Thank you for the support! You guys and grrls are awesome!

The obvious drawback is the constant pregnancy, mood swings, weird food cravings, not being able to drink alcohol or gargle mercury, and oh yeah, the part with a human being ripping its way out of your genitals. Trust me, Maxima immediately brought up all those points,(okay, not the mercury bit) and Sydney immediately derailed her with "What kind of food cravings?" and Max was like, "You know, like pickles and ice cream, or..." and Sydney was all, "Well, that sounds gross, but if I'm craving it... It'd probably be good, right?" And things devolved from there.

The (solid) holograms they were wearing didn't just magically appear on them. They were (obviously, based on this page) being projected from those spandex-ish zentai suits. Sydney wasn't wearing one when she was trying out disguises earlier cause she was standing in a projection booth. That's what those sparkly blue panels were. Also the holoplinth. That mostly just projects the image on the bottom of your feet and undercarriage. And underboob, sometimes, depending on how much vertical occlusion certain body parts might otherwise provide.

This will probably be the only page I'm going to draw them in those outfits, because I spent so much time trying to warp that pattern to their contours. It bugs me when you see a manga and the girls are wearing tartan pleated skirts, and instead of the pattern following the pleats, it's just a flat texture overlaid over the skirt. You can kind of get away with it on a non-pleated skirt, or a cape or something, as long as it's hanging limp and not flapping in the wind. But on a shirt? Sleeves never line up with the torso pattern, and if it's a long-sleeve shirt and the person is bending their elbow, a flat, laid in texture looks terrible. I don't know how much attention people pay to that. As an artist, I know it bugs me. I will admit that a lot of it depends on the art style. As the realism and detail goes up, the more important it is to contour textures and pay attention to folds and stuff.

So, yeah, this is probably the last time they'll appear in those.

Ok I'll bite; Why would anyone non-suicidal and of sound mind gargle mercury?

Thank you making sure the pattern fits. it looks so cool too. but definitely agree on the realism goes up so does the need for details

Repeating textures in manga were originally done with cut out foil so warping them around contours was impossible. And I guess the style stuck. I notice it but it doesn't bother me.

Taut, not taught.

Okay... I had my suspicions, but it's official. Freckled Harem is my favorite (damn she's cute.)

Sydney, Sydney, Sydney. No-one said that they were going to be SKILLED lovers.

You can have looks or geek skillz, Sydney; the combination of the two is rare as winter roses (Olivia being that winter rose in this case). At least the mole aliens dug you (flees room)

You_With_The_Face

At least the guys realize they kinda crossed a line. Self-awareness is a valuable trait

I'm assuming those suits have zippers or flaps or something. Because I know Frix and Sydney had some fun earlier.

It's amusing that you refer to pattern just being a flat pattern instead of following contours bugging you. A good friend for her book cover had the description of her character wearing fishnets. The concept art for it had fishnets. The artist everyone knew about fishnets. Anyway when the art was finished everyone had approved it, and it was about 5 minutes away from the print deadline it was suddenly realised "Fuck! There's no fishnets on the legs! What happened!" They'd intended to do them later and then just forgotten and it'd all been skipped in the excitement. So a last minute overlay pattern was applied which if you LOOK you can see it doesn't contour right, but it's "good enough for government work" kind of thing.

SCA and HEMA are just two popular nerdy hobbies that absolutely contribute to "firm bodies" lol

LucasTheLost

Im suddenly craving some PPO action.

Nobody brings up the possibility that Mantellans couldn't impregnate a human? Of course, that has the downside of them losing faith in Sydney.

I haven't noticed too many of the flat overlay of patterns on clothes, may just be less than I expect there to be or most of the times they do something to blend it in better to the untrained eye, but I have noticed a few. Reminds me of the few animations I have seen where they had patterns for clothes as a static background and the clothes acted as a window to that background, so they would move and the pattern would stay still but the clothes would slide across the still pattern. Always found those odd.

How funny would it be if Max chooses Sydney's next disguise, and it creates even more trouble for them somehow :P

When it comes to those flat textures in mangas and such, I've noticed it. Some are more noticeable than others, and yeah, they tend to be rather annoying. It's actually part of why I tend to prefer the anime adaptation or the light novel original, if either option exists, as they rarely suffer from that problem. Sure, I'm not an artist, but I do have a decent eye for detail and I'm not that fond of having to ignore significant portions of the art just to keep from being annoyed by the laziness it shows.

…y’know, those hardlight projection could probably do direction dependant projections, which would mean that they could actually do the flat plaid overlayed on the shape of a shirt look…

Re: The pattern not following the contours - I've noticed that as well. and it also bugs me. The one I notice a lot though is the image on a screen in a movie or TV show, but it isn't *actually* there, they put it on the screen in post, and the angle is wrong - like the screen isn't square to the camera, but the image doesn't sit properly on the screen. It is especially noticeable with text. It's annoying. Also: typing with a cat that wants attention in your lap is surprisingly difficult. Just sayin'.

Or and here me out, they do appear in those suits again but in the most campy way possible leaning into all to all the bad ideas.

Thed Preston

Nitpick: Zentai suits cover the face. These are just catsuits with attached gloves and feet.

Hugh Eckert

I’d hate not being able to gargle mercury. 😉

Hi, I was just thinking - Isn't it about time Sidney had another power-up gem?
