Thank you for the support! You guys are awesome!

They say write what you know, but that's dumb because then who would write Doctor Who and Superhero comics and speculative fiction and any sort of fantasy or really anything but autobiographies?  Still, I have no business writing about people dating in singles bars cause that is not my scene. However in this case, it works to my advantage because neither Max nor Rowan here are exactly experts, either.

Do you shake hands? I could believe arguments either way, but it seems like something that if you get it wrong, it's a mark against you right off the bat. I'm going to guess if it's a random singles bar introduction, probably not. If it's a blind date... uh... maybe? I think it's even odds between a handshake, a non-committal one-armed hug, and three seconds of awkward silence.

I can't decide if in panel 5 Max is sincerely trying to flirt or "Put the Op4 on the defensive." I think it's leaning more toward "Well, if I'm going to do this, I'm gonna at least try and do it well."

Lord Crusade

Is their something in the water that makes more Syndeys? Or in her case, something in the hot sauce?

Rens

For the safety of the entire universe, Shioh and Sydney must never be allowed to meet.

Fogel

The second girl next to Shioh looks a bit like Sydney in her wig

Carlos

I've heard somewhere that "write what you know" is supposed to mean that you should make yourself knowledgeable about the subject of your works before you start writing. In other words, that it is actually "know what you write" spelled wrong.

Graeme Thorburn

I am really liking Shioh for some reason.

Michael Obert

We will need more Shioh after his arc. I know she's a one-off, but I would love to find out she secretly has some kind of weird superpower and gets recruited. Shioh: The character we wanted, but didn't realize we needed :) Also, Rowan, do not drink what Harper is drinking; it should come with an OSHA warning.

Manuel Vasquez

I definitely wouldn’t mind seeing Shioh return in some other context

akrasia

Max's preferences in partners might go wildly in most any direction, except one. They've gotta have a certain amount of confidence in who they are.

BJ

Shioh is such a gremlin.

Deltarno

Well, given that Max nearly knocked him over the bar last page with her Miles Morales hello shoulder tap, methinks getting laid is out of the picture tonight due to his squishy nature. Hopefully they can bond over having pushy friends and family, and have a chill evening.

Kenneth Winkelman

Well which ever way this goes, it's certainly going to be interesting follow.

Anton Schleef

Good thing Max is distracted right now. I'm not sure she'd appreciate Shioh channeling her inner super-villain right now.

Zip Zop

For some reason, when we see him from the front, he looks like the Bowler Hat Guy from Meet the Robinsons.

Aaron Mauthe

Go Fear Boner Guy!! No I don’t care that his name is Roman.

GMScooter

I like the cardboard cutouts in the background. A great middle ground between muddying up the background and making it look like no one else is there.

Biblioholic1993

I'm not sure Shioh would get along better with relaxing friendly Anvil, or Sydney anytime. Hum.

eddi_TBH

Appropriately awkward. Is he immune to Charm spells?

AlpineBob

Love the Grinch in the last panel! :)

So, shower-thoughts. Harper is going to need an answer to both “what do you do,” and “where have I seen you.” Solution: SCENE: The home of Mr. & Mrs. Scoville. Maxima arrives unannounced, arriving with a great displacement of air, and franticly declaims, “Draw me like one of your French girls!” One smash cut later, Max & Mrs. Scovilleare working out a rough contract to have her do illustration modeling for Mr. Scoville, in order to both give her a genuine answer, and to justify why she might look familiar to people as Harper, by saying “I’m a professional model,” in a context that hides her specific face. It would also help her to get acclimated to the idea of being “looked at” in a context that is controlled, emotionally safe, potentially just fun. It also provides her a chance to associate with a group of mundanes (the Scovilles & their various professional associates in the art business) in a setting other than “going out.”
