Thank you for the support! You guys and grrls are awesome!

You know, for an unlimited class tournament, this is all pretty low-key so far. Max's previous round started off with quite a bit more action, but maybe it'll escalate. Probably not to One Punch levels of chopping 1/20th of the Earth off, or nuclear explosion punches so much. As much as I enjoy that level of absurdity, the Grrl -verse is at a slightly lower power level. Admittedly, the apocalypse level attacks do register harder when you can draw a high fidelity long shot of a city buckling under the shock waves, and I can't really do that. I mean, maybe if I had 40 hours to work on a single panel, but I think around hour 32 I'd just stab myself in the temple with the stylus.

But who knows what will go down during the finals?

Honestly the lower scale of power is something I like about the story. Everything still feels like it’s at a level contained to a city, doesn’t hit the continental level that some worlds start to lose the plot in and don’t get me started on the worlds that go into higher levels of bullshit.

Nathan Wilson

I'm in agreement. When you make characters too strong for "cool factor" you start to lose on the stability of the universe as a whole. It can make it hard for me to root for stories in that universe when characters can destroy whole planets at will.

That mirror trick works best when the original is invisible and sneaking away

All of the other contenders are fobbing Max off on this guy, hoping he will soften her up. D'UH! Idiot should be using his magic staff [ASSUMPTION MADE!]. That seemed to have had the most effect on her last round.

Town Crier

Who says that it isn't happening right now?

The thought bubble points to the real one.

Even an actual multiplication move won't do much good against someone who knows a good area attack.

Not entirely clear what she did, but I am impressed regardless.

The Qualifier rounds had KAIJU and giant robots. pretty sure Nukes and such are very much on the table... In fact given what we have seen of Maxima unless she meets some opposition able to play at that level then she's just not gonna have much of a challenge me thinks?

Anton Schleef

And that thought bubble explicitly mentions that the spell only created 5 images, not the 10 it was supposed to. With 6 'copies' of him present that means that one of them has to be the real one regardless.

Anton Schleef

It's not just a D&D standard anymore, it has become an RPG standard in general. Though, creating clones is much more effective when attacking a fake results in a powerful counterattack, while hitting the original dissipates all of them. It makes the 'nuke 'em all' response much less effective. I've played a couple of RPGs that did that, and going with the 'nuke 'em all' response either lead to a dead party member or a straight up Game Over from a party wipe.

Anton Schleef

No, the correct (under comic) line here would be "Don't bring a mirror image spell to an area-of-effect techniques fight." Well, unless hitting the mirror images causes an extremely devastating counter attack against whomever hit it, particularly if all of the images counters can strike the same target if said target used an AoE to nail all of them at once. Not that I think such an advanced version of a mirror image spell would be useful against Max, but it would make him look a lot less stupid for using that spell in an Unlimited Class tournament.

Look up Project Plowshare. It was a government proposal to use underground nuclear explosions to reshape the landscape. Think about creating a pass through a mountain range, one boom at a time. I don't think it was ever actually tested with nukes, but it's an extension of using explosives in mining. And that's what Max did. One of her energy blasts into the ground, explodes in the bedrock, shatters the surface. Fun!

JasonAW3

Yeah, her opponent is about to have a seriously bad Monday...

Also agreed, the ridiculous power level ones where superman is a wimp are just, well, ridiculous. And when it starts out at one level and then there is the constant power escelation to the point of "it's over 9000! No one is that powerful" and then in that episode later that is beaten without thought, that is even more ridiculous. Just makes me move onto something else.
