Thank you for the support! You guys and grrls are awesome!

Frix's mistake her is telling Sydney it's probably okay to mix and match. I mean, the pool of possible selections is already huge. Let's say there's 1,000 humanoid spacefaring species in the Milky Way, and Sydney could reasonably be disguised as maybe 350 of them, given they're trying to roughly match her dimensions and she requires cuteness and probably doesn't to pretend to be a child. Actually, let's say there's only 100 that match those criteria, especially on the cuteness front, like she doesn't want to be some plantigrade stick insect thing that has a reasonable amount of its population in the five-foot range. That's still SO MANY choices, because within each viable species disguise, there's a bunch of variation - I mean, she could just disguise herself as a different looking human woman. Given the things I've brought up about body language that different cultural or national backgrounds can impart and how that would add a layer of complexity to aliens trying to disguise themselves as humans and vice versa, a human disguising themselves as a different human is probably the smartest way to go.

But then, they're not trying to fool people who know them, or even anyone who even knows who they are or are off-planet. They just need to be able to mingle in crowds

Then on top of that, telling her she can add antlers or those moth-fern-antenna things as eyebrows or something? Frix, you might be a mighty space adventurer, but you do not have that kind of endurance.

This is all assuming Sydney doesn't want to try being a guy for the next however long this trip is going to take. No really being a guy, of course. The haptic feedback of these glowbods isn't on that sort of level. But just for experimenting socially, it could be an option. Granted it adds a layer of complexity to a situation she hasn't exactly trained for in the first place. They're not trying to infiltrate a given species's society, but walking down the thoroughfare and someone who is of the species you've disguised yourself as walks past and taps three fingers to their chin, do you return the gesture? Tap your cheek? Forehead? Tap 4 fingers? Two? Again, they're not exactly trying to infiltrate German occupied France, but best to keep odd behavior to a minimum.

Cutness Is Mandatory!

Nicholas Cordero

It'd be really funny if she ended up looking like Lapha's current avatar

Andrew Denton

Gasp! Sydney! Surely you don't dislike Day of the Tentacle? 🥺

tsukiouji

As someone who takes at least a week to make even a starter WoD character, I get it

Derek Leader

Panel six could be Freyja from Stargate SG-i. She's cute.

Czarzhan

Choice paralysis in character creation: I know this Hell.

You_With_The_Face

Love that the Eldritch form has glasses on each of the eyes

Chibi Woofies~!!!

If your going to get into body language, you have a world of hurt, like apparently for cia training, one has to learn not to "lean". Americans apparently tend to lean on one foot or the other or objects a lot more than other cultures. Plus they tend to pace more and just take up more room. Hence it's usually easier to employ locals if one wants to blend in.

Autoskip

…I was just about to start typing suggesting that they just get her to use an actual remotely piloted avatar frame instead of a potentially risky glowbod, but then I remembered that she’s there for her orbs, and I don’t think those would work with her not actually being there. Oh! They should check if the Com Orb’s telepresence is compatable with glowbods - we know it projects her clothes, but do hard light projections count?

There are more than 100 billion stars in the Milky Way. If there are only 1,000 humanoid species, they are extremely rare -- one in 100 million stars. The problem with SF & astronomy scales: Just the galaxy alone is bigger than you could possibly deal with. If there's one intelligent species in a hundred star systems, there are a billion intelligent species.... (Note that most stars are in binary and trinary systems, so there are roughly half as many star systems as there are stars. That doesn't really change the math very much.)

Town Crier

Dude, just make her a Wargex-Coo, 5th sex. You know that's what you really want, and she'll love it.

Wyrmhand

How about a Wednesday Addams kind of look?

Stephen Gilberg

I say go with the first option for simplicity.

Sharien

agreed - is it even a proper RPG if character creation doesnt take you ages? XD

Teksura

Actually, having her present as a child isn't a bad idea. It explains away some of her eccentric behaviors that typically stand out.

Justaguy

Considering that (like me) Sydney probably also does EVERY side-quest, the time to complete the main quest is, I imagine, LONG.

Thisguy

For this job, the idea is to blend in. To avoid notice. To look so much like one of the crowd that no one suspects you're anyone else. Of course, Sydney's mission is largely to provide an express portal back to earth if needed. She could probably stay on the ship, but really, if they have to leave the ship a fair distance away, all Sydney needs to do is be contactable within about five minutes of the rest of her team. So, hang around in Maxima's support pit or whatever. ... I got distracted. Oh yeah, that was my point! Anyway, Sydney being Sydney, It may be best to find a species which is known to act weird, in order to help cover for Sydney acting weird.

Hugh Eckert

I used to TTRPG with someone who had to be arm-wrestled into committing to almost anything about their character, including their name.

Just a guy

Considering Sydney's past interests, as well as the regeneration vat side comic, I'm surprised Sydney isn't pushing for a 'bustier' disguise. It would give her a place to hide her orbs.

AlpineBob

KISS! Keep It Simple, Stupid! Which is to say, from Cora we already know there are humans in space. Sydney already, mostly, knows how to be a human. So, it will be easiest to keep her human looking.

MD

kobold clearly the best

Alan Lewis

Now I really want to see a female woof.

eddi_TBH

Panel 5 all eyes are on Sydney. Does Frix have one to make her all ears?

akrasia

You realize you have now opened the door for tentacle porn, where Sydney is the tentacle?

IvyReed

Every eye gets its own glasses, you get a glasses, and you get a glasses!
