Anyways, this was another banger - lots of emotion, stellar performances, and adding some missing pieces to the puzzle!

GUYS, We are finishing season one next week and I am feeling a little emotional about this. When we chose this lineup (Supernatural, True Blood, The Vampire Diaries, From) we were so nervous about tackling each show with massive fandoms (Similar to what we felt with Buffy and Charmed) and then I had my medical issues and felt like a disappointment and even more pressure. After all that, here we are! We fought through it and made our plans from last summer come to life! Plus falling in love with all these shows!

Thank you Patrons- Y'all are the best! I know its been a bumpy road and a lot of hard work but knowing you are still here supporting us means the world to us. We love you all and can't wait for another chapter of reactions together!

I really resonate with Stefan. As an addict, I understand that draw that he has- the first time I got loaded, I genuinely thought "why doesn't everyone do this?". It felt like the solution to everything no matter the price or how many people I hurt. Looking back, it is genuinely terrifying how addiction truly turned me into the worst version of myself and how deeply convinced I was that it was what I wanted. I may be team Damon (lol) but this is why I love Stefan so much. He really seems like a different person when he's drinking human blood and all the people that stuck with me 'til I got sober say the same about me when I was using. I understand how strong you have to stay in your convictions to keep your head above water even when the memory of all the pain you've caused yourself and others hurts you every moment of every day. Him saying "I'm so terrified that one day, I'm not gonna want to fight anymore" really resonated. Every new beautiful thing that happens to me is cut with an undercurrent of panic because I've seen how far I can fall and it would all be my fault. Sorry for the ramble but I really loved this episode. Stefan really shines in moments like this because he's not perfect he's just strong. He can be manipulative and violent and uncaring but he has to make a conscious effort to not be. Hell yeah, man.

And now it’s clear why Damon is so incredibly angry with Stefan, and I can completely understand him With Damon and Elena, it’s now really hard to tell what’s down to the characters’ chemistry and what came from the actors themselves, as the two of them were a couple for quite some time

Damon's resentment is completely understandable, especially if you consider that we know (from Vicky's transformation) that when you get turned, all your emotions and personality traits as a human are amplified as a vampire. So Damon was sitting there, willing to die, wallowing in his sadness about losing Katherine, angry that Stefan was also loved and chosen by Katherine, and then forced against his will to change. That is such a bad combination for transition. And because Katherine has been such a bitch to him over such a long period of time... It's no wonder Damon is where he is. But it's really interesting because we're so slowly starting to see some small changes in Damon. His friendship with Liz. His developing respect for Ric. And I think Elena has a profound impact on him. She challenges him but also shows him kindness.

To me Damons anger got more confusing here. If he is not mad Stefan forced him to turn, then he shouldn't be mad at him at all since Katherine was the one making decisions on who turns even against Stefans will. His anger is misdirected, but he loves Katherine too much to have his eyes open.

Damons anger and decisions would make sense for a newbie vampire, but he's been around for a very long time now and resenting Stefan for Katherines choices makes no sense. He loves Katherine so much that it blinds him

Some similarities will naturally occur since both are highschool girl + vampire relationships, but I think they're completely different, especially as the story progresses. TVD was books first too, Buffy may had some elements of inspiration, but it's not copying that

I mean it makes sense. Vampirism heightens your emotions, so Damon's anger, resentment, and even his capacity to love are all amplified. Time might give vampires more self-control, but it doesn't stop those emotions from being intensified

I'm speaking about this specific episode, not broadly. The Stefan character, tortured by guilt and self loathing, wanting to kill himself by the sun rising and his teen girlfriend coming in to dramatically convince himself not to do it. That's a spot-on Buffy episode. The TVD writers have cited many times they're huge fans of Buffy and repeatedly pay homage to it or directly copy it in the show. It's not remotely subtle and not remotely coincidence or "natural similarities". Plus nothing in Buffy is inspired by the tvd books.

On the heels of the comment I left earlier on the supernatural reactions this week, I also very genuinely love both Damon and Stefan. Again, two very interesting, nuanced, deeply flawed, and ultimately loveable characters -- even if sometimes its a little "love to hate" 😂

I can tell how hard you guys have been working to get these reactions out for us and I appreciate it so much! Always let us know if you need a little break. I hope you're both doing well and taking care of yourselves and each other. Anyways, that last scene with Isobel's reveal sparked something in my head. I think you guys would LOVE the show Alias. It's got Jennifer Garner and Victor Garber in it, among many other awesome actors, and something about that smoldering look that Isobel gave at the end of this episode reminded me of a particular character in that show a lot! It's got strong, intelligent girlboss vibes, and to give a very loose idea of genre it's about spy stuff and incorporates some humor, lots of drama, secrets & mysteries not to mention very cool action sequences and fun spy gadgets. I think you guys would get very hooked on that show, and I forgot to mention it when you asked for recommendations like a week or so ago. So add that to the list! Also X-Files. X-Files is paranormal themed but it's a long one though. Alias is much shorter series and I'm not sure how you feel about reacting to another long show when you're already tackling Supernatural. Anybody else seen Alias? Do you think they would like it?

Because I don’t think Damon’s statement at the end was genuine. Right after he was forced to drink, Damon said he was going to make Stefan’s life a living hell. And now it’s because of Katherine? Nah, it seems more like Damon was trying to shift the blame away from Stefan. Because Damon isn’t that cold-hearted sort of guy, as we’ve seen often enough by now, and he knows Stefan and knows that Stefan is tearing himself apart inside over this.

I actually don't think he resents or is angry at Stefan anymore (I was talking about the past); he just continues to play at it for funsies. As Elena says, seeing right through him, "don't pretend you don't care." He very clearly cares about Stefan. Throughout this season, he was DEDICATED to getting Katherine back and with everything he's discovered, he's eased off that too and appears more and more comfortable living int eh town and making friends. I adore his character progression

I'll be fully honest as someone who lost her mother nearly 2 decades ago, if I had to survive over a century without her than suddenly got her back? I wouldn't care about taking back what was ours or a new found potential love. I'd take her as far away from dangerous people wanting her gone and do my best to ensure we get to enjoy the time we missed. That they stuck around so long was always insane to me.

This episode is such an info dump and so important, but I always feel like its the slowest paced of the season, so on rewatched I usually skip it cause I already know all the info. But it was fun watching with you guys cause I hadn't seen it in a while. Love the brothers lore though!

Robke - Damon resents Stefan for STEFAN'S choices. Specifically the 3 (arguably 4) times in a row Stefan betrayed his trust.

Agreed, Astoria. I read that as an attempt for Damon to shift the blame, too. The scene before that was an example, where he said you do not get to own my guilt. He's aware that his brother's behaviour in this episode is because Stefan can't handle guilt so he lies so that Stefan thinks that the reason Damon resents him has nothing to do with himself but with Katherine's choice. Stefan can't own that because it wasn't a choice he made like manipulating his brother to become a vampire.

Again Paul’s acting was incredible and same with Nina, their scenes together just feel so sincere and chemistry is beautiful, especially her speech near the river to keep on fighting. I also loved getting the full backstory of the Salvatore brothers, I was in utter shock first time watch finding out Stefan killed his dad, also made Damon transition even though it was initially his choice since he drank from Katherine unlike Stefan who was compelled so honestly in a way they were both forced.

@SpikesEcho Damon literally said here he hates Stefan NOT because he made him turn into a vampire, but because Katherine turned him, apparently now he's almost 'grateful' for that since it's been 'a hell of a ride' so he had fun as a vampire. Stefan did not betray Damon in 1864, he never told his father about Katherine, he kept his word about that to Damon, the father figured it out cause describing vampires in a positive light was enough. If you are talking about Stefans present day 'betrayals' to Damon..well after 150 yrs of Damon constantly tormenting Stefan, being a psycho killer for fun, murdering Stefans best friend, going after Elena, and so much more...Stefan owes no loyalty to him anymore, besides most of it was done to protect others, and NOT to spite Damon even though he deserves it. I'm actually team Damon for many reasons so I am not blind to Stefans many faults, but I feel like you are so far gone defending Damon and blaming Stefan for everything, that it's impossible to see things in a non biased way at all. I don't like Stefan that much but I find myself defending him in conversations with you a lot cause you go hard on him and are yet to blame Damon for anything at all

Robke - There are endless examples of Damon blatantly saying something one moment out of hurt or pretense, then the next episode him doing something that proves he didn't really feel that way. It's not a subtle character trait. It's also not subtle when you see someone deprecatingly say something as a cope or acceptance ("it's been a hell of a ride"). Damon's true feelings over his vampirism are made very clear multiple times in the series. Stefan DID betray Damon 3-4 times in a row in 1864. The first time you describe entirely wrong to excuse Stefan. Stefan put forth going to father to help protect Katherine. Damon warns father would absolutely kill her and makes Stefan promise to not do that. Stefan PROMISES to not do that, and Damon believes him. Stefan does not "get around" that promise by doing EXACTLY what he promised he wouldn't do, by his just trying to do it "sneakily", witholding Katherine's name. Youve also conveniently left off the next consequtive betrayals of Damon's trust. Damon and Stefan agree they will both die together and not turn, then Stefan leaves and does another stupid thing, returning to Damon having turned. Betrayal #2. Which leads directly into Betrayal #3 - Stefan violating Damons verbal and physical consent and forcing him to turn. There's another betrayal shortly after this but can't be discussed yet. Damon has a MOUNTAIN of reasons to hate and resent Stefan based on these betrayals alone. "After 150 yrs of Damon constantly tormenting Stefan" - bro 😂 Tvd gives us the full extent of their FEW interactions in those 150yrs and NOTHING like that happens at all 😂 Damon in fact comes out far more sympathetic than Stefan in those experiences, but the mere fact that Stefan has NOT had to deal with Damon "tormenting him for 150yrs" basically just reflects negatively on Stefan for pushing such a lie. You can try to "defend" Stefan all you want, but when you try you never get right anything that's canon and you infuse it with a ton of presumptions and personal biases, which is just weird. Stick with the show.

One thing I like to point out that Damon is a very complex character, you should be able to read between lines to get his character. The thing is Damon actually hated Stefan because he forced him to turn , the reason is the scene when they first woke up by the quarry, Damon didn’t show any sign of hatred towards Stefan after seeing that Stefan was also turned , he only wished him an eternity of misery after Stefan forced him to turn (implying you already gave me an eternity of misery by forcing this existence on me a life without love and the curse of being a vampire forever), so he is only saying that because he doesn’t want Stefan to feel guilty about it anymore. This is Damon way of sacrificing himself for his brother,he saw how Stefan was so overwhelmed by the guilt to the point it drove him to commit suicide so he’s trying to take some of Stefan’s guilt away by making himself the bad guy, that the reason he hated Stefan is him being selfish and out of petty jealousy reason and it has nothing to do with the fact that Stefan forced him to turn so Stefan wouldn’t feel guilty about it anymore. This is hard to catch when you’re watching it for the first time but as you go on with the show, you will see how Damon usually shows his love to his brother.

To answer your question about the Grill being the only restaurant in town, yes, it quite literally is the only substantial restaurant in Covington, GA, where the show was filmed, and it’s my favorite little town in all of Georgia 🥰 When I need some time alone I get in my car and drive about 50 minutes and I’m all warm and cozy again 🥰 Sometimes I even treat myself to dinner at The Grill 🥰

The way that intro was edited was so cool. I love seeing the flashbacks & what a twist with them both being shot & realizing they’ve been drinking Katherine’s blood for weeks prior. I actually really like Jeremy & Anna as a couple. Alaric & Damon teaming up to look into John is such an interesting duo with their past. “Which mother?” Yes Elena ate with that one 👏🏼 Always appreciate when Elena stands her ground. Y’all also making the Snickers joke made my day 😂 Giuseppe Salvatore, father of the year. Him being the one to take them out was an insane reveal! 🤯 Finding out Stefan made Damon feed & complete his transition & Damon vowing to make his life miserable was rough. Everyone was going through it this episode. Pearl! 😭 Anna finding her mom was heartbreaking 💔 Sergio screaming out “you punk ass b*tch” to John was hilarious. I felt that in my soul. Isabel showing up at the end was crazy! This episode 👏🏼 The drama is never lacking. Nice to see some more insight into the brothers’ dynamic. Wonderful breakdown y’all 🖤

The scene where Elena doesn’t back down and looks Stefan right in the face and says “no.” is one of my favourite scenes, mainly because that’s some shit I would do 🤣 And I love what it says about her character.
