Thank you for the support! You guys and grrls are awesome!

I may have mentioned this before, but for some reason, jokes about thinks being load-bearing always land with me. Probably because the only ones I've heard are absurdist. I think Brooklyn 99 did one about a balloon arch being load-bearing. Knees are, evolutionarily speaking, load-bearing. All bones are, really. Maybe not the skull, or the lower mandible. I suppose that depends on how you define "load." But knees are inarguably load-bearing, so my little joke meets my own standard for being absurdist, therefore, I made myself laugh with this one.

Also, not to keep patting myself on the back, but "the most structurally reinforced of women's knees" (which is an awkward sentence, but I think it's grammatically correct?) also makes me laugh, because, yes, of course, there are such things as knee braces and in the advanced galaxy, powered armor, but the first thing my mind conjures is something like a woman wearing 6 pairs of pantyhose, or some kind of stocking and garter and flying buttress affair.

In some settings, dragon fire would be just some napalm-ish goo stored in a gland and it's lit by the dragon clicking their teeth together when they have some flint stuck between their molars. That sort of biological dragon can account for the acid and chlorine breathers, but doesn't allow for the kind that breath lightning or "cold." In magical dragon settings, there's probably more to the breath weapons than some goo in a gland. So dragons would probably have a name for it that sounds cool. Soulfire was the best I could come up with. Which probably happened at a Dragon council meeting, and the Red and Gold and Magma dragons were like "I guess "SoulFire" is the best we can come up with." And all the other dragons who breathe cold or tornadoes or avalanches or starlight or whatever were all "No! It must be inclusive! EnergyForge!" "What are we? Dwarves?" "How about DragonCore!" "Ug, that sounds like an exercise trend for douchey nobles and High Elves." "Okay, fine, SoulFire it is, but must we do intercaps?" "The Time Dragon says it will be easier to Duck Duck Go, whatever that means."

Space dragons have astronomically large egos

akrasia

Say it with me, "Low Profile! Maintain Disguise!"

Whoriar

Wait until he finds out that Max is gold plated (?)

Nicholas Fletcher

I mean electric eels use goo for high voltages, so assuming a lightning dragon's saliva is a little extra conductive and their mouth tissue is and insulator they could "breathe" lightning with enough voltage and it just follows wherever they spit at. For cold they could have a glad that makes highly compressed hydrocarbon gas(ses) and an airway that puts the stream into a concentrated laminar flow, pretty easily sub zero breath as the concentrated hydrocarbons decompress (actually that could even work for the fire dragons, the only difference between the cold and hot dragons is one carries an ignition source for their hydrocarbons and the other doesn't).

Michael Obert

I get that Max is intrigued, as one gold-plated armored cannon would be toward another, but I really do want to see her punch him into space. Good job reminding him of his job, Cora

Ilana Writes

I can not wait for Max to kick his butt. lol

Shade Jones

I like the dichotomy between the first and fifth panel. First one is "you're kidding me, right?" But fifth is "Wait, really? You were serious?" He's super interested in Egoma now

Brett Peirce

That's what the kids are calling it these days ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Martin Drkoš

His biceps rip the most elastic of shirts.

Andrew Denton

He really is similar to Deus, isn't he. Just Max's type.

John Clary

In the Pern books to "breathe" fire the dragons had to eat a certain kind of rock that lets them burp a pyrophoric gas that ignited with contact with air.

Gelatinous Cube

You know, I'm with Sydney in panel 4 with the elbow spikes. Is that an actual evolutionary thing? At least it's better than elbow fins like on some fish people. I mean, WTF? What the hell would elbow fins be for? Forearm fins make sense, but elbow fins? Again, WTF?

Vanestus

What's going on with Sydney's arm in that fourth panel, it looks oversized and the fingers almost look flattened out or something.

Vanestus

Wait nevermind, I see that she is touching one of his arm spikes now, my bad.

David Chuhay

She’s poking the spike at the dragon guy’s elbow. The colors are similar enough that it looks like her finger’s flat and long. If you can, try zooming in on that area and it should become clearer

davebarrack

Clearly the circle of trust is about to grow a bit.

William Elliott

"DragonCore" could get confused with "DemonCore" or "THE Demon Core" after all...though they did call playing with it "tickling the tail of the dragon"

Richard Riley

Elbow fins should be rigid and spikey, they are supposed to keep predators from eating your arm.

Richard Riley

We might be on the CW. Everyone is super pretty and no one can keep a secret for more than 20 seconds. :)

Themew

Awww~! He's MATH in Dragon Form~! <3!

Anton Schleef

Not just that, but they had a special second stomach for processing those phosphene bearing rocks to release the ideal gas for their fire breath. Of course, when they genetically engineered the dragons from the fire lizards they did an edit to the genetic code so that the golds lacked the required second stomach and that processing those rocks would make the greens infertile.

Anton Schleef

I'm just hoping the tickets are at a reasonable price. It's going to be a spectacular, if one-sided, show. And a reminder for him as to _why_ he trusts Cora so much.

Otoger

Reign of Fire dragons had two Gaseous chemicals they mixed as their breath that burned

MaxBigfoot

In the Elder Scrolls - Skyrim, the explanation for all the different breath effects is that they're just casting shouts in Dragonish, so a fight between dragons, despite what it looks like, is just a very loud argument.

Eric Loken

Dude, you probably just lost whatever extremely remote chance you had. If he wasn't about to make dinner, Max should walk up and say "I'm going to punch you really hard now. Ready?" and then give him a punch that his grandkids will feel. Maybe after dinner.

eddi_TBH

He is right. Dragons are whole 'nother level of trouble. Cora will need to swear him to secrecy and show Gaxgy a highlight reel of Max in action.

eddi_TBH

Max knows he's talking to the disguise not her. An overconfident Stygian, not a space cruiser wrecking metahuman.

eddi_TBH

Math might go easy on him for that, Gaxgy would still lose as soon as Math mapped his nerve clusters.

eddi_TBH

A back smash with a spiky elbow would hurt like the dickens. Even to another dragon.

eddi_TBH

It's easy when you are the top of (most) food chains.

Jared

He's done the math, the problem is he was given the wrong equation. And Max breaks most equations.

doug guenther

Re: commentary Buffy S7:E5 14:53 "...load bearing Bar Matron..." (one of their finest dialogues)

Mark Magagna

There's a certain size beyond which I doubt Math can press hard enough to activate those nerve clusters. I mean I doubt he could do anything at all to Gojira for example. But I don't think Gaxgy is in that size class.

Mark Magagna

Yeah, that was all about making a fantasy creature into something that *could* fit in a science fiction story that doesn't have so-called magic. Never mind the telepathy, the 60s and 70s were big on calling magic "psionics". This probably reached its peak with Julian May's Saga of Pliocene Exile.

Mark Magagna

If they don't, I think the shoulder spikes would anyway.

Mark Magagna

Electric eels have the huge advantage of being in a medium that is much better at conducting electricity than air.

Eric Loken

True, but I bet he'd be even more arrogant if she was in her natural form; gold skin, pointy ears, purple hair, and all. Without *seeing* her power, he will dismiss her as small and weak.

eddi_TBH

Then he will earn her "Atomic Twister Punch" set on 7.

Jared Juetten

He's gonna be REAAAL upset when he finds out the lil' mole girl can also beat him in a fight.

akrasia

What the devil is going on in panel 6? Does he have retractable fingers??
