Thank you for the support! You guys are awesome!

"Sydney! What did you do to the desert?!""As deserts are defined by the amount of rainfall they receive... technically I didn't change anything?"

So, Sydney had a bold plan, and enacted it. There's something to be said for decisive action, even if it's likely that a much better plan could have been envisioned at a future date with ample time for planning.

I'm not sure if the scale quite comes across like I wanted it to. The bottom panel started off as a screenshot from Google Earth, and I think that obsidian disk is like... 10 kilometers across? I know it looks like a jagged purple mess, but I actually spent a lot of time cutting out little bits and bobs here and there for roads and patches of farmland from the original screenshot. Sydney didn't want to actually fuck up any existing infrastructure, though she's probably caused some headaches for future development and will have definitely will have thrown off some grazing habits.

Tourist attraction wise, I would suggest naming it "Lake Scoville," or "The Scoville Cataclysm."

I mean, she ain't wrong, hopefully Deus doesn't take too much of an advantage on this minor ecological disaster

Alex

It's decisive. It gave something for Sydney to do. And there's no sand for the villain to grab. I don't see the problem with this considering they didn't have time to plan. I'm sure that Maxima will find some way to tell her she didn't do it right. She reminds me of a certain anime captain in space.

Whoriar

How much XP is Sydney gathering from this? She's using the pew-pew orb quite a bit but she's not killed that many foes (unless the thousands of small rodents, scorpions, various insects and the occasional camel counts...)

Foradain

Did Sydney just pick up a chunk of recently molten glass? Or is the PPO overheating?

Justaguy

Is she zooming along holding the pew pew orb and the shield orb?

Geron Raveneye

Only a roleplayer could think of realizing something that would aptly be named "The Obsidian Sea" on any given TTRPG setting map.😁

Foradain

And just what are the odd properties of Scovillite glass?

Seth Ruskin

Reflected sunlight? Gah!

Thisguy

Most people would be mad that a 5km radius has been turned to glass. Deus however… Is a glass half full guy. And this is a lot of glass.

Ryan C. Thompson

Looks like someone's familiar with the Halo lore.

Kizik Ucalegon

When do we find out he can still manipulate glass and this just made him a hell of a lot more dangerous?

Andrew

Polish that up and you’ve got the makings of a rather large telescope. Let’s call it the BFT.

Michael Obert

Fireball in the desert, baby. Old 2E D&D Glassing rules

LucasTheLost

Is anyone else hoping Maxima's shirt suffers a "tear along the dotted line" failure?

Absentia

Sometimes I forget that Sydney is about as strong as Max, if not stronger. And then she does stuff like this.

Jay

Dave, did you check if this is considered a war crime? At a minimum Deus is gonna be upset over the habitat loss with 10 square kilometers of desert turned to glass. Even Dunes support a surprising amount of biodiversity that Sydney just glassed. Edit: I just feel like Sydney has been extremely out of control for the equivalent of a Recruit/Private.

BJ

So much free Halo merch for Deus to sell.

BJ

You know, she just pulled a very covenant, from Halo, move by executing a glassing.

Doug Northcote

Sydney out in the desert quoting Patton (probably) without knowing it: “A good plan violently executed now is better than a perfect plan executed at some indefinite time in the future.”

Ian Brown

Post-battle should be Max assigning Syd to cleanup. Using the PPO to shatter larger chunks and then having to lighthook the chunks away to a safe zone for shattering and reincorporation to the area. Menial and repetitive busywork, much to the horror of Sydney's OCD. Little does she know Max is forcing her to level up the orbs further!

Eric Loken

In a crisis a functional solution is better than no solution, or even the best solution... that you don't have. And this was definitely a solution, if a tad extreme.

Tristan N Milner

I feel Anakin Skywalker would approve of Sydney's anti-sand stance.

Louis Richards

Okay, that's Halo's bright idea. What's Maxima's idea of something drastic?

eddi_TBH

I am both amused and terrified by Halo's action. It's easy to forget that raw power can be impressive, but raw power directed by a lateral thinking genius blows away all hope of defining "most powerful".

Polysanity

i love how Max's hair is being played with by the updrafts Syd's amateur gaffer work are causing. up until the final panel you don't know exactly why it's happening, but then it's all so awesome.

James Domec

Less a nipple and more a pasty.

D.A. Lamont

Literally glassed a country. 😏😈🔥

Kevin Wright

Oh, so the orb does have a limit! Or at least it (maybe all of them?) warms up when channeling energy.

Marc Vun Kannon

Probably visible from space. "No, not the big red dot, the small one, with the purple dot."

Marc Vun Kannon

Waiting for the sandstorm to come up behind her and fall down splat on the glass. Can't argue with success. Much.

John

Hmm, if we're talking about an actual sandstorm, and not just, for example, a tornado in a desert environment, that Glassing needs to be more like 100KM, and that would be just the width of the storm, not the area it gathered dust/sand from.
