I'll be forever sick at how they brought back Ellen and Jo just to kill them off

Cheryl Abbott

Ellen and Jo deserved better 😪 They needed to be on the show like Bobby.

Tallulah

I LOVE CROWLEY

Andrew

Oh I know what episode this is…..I’m not ready

Barb

ok before i get sad LMFAO i forgot the beginning of the episode started like this what an entrance for crowley the zoom and “i got him” sends me every time

Nina

CROWLEY!!

gloomygraveyardgirl

Oh god.... this episode 😭 once again supernatural gives us a funny episode and then the next episode they break our hearts

simona

ENTER CROWLEY !!!! :D

Cyndy

Crowley! One of my favorite characters. He's hilarious.

Tom

Yesss Mr Crowley is here!!!🥰🥰

ondraya

CROWLEYYY

Logan

One of the best out of context moments.

Simply Faded

Top tier ep! I cry every time.

Lauren Elizabeth

We had two of the funniest episodes of the show just for them to RIP OUR HEARTS OUT with this one. Crowley is one of my faves though, excited to see you guys meet him! In the middle of watching the reaction now and a thunder storm is rolling in which is the perfect vibe for this

Al

Oh this one hurt. 😞

RavenLord

I've been waiting for this. Crowley!

Pie

Do you want to cry even more? When Ellen says her final goodbye to Dean, Brad, one of the cameramen, instructed her to add in the line, "kick it in the ass," in honor of the late Kim Manners.

Katie Abbott

this episode is devastating… but i’m so excited uve met Crowley now! i love him sm

Barb

this is one of the best done episodes of the show so far and i love it but at the same time it makes me so sad/mad 🫩 they really killed my girls like i loved jo and ellen so much!!!! i get since if this was supposed to be the last season they were closing up arcs but mannnn can we have a female character be on the show for more than 5 seconds 😩 and not one they’re trying to get with 😒 also sergio you’re not alone!!!!! i don’t see it there with jo/dean either. no offense to the jo/dean shippers but i’m just glad they didn’t have her sleep with him right before she went. like on top of it being bit a weird imo bc i can’t tell what they were trying to do with their relationship, it would be adding some more misogyny by having her be another girl one of the brothers have sex with randomly before we never see them again (in this case her dying which would have been worse). i do think their last scene together was beautiful tho like i cry every time and then her and her mom when she’s already dead as her mom is trying to comfort her GODD

rickie woodson

omg, its the wizard from doom patrol! he played a poor man's constantine because (fun comic fact) the writer wasnt allowed to use constantine in the comics so he created a parody version and so when doom patrol was adapted for tv, thats who they used! willoughby kipling is his name. street magic's his game.

Elesia

Two of the best episodes (^^)

bunkhav

if you see female characters in supernatural be prepared for heartbreak

Naty

CROWLEY!! I LOVE HIM I was full shocked with Ellen and Jo first time seeing i did not see that coming i would have loved having them so they all fight together;(

Metis Rose

Been waiting for this one all week. I love the beginning with Crowley. “HOW ABOUT YOU DONT MISS, MORONS.”

Alissa Marsden

One of my absolute favorite episodes of the whole series....I know it sucks to lose them. But they went out like the badass women they were. As someone who is so close to her own warrior of a mother I know she'd never let me do it alone either. What a ending for Jo and Ellen.... . Tough to watch but HELL YES LADIES. Oh and what a entrance for the man himself.. CROWLEY

Cass&Jason

I think we all have a real love/hate relationship with this episode.

YazSpo

Yeesss finally one of my absolute fave characters enters the scene!

Ana

no matter how many times i rewatch the show i will ALWAYS sob at ellen and jo's death scene 😭😭😭 but i can't completely hate this episode cause it introduced us to crowley <3

Riwyn

I've seen this episode so many times and I still sob every time.

Pauline E

Also Ellen's final line was so Ripley coded! (Ripley aka Ellen Ripley from Alien(s))

Bethany

i know we see meg as evil and all but i can't lie... the girl's got aura

N Garo

CROWLEY!!! You are gonna love him like we all do!!

rickie woodson

since god is more powerful i would assume the colt doesnt work on him as well and maybe another high level arch angel (michael). that leaves 2 people it doesnt work on. maybe the antichrist as well cause he is uber powerful, leaving one.

Jenny D

This is always a rough one 😭 But fun fact: Crowley is played by the same actor who played the FBI agent in Dollhouse who was always mocking Paul Ballard. Also, from the last episode, the actress who played Becky is in the movie She's the Man with Amanda Bynes and Channing Tatum. I know it doesn't really fit the brand of this channel, but a reaction to that movie would be amazing 🤣🫶

Jessica

Hehehe enters Crowley. That’s the only thing I was excited about this episode for you guys. After that rip our freaking hearts out.

Lauren Elizabeth

I am also glad Jo/Dean never actually got together with this being her last episode. Maybe it would’ve worked better if the show developed things more between them. But up until now I always felt like Dean saw her as a young, naive girl with a crush which isn’t fair to her. And I’m happy she realizes that!

Lauren Elizabeth

Finishing the reaction now and I am loving the parallels you are drawing between Castiel and Crowley, I never thought about that with this episode!

Danijela

OMG FINALLY CROWLEY I LOVE HIIIIIIIM !

Jay

this is the first time I've rewatched in in ages because I find it so unbearably sad - and yes, it still makes me sob too

Adam Session

To explain why they burned the picture: they didn't have bodies for a Hunter's Funeral. So this is the best they could do.

Trainer Kay Studio

Yup, I'm gonna say it again.... Please, please, please watch Firefly! (IYKYK)

Emboslice

One of the only episodes I skip everytime I rewatch this series... simply breaks my heart ...but felt it would feel better watching it with you guys.

Thirstygoddess

I always thought of Bobby burning the photo as him giving Ellen and Jo a hunter's funeral (they burn the body).

simona

i also never got the jo/dean hype especially after he calls her his sister in the office alternate universe zachariah sent them to… idk why the writers would do that

Jay

To divert myself from ugly crying over Jo and Ellen, I looked up Mark Sheppard's (Crowley's) credits - my god, he's been in every sci-fi / fantasy series since the X-Files! Star Trek Voyager, Firefly, The Invsible Man, Dr Who, Dollhouse, Battlestar Galactica, Doom Patrol, Medium... And he was great in Leverage as well

Jessica

Ellen and Joe went out like freaking bosses. Ugh.

Sophie

Until today I'm mad with the writers. And with the crazy fans of that times! They didn't wanna Dean to have a love interest and so they wrote hundrets of letters and if I remember right, the actress of Jo even got death threads. I'm convinced that Jo should have been Deans endgame! And Eric Kripke once said, she was supposed to be a longtime love interest for Dean

Erqqy

Finally Crowley is here he’s one of my favorite characters he’s so funny

Molly

This episode makes me cry more than any other 😭 Ellen and Jo just break my heart

Alejandra Perez

Crowley has arrived!! This episode always breaks my heart, specially since when Dean called john when they had problems he would get voicemail, but when he reaches for Bobby for help bobby saying "it's okay boy, that's why I'm here" he truly is the boys father figure. Also Ellen staying was also probably because she didn't want to se her daughter die, which she still saw

Ali O

"FOUND HIM. HE'S GONE FULL HOMO."

lelmDR.WHO

enter Crowley. hehehe

CJGardner

To offer the random trivia comment for this episode: Huggy Bear was the snitch/informant that Starsky & Hutch used occasionally on the tv show in the 70's

Gaby

Their deaths still make me so sad, just like Bela. I wish we could have them either for longer or in more of the previous seasons, like we have Bobby. And I agree, I like that nothing happened between them.

Claire Dactyl

Crowley is so cunty 💅🏻 I love him so much

Deucalion

'5 things in all creation' the 4 Archangels (Micheal, Lucifer, Raphael, and Gabriel) and GOD?....Guess we'll find out as the show continues!

2026-10-06 04:00 i also love the lucifer and cas scene!! i like lucifer trying to get to cas by saying they’ve both rebelled and were cast out. and that castiel will be targeted next for doing this if they beat lucifer. i genuinely didn’t even make that connection. but lucifer doesn’t realize castiel is clearly the loyal type - and that loyalty is towards a certain 2 siblings rn. also first of all even tho my fav dynamic is between dean and cas out of the bothers and him, i do love that we we castiel being like “i’m NOT letting you take sam winchester.” like come on cas and sam friendship!! we’ve seen him care for dean a lot obviously but i feel like this is the first time we’ve really seen him ready to do something for sam - the other times he helped sam it was because he wanted to help dean. yea you can say they’re trying to stop lucifer obviously and lucifer needs sam to take over but he seems to genuinely care about sam in this moment with the way he says/delivers it. and i love listening to your guys’ commentary bc you guys truly bring up stuff i didn’t even think about like dean trying to make sure cas stays the same and doesn’t turn into endverse 5x03 “developing dean’s coping mechanisms” castiel (again something i didn’t think of until y’all said it in that episode commentary) but like you said if he’s going along his own path and choosing to rebel even more who knows what may happen.

Shannon Turner

great representation of how we viewed/treated women in the 00s

Barb

i feel like one of their struggles in writing has always been keeping a female character and not turning it romantic/sexual. esp with dean. i know his character likes sex and that’s fine lol but cmon man. at a point it becomes them not knowing how to write female characters for anything but that (or not caring to)

Celia DeGraw

I really would have liked to see something explored between Dean and Jo even though I know that’s not a popular opinion.

LeslieW

Man I love Crowley!!!! But it's the emotion that elevates this ep. As a parent I'm right there with Ellen. I get it, and man that hurt. It's probably twisted but I love when a piece of art (which this ep is imo) can rip my heart out.

Castiel

I love Crowley!!! I went to the convention and went to get an autograph and I laughed at something in line and Mark Shepherd (Crowley actor) yelled as Crowley at me “And What are you laughing at?!” I nearly died 🤣🤣😅

Wham8

Well, I'm sorry I had comments showing before watching the episode.

Deb

And he's a kick ass drummer. Played with many bands, even opening for U2 for the Joshua Tree tour. And of course with Loud and Swain on occassion at cons.

VioletMouse

Ellen and Jo always make me cry. But I love having Meg 2.0 and Crowley on my screen 😍

Purple Nurple

Crowley's scenes were absolutely hilarious - and the boys reaction to him as well! I always quote that 'morons' line in my head whenever I want to call someone that haha!

VioletMouse

I would not recommend looking up the 5 things The Colt can't kill until MUCH later. You've only met 2

WhitB

Yay Crowley! A great character

Shannon Turner

Lucifer has been locked up for thousands of years; to most creatures that still exist, he's nothing more than a legend. The only beings that really know about him are the angels, and even then his betrayal was now known about in detail by all angels, mostly just used as a cautionary tale. Lucifer is like an old god, ultimate boss mode; good story writing will have the team take losses and have to try and try again. As much as I love Ellen and Jo and hate that they died, it WAS the heroic ending these badass ladies deserved; and the boys HAD to try the Colt, even at the risk of it not working. Castiel (and cinematography) is an absolute highlight of this amazing episode. I don't know what we did to deserve Mischa, but I praise casting every day for finding him!

Shannon Turner

take responsibility and don't look at the comments BEFORE watching the episode? the comment section is a space for discussion about the episode. simple.

Molly Campbell

This episode tears my heart out every time I watch it.

MissTaken Gamer

Every time they tried to introduce a love interest for him, obsessed fans had a meltdown. I do agree that it was more of a brotherly/sisterly love between Jo & Dean.

MissTaken Gamer

Seen this episode quite a few times and I still bawl.

ja0netholmes

Crowley!!! Also this episode is such a gut punch, bro 😭😭😭😤😤

Elisa

I've always wondered if Kripke named SPN Crowley after Good Omens Crowley. Both are pretty approachable demons who would rather not have the apocalypse come to pass.

Martelo

I had the hardest time focusing on the episode, maybe because I knew what was gonna happen. Castiel taking those shots though, that was adorable adorable

Rhast

Yeah, I always got brother/sister vibes from Dean and Jo. I hate that they died.

kayla ling

Sam and Ellen would have been an interesting couple though. She seems like his type, tough women who speak their mind with him.

Stacey H

Another great ep but omg so heartbreaking. Jo and Ellen 💔 Crowley!!! That introduction!

Michele

Did you guys already know about Crowley? From what you said and how you reacted, it kind of sounds like you did.

Justine

This was such a big episode omfg

MapleDonut_FaireeSamm

Yes... Finally Mark Sheppard aka Our Beloved Crowley 🥰 has arrived. I've been waiting to see him 😍.... Also please remember him Sergio & Cody. He played Agent Tanaka(Paul Ballard's enemy FBI coworker) in Dollhouse .... So many good/bad/smile & cry worthy things to come... 🤭🫣🤫🤐. - Also if you loved Dollhouse and I know you guys did. Please consider watching the show Altered Carbon. Its Dollhouse on STEROIDS 😵‍💫🤯

Lucy

Everyone say thank you to whoever did the lighting for this episode, because Cas looks absolutely ethereal in all those flames and Sam's face half in darkness and half in the moonlight throughout the entire showdown with Lucifer is SO GOOD Crowley going "yeah, I'm a demon, but I'm going to use my powers for good (making homophobes uncomfortable)" while the camera zooms out to show Cas spying in the background, utterly straight-faced 😂

Lucy

Ellen and Jo going out like that was beautiful and badass, but I do hate that the show didn't seem to know what to do with them between season 2 and season 5. I wish we'd had more moments just checking in with them over the years.

kiara

CROWLEY!!!! 🖤 But also Ellen and Jo 😭😭

ash

I concur, Sam and Castiel were especially beautiful in this episode!!

Lucy

Yessss, I'm really surprised they haven't watched Firefly already, but crossing my fingers for it to make the cut someday 🤞

I'm just Joe King

To be fair, the crossroads kisses are never truly consensual. People only do it out of desperation.

ashley kuate

@I'm just Joe King Actually, Jo and Ellen were both written out simply because fans couldn't handle women interacting with Dean. There’s literally an interview with Eric Kripke where he talks about the backlash to Jo and how the writers “learned from that mistake” when it came to introducing female characters as potential love interests. There’s even a scholarly article discussing how fandom backlash contributed to Jo being written out. Ellen's situation was a little more complicated production-wise, but the backlash toward female characters was very real.

Kate Murphy

I’m pretty sure the only 5 that the Colt couldn’t kill is the four archangels (including Lucifer) and God.

Barb

please i love this show and have continued to love it despite it’s flaws including the way the girls are written, treated and talked about 🤷🏻‍♀️

Artemis Myaló

I’m gonna say this just because it’s never actually confirmed in the show but if you still count that as a spoiler feel free to ignore me and delete my comment without reading. It’s never actually confirmed who the colt can’t kill, but I believe we can assume and it’s been discussed that based on Lucifer being one of them that the 5 beings are him, God, and the remaining archangels.

Ashley Thomas

ive been waiting for this one. its so sad. this is one of the episodes that sticks with me the most. i wish we could have more jo and ellen. i also wonder what got their family into hunting. i cant remember if they ever said. i think bobby should have kept the picture. also, as far as the beginning...i dont count crowly forcing a homophobe to kiss him as gay representation. im not cheering for kissing when they guy is saying no and clearly doesnt want it. that made me uncomfortable.

deanandsamAO3

As much as I dislike Castiel, I love Crowley. :)

Karen_Tries

I think I need to go to sleep… cause why was the first thing that came to mind, when I heard the title of this episode, that someone should get the full saying as a tramp stamp tattoo with an arrow!?!? 🤦‍♀️ Ok, I’ll go home now… 🤣 I’m ashamed too… 🫣

Kirsty Nicholson-Bennett

Hey guys! I know we’re quite far off from the end of the season but wanted to make sure you see this in time before filming the finale (I may post it in the comments of a few more episodes 😂) I give you…The Ass-Butt Cocktail (I promise it will make sense): Tequila 50mls (2oz I think?) Fire Ball 25mls (1oz?) Chocolate Liqueur/Syrup 50mls (2oz) Lime Juice 25mls (1oz) Jalapeño for garnish (muddle jalapeño into cocktail for extra spice) Salt to rim the glass Step 1: run a slice of lime around the glass and dip glass in salt. Step 2: (muddle jalapeño in shaker, if using) add tequila, fire ball, chocolate liqueur/syrup, lime and ice to a shaker and shake well. Step 3: use a strainer to pour the mixture into your glass. Step 4: add your jalapeño garnish (either floating or sliced on the rim) and you’re good to go for the Supernatural season 5 finale 🥳 I really hope you like this one! I look forward to your Supernatural (and TVD) reactions every week. Supernatural has been my favourite show as long as I can remember (no exaggeration) and watching you react is the way that I get to feel some of the feelings that I felt watching it for the first time! Love you guys! 🥰

rose mnor

I'm not sure whether you want a behind-the-scene reply to your comment here, but I hope you don't mind that I made an attempt. Jo was written out in season 2 before returning in this episode for two main reasons: 1) The direction the characters took (for 2.06 No Exit) produced a different onscreen chemistry. "We felt that there was tension between the characters. They made us very snappy toward each other, and that tends to come off as a brotherly-sisterly kind of relationship." — Alona Tal. "Jo was originally introduced to be a love interest for Dean," says Kripke, confirming fan speculation. "And there was supposed to be this growth of this character who rebelled against her mother and went off to be a hunter, and you could see this person harden and toughen as the season went on, which we actually ended up executing, but not the way we'd expected." — Eric Kripke Since the onscreen chemistry wasn't playing as intended and as planned, that wasn't what they set out to do, " ... because we don't necessarily need a little sister character in our cast, unfortunately we phased out the character." Eric Kripke. (Source: SPN S2 Companion, pp. 14, 15) 2) There was fan backlash. Any female character introduced at that time was met with fan backlash, and Jo was no exception, especially since she was intended as a love interest. "... they're [the fans] so hard on the new characters—the girls..." — Eric Kripke (TV.com, 2008) "It– I think that’s what it was supposed to be. I remember Eric mentioning that– I mean that, the character was supposed to go on for much longer– Jo and Ellen. It was– it was supposed to be that. And back then, in what now seems like the stone ages, there were the fan forums. [...] They had the CW forums, and fans would go on and they– I mean let’s not sugarcoat it– they hated my character." — Alona Tal (SPN Then & Now podcast, 2.06, 16:30 - 24:00) So, when Jo left her mother and the Roadhouse, she completed her arc, and they wrote her out. "... she’s off where we left her at that bar, she’s starting to be a hunter and for now that’s sort of where she is. We don’t have any plans to bring her back." — Eric Kripke "To be honest with you, even last season [season 2] before the episode ever aired, I looked at the Jo character and wasn’t so sure that she was working. And when the fans seemed to agree, it just confirmed what I suspected. Even though Alona [Tal] was awesome, she was always more of a little sister than what her character was created to be, which was a love interest for Dean." — Eric Kripke (Eclipsemagazine, 2008) As for Ellen, Samantha Ferris didn't return after the season 2 finale due to budgeting reasons. She was originally intended to return in the season 3 finale, No Rest for the Wicked: "I love Samantha [Ferris] and I’ll be completely honest and say that I actually don’t know. I’m not entirely optimistic at this point. She was supposed to be in the season finale for this year [season 3]. Unfortunately, we made an offer — we made the offer we usually make — and she passed, so we had to re-write it without her in it. We wanted to. We tried. But I don’t know if it’s going to work out because of business reasons." — Eric Kripke (Eclipsemagazine, 2008). Samantha stated on her now-defunct blog that she felt the show's offer wasn't good enough and that accepting it would have caused her to incur personal costs.

Astoria

3 of the official SN cocktails (and yes there's a whole SN cocktails book xD) Castiel's Bender A proper lovely, heavenly drink inspired by everyone's favourite angel. Ingredients: * 1.5 to 2 oz Rum (Planteray Rum works brilliantly here) * 0.5 oz Fresh lime or lemon juice * Plenty of ice Instructions: * Fill a shaker with ice. * Pour in the rum and fresh citrus juice. * Give it a proper good shake and strain into a glass filled with fresh ice. The Meg A smooth, sweet and slightly intimidating drink named after the classic demon. Ingredients: * 1 oz Spiced rum * 1 oz RumChata * 1 oz Kahlúa * Cinnamon sugar for the rim * Ice Instructions: * Wet the rim of your glass and dip it into the cinnamon sugar. * Fill the glass with ice. * Shake the spiced rum, RumChata and Kahlúa with ice, then pour it right into your prepared glass. Demon Trap A cheeky fruity shot or drink designed to keep the bad spirits at bay. Ingredients: * 1 part Vanilla vodka * 2 parts Cranberry juice * 1 thin slice of orange (cut into a full, unbroken circle to resemble the trap) Instructions: * Mix the vanilla vodka and cranberry juice in a glass with ice. * Carefully float the full circular orange slice right on top of the liquid.

Simon

Crowley is my favorite character in the show. He just is him for me. xD

Bex

Becky mentioned Crowley last episode I guess that's why .

Emma J Steele

Have seen this ep so many times, and still blubbered along with y'all. Too sad!

Halide

Yes, Kripke stated that his Crowley was inspired by Crowley in Good Omens book. Apparently Kripke was a big Gaiman fan and you can see a lot of inspirations from Gaiman's works in SPN. And when I say I love a demon named Crowley with an attitude and a sexy accent, I mean both of them 😊

Forest Ferret

This episode breaks my heart and I cry every time. But YAY for Crowley! One of my favourite characters from any show I've ever seen.

Jess

What a pairing of episodes haha from belly laughs to ugly crying 😭

Julie

ugh this episode hurts :( jo and ellen died in such a badass way though, and at least they were together. the moment between jo and dean at the end is sooo tender and hard to watch bc its just so raw and emotional. i saw them more as brother/sister but the kiss at the end was sweet and fit the moment for sure. other than that…i LOVE the way luficer is portrayed in this show! mark pellegrino is so captivating on screen and his nonchalantness and dry humor is just too good. while he’s a horrible horrible character, i cant help but love his mannerisms and his wittiness...it’s so eerie and unsettling. he comes off as a casual dude but the way he so easily is able to try to manipulate both sam and castiel by relating to them is terrifying. but as a viewer you can’t help but sort of agree with him in the way he can identify with them! so he said the colt can kill all but 5 creatures so i think we’re meant to assume that’s the 4 archangels (lucifer, michael, raphael, gabriel) and god. and we’ve introduced crowley!!! season 5 is just sooo good :)

Amanda

okay rip Ellen and Jo :( but I need to point out one thing about the sealing deals with a kiss. John and Azazel definitely kissed when they made their deal, not a chance Azazel would just skip it. I think this was something the creators didn't consider when adding the kissing thing in season 2

Elisia

I know Jo and Ellen tend to get all the attention for this episode, but my heart just breaks for Sam. The scene with him being forced to confront Lucifer, especially after the colt is fired, you can just feel Sam's anger, but underneath you cand FEEL his terror. Jared does phenomenal at making the 6'4 Moose look like a scared little kid, especially in his scenes with Lucifer. Also, can we just appreciate Cas 'You will NOT take Sam Winchester' tiel? We know that Cas protects Dean. We know he will fight for him. But this is one of the first times we see him so defensive about Sam. From "Sam Winchester, the boy with the demon blood" to defying the devil himself to protect his friend- because they are friends now, and Cas loves Sam- this character growth for Cas is so underrated!

Charging Thunder

I forgot how soon in season 5 this happened, so I didn't realize what episode this was till half way through

Elisia

Not sure if anyone else has said this, but the reason Bobby took, and burned the picture, is so that they could do a hunter's funeral. Because they didn't have Ellen and Jo's bodies to give shrouds and pyres to, they used the photo instead. It's the hunter's way of saying goodbye, and honoring a fallen hunter

Lucy

Absolutely - and Azazel forced Mary to kiss her own father when she made her deal, so we know he sealed his deals with a kiss, and enjoyed making it as depraved as possible. He definitely would have forced John to kiss the demon who murdered his wife.

LilyLane

This is one of the worst episodes in the series. Also, this is one thing where Supernatural shines, side characters and you really feel for them.

Barb

now that is not what makes the show misogynistic. and i don’t care that dean is a playboy. in fact the way he is with women creates great character studies for him imo. it’s also not an attack on the characters, it’s just How they write the characters bc their view on women comes shining through. it gets better later on, since this show was in the early 2000s to 2020. you can literally watch the times change through the show. but tbh if we disgree on the show being misogynistic there’s nothing to talk about bc we just won’t agree in general then. i didn’t even know ppl still tried to argue on it Not being misogynistic but if that’s your opinion 🤷🏻‍♀️

ashley kuate

Who viewed Jo as a little sister to Dean? The audience? Because the writers definitely didn't portray her character in that manner. Dean flirted with Jo from the get go, but he was in a pretty bad place when they met which was just after John died, which he told her. But there was a lot of flirting going on, especially from her end. Even in this episode, he literally gives her the whole "last night on earth" speech, because he wanted to get in her pants. I don't care much for the romance either because I know this isn't that type of show, but where Jo and Ellen are concerned, there was literally no reason to write them out. The writers were just pandering to a huge part of the fandom that wanted them (more especially Jo) gone. And women can be misogynistic too...it's internalized misogyny, so it really doesn't matter if majority of the fandom is predominantly female. The show in itself is misogynistic in a lot of ways, but that's a topic for another day. However, if female characters are rejected because they interfere with the male characters' relationships/fandom fantasies, and the writers respond by removing those women, that's pretty much a misogynistic dynamic

Barb

yes! also the fact that their dynamic seems more friendship/sibling esque but they still try to turn their relationship romantic/sexual is kind of exactly what i’m talking about. they didn’t have to write the last night on earth” moment between them (even tho her rejection to him was hilarious and humbling) - especially if according to eric kripke it was more friendship/sibling coded. why was it needed?

KatieBee

Every time I saw how much you guys loved Ellen and Jo I couldn't help but think about how this was coming and it made me so sad every time just knowing we would see your hearts get broken soon 😭

B-dad

Crowley loves to kiss old men. He’s the demon version of me 😱😂😜❤️

B-dad

I mean being objective the bug episode was the worst but this one sure is heartbreaking if that’s how you meant it!

ShaquanVirse

Saying this is one of the worst episodes when seasons 6-15 have some of the most dog shit episodes known to tv

Anita

Crowley (Mark Sheppard) was in Charmed 5x5! Witches in Tights. As the demon Arnon!

Isaac

Ok Huggybear.

Amanda Tardin

I'm bawling my eyes out omg it's such a good episode even tho i still hate how they came back just to get killed

Amina

I love Sergio vogueing at the kiss at the beginning 😂 added some much-needed levity before the show breaks my heart (once again)

ashley kuate

Okay, i'm saying this in the most respectful way possible, the misogynistic part isn't "they killed a woman," it's why and how the decision got made. Jo was introduced as a potential romantic interest for Dean. A chunk of the fandom didn't like that, said there was no chemistry and basically didn't want her around. Instead of just quietly dropping the romantic angle and letting her exist as a hunter in the world, the writers wrote her out entirely, and then permanently killed her, along with Ellen, the other woman closely tied to Dean. That's the dynamic...a female character becomes unpopular specifically because she interferes with what fans want for a male character, and the response is to erase her, not just from the romance plot, but from existing at all. Her value to the story got measured entirely by how she affected Dean's fan-favorite dynamics, and once she stopped serving that role well, she had no reason to exist in the writers' eyes either. That's what makes it misogynistic rather than just a normal character death...because her narrative worth was never independent of a man's story, and the second she became a liability to fan sentiment around him, she was disposable. It doesn't require every writer to be consciously sexist. It's a structural thing, the show consistently treats female characters as extensions of the male leads' arcs rather than people with independent stakes, so when fans revolt against a female character for "getting in the way," the writers side with protecting the male character's fan appeal over keeping her around. And I don't think there's anyone who can say they think that Gordon's death was "racist" because there was never a backlash built on "we don't like Gordon near Dean, get rid of him." That's the whole distinction. Gordon's story stands on its own. Jo and Ellen's ending was shaped by fan backlash to their proximity to Dean, and the writers caved to that by killing them off entirely instead of just letting them exist. I rest my case because if you still can't understand my point then idk what to tell you

Madison Cooper

Crowley is a catch!! Yall are going to enjoy him!

Caitlin K

Before even starting, I don't know if I can handle this episode again 😭

AJ

Fuuuuuuuuck how are we at THIS episode already :[

Chantal

She really does 💜

LilyLane

That what I meant by "worst". It's the one episode I do want to skip, but its those that nails it in being very heartbreaking. Its a love-hate thing.

Jennifer

Yes! Enter Crowley! One of my favorites.

Alex Montrose

I remember when this was originally airing. This is back in the era when DVD's were huge and I used to listen to every single commentary. So by now I was starting to get the way Eric Kripke's sick genius works. And after the string of lighter, more meta episodes that we had been getting in a row, my spider sense started tingling. Cause I KNEW it was him buttering us up. And oh boy was he. Don't get me wrong, this season is FIRE and some of my personal favorite moments in the entire Supernatural are coming up. But this episode is and will always be a nut punch. I will say, I love that we got to see some badass Cas in this episode. But that might just be cause he is my favorite character after Dean.

L84reality

And Crowley 💕💕💕 (btw he was in an episode of charm too 😉)

Elise H. (XxXIllegirlARMYXxX)

Can you change the name of it? bc that's kinda a spoiler for them, let them experience it first on their own please 😊🙏

Melanie Vaudrin

For the 5 things, I always assumed he was referring to himself, the 3 arch angels and God. Can't kill them with anything as simple as a universal gun.

Io Eurodyne

Fictional men in 00's (all time periods really) shows get thrown away and killed all the time so there's no difference. You probably feel a kind of way because there aren't as many women in the show overall and you want them all to be important recurring characters despite the show just being about two people. For the style of the show it makes no sense to have the main characters spend valuable runtime fulfilling a commited relationship (for those who wanted a relationship) while actively hunting. That's also why John, Bobby and Castiel never take up that much screentime. Also for these big grudge matches especially there's always self sacrifice and the guys can't fo it without a way to bring them back (that wasn't happening this time) and the list of hunters (mostly men) the boys know is basically zero because of how many of them have died for them. You wanted some male extras to be introduced in this episode to die instead to feel better about yourself?

ashley kuate

Feel better about myself? What? Did you even read my comment? This isn't about Jo and Ellen being killed off. It's about HOW and WHY they were killed off. We're five seasons in and at this point I've already accepted that there won't be that much recurring female characters, so this isn't about that.

KiwiJello

OMG! This episode crushed me. Sergio, I feel it. I was crying right along with you.

Jbug

I never forgot this episode! As soon as I saw the the name I was not looking forward to it 😭 first time I've rewatched it ever! I hated losing them they deserved longer on the series, they felt like family when they were all together. However I do love that Crowley IS FINALLY here...

Meg

Absolutely devastating episode. I literally cry every damn time I see it. OTOH: Yesssss now all my most favorites are here! Meg interacting with Lucifer causes me large emotions I choose not to share at this time.

Meg

Pansexual villainy my beloved

geekygiraffe

I considered that but I also wondered if the Horsemen were included as a whole? Since they are unkillable in general

geekygiraffe

Yes! I always took it this way too, they didn't have bodies to burn and give a hunter's funeral. So they burned the photo because it was the last thing they had of them

Barb

don’t even bother responding anymore ashley

Anthony

Unlocked Character - Crowley! Jo looking good in that dress! 🔥 Bobby calling them Idjits and now Crowley calling then Morons! Sharp as cue balls these 2 😂 Yea it’s great to see Cas being a human and not a serious Angel Dean has always been about Jo he was just being respectful and maybe fearful of Ellen, I guess her in those jeans were enough for him to forget that lol But damn Jo was cold for her response 🥶 Group picture 📸 great that you guys joined 😀 Castiel willing to die for Sam when he first met him he didn’t even wanna shake his hand! The last look Dean and Jo gave each other!! 😢 Noooo Jo and Ellen 😭 Hard disagree that there weren’t any romantic vibes between Jo and Dean. Maybe on first watch it might seem like that but I’ve always felt they both liked each other romantically.

gloomygraveyardgirl

I love Crowley honestly. Mark Sheperd is just so charismatic and fun. Also This episode gives us some of the most iconic Cas shots. The shot of Castiel spying on Crowley and the transition of Castiel from the street into the window

Kathryn Loveless

I worked in Carthage, Missouri for 10 years and while the set location they use is not Carthage, the pro jesus sign next to an adult superstore is very on brand for the area.

Kathleen Kelly

This episode maybe amazing but heartbreaking I have to admit when I rewatch supernatural I tend to skip this episode cuz it’s to sad Jo was one of my favourite characters and Ellen as well and they survived so much

Rebecca Hopkins

And now begins what I refer to as, “the unholy bad ass reign of the one and only legendary extraordinaire Crowley”. Or as Ozzy Osbourne once referred to him “Oh Mr. Crowley” 😂. Ok, I’ll be leaving now.

Miss Maya

I will NEVER stop being pissed of by how they killed off Ellen and Jo! funny how its always female characters that get used as expandable fodder for emotional impact

Misty_Dawn

This episode gets me every time! I was crying right along with yall, and I’ve seen this episode a million times now.. I’m a mother of two daughters, that look just like Jo, and the same age too, and I always put myself in Ellen’s shoes and I just lose it every time.. what a beautiful performance by the women in this episode! 🥺❤️❤️ I need a hug now.. 🥲😅

Misty_Dawn

Yes, this episode is/was the mid season finale btw. 🫶🏼

Kiedra Gerl

This episode breaks me every time. I had to call my mom and tell her I loved her after the 1st time I watched it. I cant believe the actresses never won an award for this.

Becca

I love Crowley. This is one of the most devastating episodes of the series for me, though. RIP Jo and Ellen!

Kate M.

I'm sitting here SOBBING at Ellen and Jo's deaths and THIS is why I don't rewatch this episode. (Glad I had parasocial company for it this time.)

Megan

He was in an episode of Monk too (very memorable one for me).

Kimberly S. (Rawr)

Crowley! 🖤 The slow motion zoom in on Cas watching the deal get sealed 😂 Yes Jo working a case with the boys again. “Hey, you’re functioning morons” Dean please 💀 Crowley was definitely bringing the sass. He really clowned the boys 😂 Love Cas taking shots with Ellen & Jo & the gang hanging out. The picture 💚 There were SO MANY reapers! 🤯 Not Cas being trapped by Lucifer. Meg armed with hellhounds! Jo saving Dean! Those hellhounds are brutal. Ugh this was such a rough episode. My heart hurts for Ellen & Jo 😭💔 Oof not the Colt not working! Lucifer‘s ritual was so dark. Cas using Meg to escape! 🙌🏼 Another horseman on the loose 😳 Oof that ending with the burning photograph. Morale is definitely at an all time low right now. This one hurt. Never fails to open the floodgates. I agree that I never saw romantic vibes between Dean & Jo. Such a somber episode but appreciate your thoughts & reaction 🖤

mingidimple

Not really relevant, but- Dean and Jo's "romantic" moments always made me uncomfy BC they physically look so much like brother and sister to me, even their dynamic gave me more of a siblings vibe...

Ellorna

I will never forgive the network & the writers for giving into the more psychotic voices of the fandom when they made the decision to kill off Jo, and by extension, Ellen, cause of the people who wanted to imagine themselves with Dean and/or Castiel with Dean cause it was their headcanon bs. Jo and Dean were supposed to be our endgame and we got it ripped away cause people can't separate their own fanfic/shipping headcanon bs from the actual show canon.

Ellorna

Why would you want to stay on a show where a portion of the fandom said truly horrible stuff cause you were brought on as a love interest of a main character? The killing off of women characters on this show aside, this wasn't that - the actress was bullied and sent hate mail and other vile things - and they shouldn't have to write out a plot cause some people are delusional about a fictional character. They should've just continued with the plot and told them to go suck eggs.

Missy Coffman

My heart was breaking for you the whole opening knowing what was coming. I remember watching these as they aired and losing Jo and Ellen ripped my heart out.
