Thank you so much for the support! You guys and grrls are awesome!

It is a little rich for Sydney to be complaining about insipidity. Though I think that Gail and Bluce's banter might quality more as banality. It's the kind of pablum you'd hear in the back and forth during a Thanksgiving day parade. It's splitting hairs. Sydney just really dislikes this particular brand of low effort, forced enthusiasm, where you can see the announcers die a little inside as they lob out each network approved humor nugget.

I had considered making Centurus a finalist, but the idea of drawing a hundred meter long flying AC-13o centipede with six-hundred guns was just not realistic. If I could have built it in Blender... after learning how to use Blender... then yeah, that would have been cool. But it's honestly outside of my skillset. Or really, outside of my allotted production schedule. It would take me a very long time to draw a close-up panel with, let's say 6 miniguns, cannons, and whatever the medium sized guns are, all connected to a mecha bug thing. I'd like to think it'd take most people a long time to draw that, but some artists really excel at fiddly, technical drawings. I assume those people are bad at drawing mountains, or dogs, or something else to balance things out.

I have to say, I would have liked to see what that anthro kangaroo boxer could do that carried him all the way to the semi-finals. I mean, imagine that he had to fight someone like Mt. Atrocitous or that Kill-7 mecha. But that's for a different timeline.

The burning question I know you all have is, are Atheons all demi-gods? Well, first you have to define lower-case-g "god," and that's more complex than it seems at first glance. Dabbler will probably have a discussion about that with Sydney at some point. She claims to have killed "gods" plural. She counts one dude that was mid-ascension, I think she mentioned that in comic early on? But she still counts it. So yes, by some definitions, Atheons are all demi-gods. Certainly by their own definition they are.

Odds are if you're proclaiming yourself a god, then no, but that doesn't mean one can't pack a god-wallop.

A.C.R.O.N.Y.M.

Missing an 'is' in the Orthvye bubble: "it looks like he [is] riding"

Torabi

Missing a word in the final sentence of panel 5 as well: "her spot in [the] final match!"

Magraal

"Sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from a miracle" So, if your tech (and/or magic, probably both are necessary in this instance) is sufficiently powerful enough that most other races are incapable of adequate comprehension and/or comparison to their own capabilities, you are a lower-case god (which does obviously make our boy in the sweater a while back a god).

Magraal

By comparison, a capital God would presumably be a being who is partially or entirely powered by faith in some form, and would likely be fairly difficult to kill without first decimating their religion. That said, combat capabilities are not a requirement so they would not necessarily be more powerful than a lower case god.

Alex Peake

It came across to me as the same sort of banter in the Saints Row, Genki mini games. Which I guess is a parody of the network announcers in the first place...

Marc Vun Kannon

Real gods don't proclaim themselves. They just are. Whether others recognize that is irrelevant.

Jon Gibson

It would have been hilarious if you just had the centipede ship firing from off panel the second the match starts, then maxima just one taps it at the start of the fight.

Simon Magid

I might be getting out on a limb here but I don't think Dabbler likes Aetheons.

Town Crier

Roseryan strikes me as having a weakness for bling, especially religious-based bling. Maybe a trinket from Herod's or Tiffany's might distract them at a crucial moment.

That Harper Gal

Wait. Is it "Rose - eh - ree - an" or "Rose Ryan"?

Playwars

I always found it funny that Dabbler seems to have a complex with Angels. She seemingly has problems with them, but also lusts a lot after them.

Amusingly, 'Cannon' is probably the middle point English word. Gun is in the process of being masticated by the English language, but from a 'akshually' point of view, its a broad technical term for the kind of weapon in question. In, shall we say, casual usage, 'gun' (ala Machinegun) is for things less than about 1" caliber, with Cannon being for things bigger than that... except of course the Navy talks about "deck guns" when you are referring to say, the IOWA-class 16" monsters. TIL however that Chain Gun is a copyrighted term for a specific form of autocannon, coined by the makers of the 25mm M242 Bushmaster used on the Bradley IFV. Probably something similar with good ol' Gatling, I would hazard a guess.

In my head, these two commentators have the voices of the commentators from "Pitch Perfect" series. Everything that's said in their banter sounds like something those two would've said.

Palmvos

I think it would be faster to list what Dabbler doesn't lust after. Its entirely possible she could lust after something she hates.

Anton Schleef

Can you name anyone of an 'infernal' race who hasn't turned against their own kind that likes any kind of 'celestial' race? Much less those races that are nominally 'celestial' but powerful enough to consider themselves superior to all other 'celestial' races? Personally, I'd be more surprised if she found them the tiniest bit tolerable.

Anton Schleef

It would've definitely made it worth it getting into the finals.

davebarrack

Rhymes with "Gozerian" (go-ZARE-ee-an")

Hugh Eckert

I love how Heatwave got in a completely inadvertent dig on Dabbler in the last panel.

Anton Schleef

1) You forgot your "/s" to close your sarcasm. 2) As much as I enjoy a good bit of sarcasm, that was horrible as it was like expecting people to be surprised that fire and water don't mix well.

That Harper Gal

That's what I figured! But I wouldn't put it past you to have a character named, like. "Qzuueewyxxxeeiiannn", pronounced "Susan" 😜

He Who Must Drink Some Coffee

Once again I borrow a quote from Sir Pterry Pratchett: "Hatred is a form of attraction. Hate is just love with its back turned."

BoingDragon

I thought the kangaroo was a cameo from he Space Trawler comic.

Simon Magid

And you forgot to pull your head out of your arse.

Eric Loken

Seeing as some people - at least in fiction - seem to think simply having more power than everyone else around you makes you a 'god', I would say the definition of god is pretty loose. Personally I would say a god has to actually have some ability to influence the very universe or the fabric of reality, that sounds like a god to me, everyone else is just a wizard. Or less. And yes, that would make the Q gods. Seeing as Q was willing and able to rewrite history on a whim (whether the other Q would have let it stay that way is another matter), I think the definition fits. On another note: How does fire girl (I forget her name) there even manage to remember to breathe?

eddi_TBH

Beware of their followers though. They are a lot less secure

eddi_TBH

Heatwave? She's a little slow to pick up on sarcasm or other forms of lateral thinking.

Michael Strödick

Real gods? Ancient gods did exactly that and proclaimed their godhood... beside being the most childish beings. Yes! I'm looking at you, of the Greek pantheon! :-D
