Thank you for the support! You guys are awesome!

There's definitely some wires crossed in Sydney's brain, right?

So yeah. Cthillia is an anthropomorphic beholder of some flavor. That's "beholder" not "Beholder(C)" because Hasbro/Wizards of the Coast/D&D owns the copyright on "Beholders(C)." I thought they also held the copyright on Drow, but I looked it up but couldn't find anything to back that up. Not sure about Lolth. They've definitely (C)ed Carrion Crawlers, Displacer Beasts, Mind Flayers, and a few others. But as Cthillia is humanoid, I'm probably in the clear. All this isn't to say that she's a chaotic evil bipolar agoraphobe necessarily. She has eyestalks with powers and moderate budget for scale polish for sure, but her mental state and interpersonal skills are a little more up in the air.

Anyway. I had actually planned a far more dramatic reveal for her at some point in the near-ish future, but I couldn't really see how the current storyline would lead to what I'd originally imagined. Plus it's also super funny to me that Sydney just badgered it out of her.

Laura Light

it was the Babadook that did it, too silly.

Raphael

Is it me or are the colors of her eyes the same colors as Sydney’s orb ?

Arc Frisch

I hope Sydney not being horrified gives her pause later.

codesurfer

Wait has the comic given Cthillia pronouns yet, or is that a reveal in today's author comments?

Otoger

nice design but her top tooth looks a bit unfit for the rest

Peabody

Personage's eye colors change places on the right side of personage's face?

Thisguy

I love how the eyestalks fit into groves in the face for a sort of 'normal' appearance. Also, did not know that Cthillia was female. And yeah, Sydney's reactions have been haywire for a while now... possibly forever. She's alweays reacted more excited than freaked out, but her reaction to the supernatural and odd have definably been toned down somewhat.

Pheredhel

Im more wondering about that color match between the eyes and Sydney's orbs .. coincidence or not?

Sharien

cthillia looks pretty damn cool =)

Vanestus

Cthillia has a pretty sweet design.

TRwolf2k

I would have said, "The multi colored eyes looks cool dude."

Matt Parkent

They eye stalks denote that the species is prey rather than predator. I'd hate to see the thing that preys on them.

Kizik Ucalegon

I think they copywrote Illithid, but Mindflayer is genericized the same way "Space Marine" can't be copywritten but Adeptus Astartes can be.

Graeme Thorburn

Cthillia, did you really expect Sydney to react like a 'normal' after that conversation? Love that she gives her a hug after the sunglasses comment. That's Sydney alright. Lastly I like that there are the two rear facing eyestalks on the top of the head as well as all the others. Very interesting. Hopefully that headwrap of Cthillia's is one she can, at least partially, see through.

Michael Obert

There's an advantage in GURPs called Unfazeble. Sydney has the low point version of that where weird shit (she also having the Weirdness Magnet disadvantage) doesn't freak her out but other, more mundane stuff does

Gullindjemprins

Wonder why this reaction was so much more muted than her response to seeing the real Dabbler for the first time. Just getting jaded?

Crushogre

Honestly I don't see any reason why anyone who has had positive interactions with supernaturals or aliens would have a negative reaction to her appearance.

Jonathan Hamilton

I am wondering if Cith is a result of magical experimentation similar to the origin of sucubi. Also, really cool design!

Tannerbot

I seriously wonder if Sydney has mis-wired survival instincts, or if her time in space has really adjusted her definitions of "people"

Justaguy

Sydney coming in from a visit with the supernatural Heebies and their friends the Jeebies, via a run-in with several alien races at the hot-food-hub, goes "Cool look bro, how's the accessories market?"

Nathan Weber

Considering Sydney can add interstellar traveler to her list of accomplishments, I feel this situation is much too mundane for her.

Aclys

As far as copyrights go, Cthillia lacks a central, magic-negating, eye so that's another safety point. Cool design thou!

Ricky Mercer

I wonder if there is any significance to the fact the eyes match Sydney's orbs, minus one.

Kaelzaad (Grizz)

!!! I -love- her design! And what an innovative idea to put indentions in her skull to help keep her eyestalks close to her face, giving a more "humanoid" profile(more or less.) And all the different eye colours. What's not to like about this? Brilliant!

Town Crier

Hmm. beholder won't work. Missing two eye stalks and he big main eye. I was gonna suggest "Beauty", as it is in the eye of the beholder, but that joke's been done to death.

Town Crier

Maybe something more terrifying like, "Susan".

Ian Brown

So I haven't seen anyone hit on the fact that her eyes are similar in color and number so some certain objects.... EDIT: Scratch that. All the comments weren't loaded in the app...

JasonAW3

At this point, having fought daikaiju living weapons, met dozens of different aliens, paranormals, and sentient mechanoids, and is pretty much the most powerful non super on Earth, I'm pretty sure her xenophobia is kinda burnt out by now...

Adam C.

Also, Flumph (c), Slaad(c), Rust Monster (c) (there was actually a lawsuit on this one), Umber Hulk (c)...

William Elliott

but if she acted like a normal person, she wouldn't be the Sidney we know and love!

PSadlon

Given Cthilla’s beholder nature. I can see how her patience and mental stability would have suffered. Humans freaking out and judging her all the time. Given she doesn’t seem to know what she is and her low opinion of her self, she might have grown up not knowing. If so she may be an alien, as most of Dave’s “monsters” tend to be.

Kevin Wright

Sydney a) is steeped in internet culture and weirdness b) has learned that weird creatures really exists, and c) has been to outer space and *seen things*. Reacting like a normal person was never an option. I like the detail of the eyestalks having resting sockets along the head for "primarily forward" vision.

Darkstand

So.... looking at those eyes.... walking around with that hood must have been worse than walking around with an eyepatch on all the time Edir: For sufficiently broad definition of walking, mind

True

The question is, has Sydney's post joining Arc SWAT experiences just changed her baselight of normal or as a healthy diet of Star Trek Babylon 5 and similar shows completely desensitized her to appearances

Absentia

Bruh... she looks so fucking cool!!!

sjmcc13

Drow are actually based on myths, then only copyrighted completely original monsters.

Fogel

Poor Cthillia. So used to a life of being shunned that she can't quite accept that it's possible to be anything else

BJ

And now, she's a new Sydney harem member.

Gremlin

Sydney needs to offer Cthillia a trip to Fracture Station - one, clothes shopping options might be better there so sunglasses situation solved, two, no-one will look twice at her in a crowd that includes everything from giant bugs to weird robots.

Richard du Maine

Noone gonna call out the eye colors being similar to Sydney's orbs?

Tim Malmström

Aaaaawww, she's got beaver front teeeth!

Andrew Denton

So much for my Cthulhu -Godzilla hypothesis.

eddi_TBH

Sydney's unflappable attitude manifests at the oddest moments. As does her running in circles panic mode. I wonder id her ADHD has something to with it. Or is it vise-versa?

eddi_TBH

Flotilla seems to be clowning rather than actually scared/grossed out as well. Although maybe he has seen her unhooded before.

John C Butler

Heh. Cthillia isn't clued in that, A: Sydney knows about monsters and the supernatural and B: Was unfazed by elder Vampires, Weres of various flavors and other assorted weirdness. Also, she has fought and defeated kaiju sized alien death machines. A humanoid beholder isn't going to phase her.

Jared Juetten

Wait... Cthillia is a GIRL?! Ok...That throws me for a loop. hahahaha

MechaTech

Did you make Cthillia's eyes deliberately the same color and order as Sydney's orbs?

Shiv Kitty

Also, there are two golden eyes and no pink eye, unless Cthtilia scratches her butt without washing her hands.
