The final chapter of the Chillout Ambient series is here! Part 3 is all about mixing and preparing your track for final output. In this video, we’ll walk through how to clean up your session, bounce important effects separately, and why proper gain staging makes all the difference. We’ll also dive into the concept of frequency containment, making sure each element has its place in the spectrum so your mix stays clean, wide, and open.

We’ll talk about leveling for balance and clarity, keeping an eye on your frequency analyzer to prevent masking, and how to leave your personal sonic imprint on the final mix. This is where everything comes together, and I’m excited to share some techniques that can help elevate your ambient productions. Let me know what you guys think in the comments. Thank you for watching this three-part series and stay tuned for next month!

Cheers,

This is great! I thought I was done with my track, and after watching this I realize there’s still a lot of work to be done!! Thank you! I also watched your 3 part mixing and mastering tutorial.

I am on my 8th mixing and mastering revision of my track, the 4th one is the one I like the most, but there is a filter sweep in the original that is not that clear after mastering, also the Fabfilter pro L2 shows the loudness high but when I play the track it does not sound as loud as your songs or other artists, I guess I need a lot more practice!!! But I’m close.

This is so incredibly helpful! So straightforward and answers so many of the questions I had. One question: when printing your audio, in addition to the gain and compressor, do you also print in the PCS EQ curves?
