really appreciate that although she is extremely disenfranchised, Vanessa isn’t characterized as a joke or an object of contempt. Even now, people with similar backgrounds are regarded as subhuman.
