In this new Patreon-exclusive tutorial, I’ll show you how to use the powerful new kCosmos reverb plugin from Airwindows to create lush, infinite backdrops for your ambient tracks. kCosmos is unlike any traditional reverb — it builds up layers of sound over time, offering a rich, almost orchestral bloom that evolves slowly and beautifully. I’ll walk you through exactly why this plugin stands out, especially when paired with long-decay sounds and evolving textures, and how to avoid some of the common pitfalls when working with infinite-style reverbs.

To demonstrate its full potential, I’ll design a patch from scratch using the Modal Engine inside Pigments. We’ll focus on building a resonant, airy tone that reacts well to the recursive qualities of kCosmos. Once that’s in place, I’ll show you how to dial in the plugin so it creates an endless, shimmering sustain that can sit underneath your mix like a bed of light. Whether you're scoring cinematic soundscapes or working on your next ambient EP, this technique will give you a reliable way to add depth and emotional weight to your tracks.

It's a great time for free reverbs! - As much as I love Spaceblender, I find it hard to control the early reflections and the very tail end of the decay with the “blob” – I can’t help but think that a paid upgrade is on the cards that will give you more control. I’ll be updating my Airwindows to have a play with this later – interesting what you said about loading a reverb into your Disting – I haven’t checked out your modular video yet – that’s next on my list! I got a little Happy Nerding FX aid that lets you load up to 60 different reverb algorithms, but what I found unique about it was the ability to mess about with the sample rate / clock… a little random modulation of that gives a dark ambient drone all on its own! There is a one hour 45 video on Youtube of all the different Reverb options by Audioral if anyone is interested! …
