Thank you for the support! You guys are awesome!

I spent about 30 second deciding what kind of car Max has. It had to be something with a fair bit of horsepower, but nothing too froo-froo, so it kind of locked her into muscle cars, and the Shelby GT-500 seemed like a pretty good fit. Considering how often she actually drives it (i.e., from the dealer's lot to the Archon parking garage, and probably less than 100 miles on the odometer since) she wouldn't spend a hellacious amount on a car. I think the 2010 she's got is in the $90-100K range. She actually lets the Arc-SPARQ gear heads take it out every so often because otherwise the battery would die and the gas would break down into whatever gas breaks down into when it goes bad. That's one thing post-apocalypse movies never address. All the gasoline left sitting in cars would be useless in a few months. Apparently it can last longer with some additives, but best case you might get a few years out of specially treated and contained gas. Yes, diesel lasts longer, but my point is that in Fallout, when it's 20 or 40 or 100 years after you went into the shelter/cryosleep, there wouldn't be anything running on gas, including flamethrowers. High-octane vodka, sure, but not gas. And let's not forget most canned food only lasts a few years at best as well, so picking up a 100 year old can of beans that's somehow not corroded through? Hell, I don't even think the botulism in there would still be alive.

So anyway, yeah, Max owns a purple Shelby GT500 that she's driven about 4 times.

My wife loves the backgrounds in The Walking Dead. Well tended gardens, shiny windows, freshly washed cars, leaves swept off roads and paths. All this after years with no functioning society. Oh yeah, and you still find functioning cars. We assume that everything is kept in order by public spirited zombie gardeners, trash collectors and automechanics.

I would say that canned food does not only last a few years. That's the expiry date on the package perhaps, but expiry date has *nothing* to do with how long food is edible. Usually it's just a guess by the manufacturer for when the food starts testing less good, and for things like canned food and water, it's just "idk, a few years sounds good"

Oh red lights. Nothing worse when you hit a string of them in a row

2013-2014 GT500, king of the last years of the straight axle Mustangs. Nice.

Something no post-apocalyptic scenario addresses, except for The Last of Us and The Last Man on Earth, of course. One for accuracy, the other for comedy.

I remember, back in City of Heroes, people would make alts, and then make a mad-dash for…I think it was around level 12, when we got access to our travel powers.

daGrimm

Don't break the Shelby!

Justaguy

Well she COULD just pickup the car and carry it.

Must . . . resist urge . . . to fly car to destination and make it look like I drove! I love Max's inner monologue face in panel 2. It could be worse, Max, you could have Dabbler along as your unasked-for wing woman.

I know nobody actually cares, but gasoline left to sit basically turns into varnish (like on wood furniture) and seals all of the surfaces it's in contact with. So not only is the gas no good, the system it was sitting in is no good either!

Aaron Mauthe

Okay but in fallout specifically, all the cars are nuclear my man.

Mike

we def need this version of Max in a monthly pin up!

Aaron Mauthe

So about fallout… the cars are mostly nuclear my man, and what makes you think flamethrowers run on gas? Flamer fuel isn’t gasoline. It’s probably napalm, which can be stored for significantly longer periods without breaking down. If it’s the the generators you’re thinking about most of those take “oil” which probably has to be refined, one of the many tasks that makes the crafting system way simpler than it would be irl, but it wouldn’t need as much refining as you’d think to run a dirty diesel generator. In fact, i know of at least two people on TikTok whose content revolves around their modified diesel vehicles that use filtered petroleum products such as used motor oil, cooking oil, and acetone.

I love the fact that Max almost never drives yet she has driving gloves

Anything in the Fallout universe that doesn't make sense is just handwaved away with the Forced Evolution Virus or Aliens. The FEV can do pretty much anything. On a different note, I like it when supers have trouble with the mundane aspects of life. Especially when it's a super that got/had powers since before they became adults. Like Spider-man and Superman would never need to learn to drive. And Max got her powers at a pretty early age, so there is probably a lot of stuff she just never had to learn to do.

Okay, the canned food thing is easy. As long as the can is intact, if it was exposed to the nuke nothing inside would be alive anyway [using gamma and neutron radiation to sterilize food was actually planned and even used IIRC], and if it had botulism in it in the first place, it would have ruptured long before you found it from gas pressure [botulism farts]. As long as the can is intact [good anti rust coating?] in theory it could last 100 years. Just sayin. Not everything is FEV and Aliens

Czarzhan

"Nice ride." "...Thanks." "Why'd you go with purple?" "It matches my hair." Notices glamour making her hair black. "Normally"

You'd think a military professional would be used to the hurry up and wait mentally

I can confirm that a car with gas a few years old (less than 10) can be convinced to start with enough coaxing, but there are two risks: 1. Gas going bad in places that seal it away from combustion areas. 2. Lack of lubrication allowing corrosion to lock moving parts together. In both, the longer the car sits, the higher the risk on each. In the last 25 years, gasoline stabilizers have improved. In the past 40-50 years, cars have also gotten better about having less gas where it can cause harm if sitting too long. Almost 20 years ago, I purchased a car that had been sitting a few years with engine problems so that I could use it for spare parts for my car. Once I had gotten the parts I wanted from it and was ready to send it on to a junkyard, I decided to see if I could get it to turn over and start with the little bit of gas still in the car. It took quite a bit of cranking, but it did finally start. Overall, I think the guidance I've seen suggests at least quarterly "exercise" for cars that primarily sit.

Kind of surprised she didn't opt for a large truck or SUV. At 6'-1", especially with the proportionately long supermodel legs, I'd expect that front seat to be pretty uncomfortable. She must have that front seat slid all the way to the back. Of course, the back seats in sports cars are largely vestigial, anyway.

Town Crier

I'm with Max. How DO you little people tolerate red lights? Your cars go slow enough as it is!

Aclys

On the plus side, after this Max will no longer be deluded about the fact that being Maxima (with superpowers) is an infinitely more enjoyable experience than being Maxima (without superpowers).

Fogel

Are there laws against flying while drunk? Probably not, so flying home is even a practical choice.

MaxBigfoot

Buxom, Six-foot-one, model-looking woman? Poor Max is gonna be asked a million times what her instagram page is.

Thisguy

Max should have brought a wingman.

Cha11engerD

With the introduction of a vehicle glamor shots, I do hope we see a challenger or charger later.

IvyReed

It's always refreshing seeing Maxima's insecurities brought to the surface. Sure she could probably punch a hole through the moon (or something) but she's still nervous, gets flustered, and isn't the best at everything! (She really seems to struggle outside of her uniform and rank, like a mask that fits so well it got stuck).

eddi_TBH

The many looks of Max. She's not usually the expressive one.

Edward Lott

She may be walking anyway. I don't think that steering wheel is rated for the stress she is putting on it at that light.

Marc Vun Kannon

This reminds me of an old Superman storyline where he was living completely as Clark Kent, and wonders how people can live with so much of their lives getting from one place to another.
