GET US TO A CONVENTION STAT! - This one was hilarious and heartwarming. Truth is we might not be even be able to go to one until we are closer to the end to avoid spoilers. 😓

Dean and Sam are at a Supernatural convention where they meet lots of fans of the Supernatural Books. After a while they get the impression that something is not right at the location of the convention.

Best to talk about the episode at hand in order to be respectful to us and to anyone watching for the first time with us. I think it's safest for you to not go to a convention until you're finished, because you'll definitely get spoiled on the ending and ssme big story events before then.

More than anything, I wish I could link to the wiki. So many Easter eggs, I couldn't possibly name them all. But I will mention that Demian and Barnes were the names of recappers/mods at -- where else? -- Television Without Pity. Meanwhile, yeah! His name has been invoked! I have been waiting to see the reaction to Crowley. This is gonna be so much fun. 😉

I know a lot of people feel that "meta" is done too often at this point but I don't care I've always loved the meta episodes. Also I feel like the big thing this episode gets wrong is that it's mostly a bunch of dudes when it would mostly be women there :p

The very first fan convention was October 2026, Winchester Con, in Nashville, Tennessee. The first official "Salute to Supernatural" convention was in November 2007, in Chicago. Rob Benedict (Chuck) didn’t actually attend his first convention until after this episode. He was understandably nervous. Lol

The most unrealistic part of this episode? All the men in attendance! 🤣 I kid, I kid, of course. I can't speak for Purgatory (Germany) or Jus in Belo (Italy) or CrossRoads (England) or any international con, but at Creation in the US and Canada? Not much cosplaying these days. I mean, some do, but not like in the heyday of SPN. We do like to play games and do crafts, though. The occasional scavenger hunt. 😉 I miss GISHWHES.

This episode following Changing Channels are two of the funniest episodes of the show! I was so excited to see your reaction to this one. There were a few lines that the LARPers were saying that Sam & Dean said later in the episode like "EMF is going nuts" "I'm going to deep fry her extra crispy" No one does meta episodes like Supernatural does!!

The first fan-organized Supernatural convention was WinchesterCon, held on October 13–15, 2006. Interesting fact, The Real Ghost Busters is the name of the actual Ghostbusters cartoon series. A vast majority of the titles reference classic rock songs, movies, or TV shows, with dozens explicitly categorized on fan wikis for song titles alone (at least 64 tracked strictly as direct song references), alongside numerous others named after films and pop-culture phrase. You should check out the My Bloody Valentine 3D movie remake in 2009, it stars Jensen Ackles. The movie gets bad press but I really liked it. Love you guys youre the best.

I LOVE when SPN goes meta. I love the fact they can poke fun at the fans, but also do so much to honor them and show love. I've mentioned briefly before how the writers will take things from the fans or the culture and add them into the show as nods to us. Things like nicknames or ideas. I'm pretty sure all the questions from the fans in this episode are all real questions! I also really love how the cos-players are the ones to explain the true meaning of the story. And that Becky, the super fan , actually has important information because she pays attention to the details. It feels like it's honoring how the writers have said they use fan resources for reference when writing. Specifically there was a fan made website that was like an encyclopedia of all the monsters and lore in the show. Several of the writers have said they would use the website to make sure they got details right!! especially as new writers came and went over the years

I feel like so much horror or sci-fi TV has conventions be a big part of their culture, but I feel like I've hardly ever seen a fandom or cast lean into it as much as Supernatural. I know comic books and anime have bigger convention culture, but I'm unfamiliar if the creators or actors are as involved. They might be. But think Supernatural conventions are something special in American television.

So Chuck being nervous on stage... reminds me the actor who plays him - Rob being nervous in real life. He was very much like this at his first convention. But he went on to MC the conventions alongside a few others including Richard Speight Jr (Gabriel/Trickster). Rob is one of my favourite people in the entire world. I've seen him many times at conventions and I'll be seeing him again in February. You'll be able to attend SPN conventions - in 2028 they'll still be going at least as they announced New Jersey con for 2028 (as they're taking a break from that location in 2027). And they are NOT annual lol, there's like 12-13 of them a year in the US/Canada! And then about 3-4 in Europe as well. When you do go to one - I would highly recommend Vancouver if you can, as they filmed there and you can go on location tours organised by the convention. They don't have LARPing at the conventions, but lots of activities with the actors - including pre karaoke drinks, art lessons, meals, boat trips sometimes and lots of other things.

I live in northeast Ohio and The Gore Orphanage is a local ghost story. Supposedly the orphanage burned down and killed a bunch of children. There was never a Gore Orphanage or a fire. There's a Gore Orphanage Road. But it's name comes from the land being shaped like a gore which is a pattern piece for making fitted clothes. It has a lot of really steep hills and we used to drive really fast over them when I was young.

I attended the first two conventions they had in Toronto, Ontario, Canada in 2011 and 2012. (I swear I met the REAL Becky that the character is based on there) I believe the first ones were in 2007. Best weekends of my life. Back then it was so new and the venue was small, you had a lot of interactions with all the actors. I got pictures with everyone, autographs etc and it didn't break the bank. I attended my first one since then, this year in July. It's still awesome but it's also gotten way expensive. Not a huge fan of the company running it. A little shade: there are some rude elitist gatekeeping fans and some true Becky like stans, that make you cringe but overall the SPN family is lovely.

Some of that is already happening, with the post season finale edits Sharon is doing for the guys. But they want to go to a convention in person, which should wait until they're done. If they like, I'm sure Sharon - or someone else - could get more convention footage for them.

I love this episode so much! I still haven’t made it to an SPN convention yet. I do follow along with convention weekends (there’s one this weejend in Orlando) and it’s a lot of fun seeing people’s photo ops and the panel videos. One thing that’s fun about a lot of the cons is Baby is there and you can get photo ops with the guys and Baby. And Baby will either be a fan’s car (there are several fans who have their own restored Impalas) or Jared’s car which he sends to several of the cons.

I know you guys are Buffy fans really big time, but there is not a bigger or tighter community than the SPN family. Jared, Jensen, Misha and tons of characters you have and haven't met go to their conventions all the time and all around the world. I watched this IRT and had no idea of the huge fandom until I happened upon people/groups on social media and YouTube. Shipping Dean and Sam should never be a thing. I don't think the ship with sam and cas matters much, it's just a diff relationship dynamic to explore for some. I do agree that they aren't that close and it is a stretch.

15 seasons...the amount of meta in this series isn't done enough! I understand that some may not like meta if it breaks immersion or the storyline too much. I love it, though. Best episodes aside from the intense emotional ones for me.

Fun fact- there is an entire series of Supernatural books. Spanning the first 12 seasons, they are set between episodes, done by multiple authors. I definitely recommend reading them if you can! The conventions are sooooo much fun! I went to Phoenix, AZ in 2017. Cleveland, OH in 2018. Then finally to Kansas City, MO in 2022! A group of my friends and I actually made the trip to Lawrence, KS in 2021 (and 2 of us went back the next year)!! Supernatural has been a staple for me and my friends for many many years. All of the actors and guests were so kind when I went. I got many photo ops and autographs that I still treasure!! 💚💚 I look forward to seeing reactions to more of the convention clips at the end of each season 💚 Unfortunately, as other commentors have said you would absolutely get spoiled for later seasons at a convention. A lot of questions and discussions about the whole show & a lot of actors that don't appear in the show until much later. So while I think it would still be so fun, it would be more fun once you "know" everyone a little more!!

Love the drink addition 🍹 The frantic start to this episode tho! Becky is so funny. This is another favorite episode! It’s so fun 💜 The fanbase is so passionate. Really love dropping the guys in this situation. Definitely have to attend a convention one of these days. It’s on the bucket list! “Until the world ends, I’ve gotta live” was a great line. The hunt was such a fun thing to see. All the role players interacting with Sam & Dean cracked me up. The way it became a real case tho. “Hooker man don’t ” 😂 I loved his character criticizing everything.
