At long last...using only free plugins!

Let's be honest, I know that we all don't use the same set of tools. However when it comes to tutorials, I try my best to give you an idea of what's possible and focus on the fundamentals, so you can apply those same techniques to you own individual workflow. But what if everyone was able to use the same set of tools (free) so you could all follow along?

That's what this tutorial series is all about!

I'm starting a totally new tutorial series using only free plugins and as you can tell, I'm pretty excited about it! There are some great free plugins out there, but the reality is you don't need much to do make something awesome. I hope you guys enjoy the first one! I'll probably do more, but let's start with one and see how it goes. I have a feeling that this is something that will be well received...

Stay tuned you guys! More soon.

Thanks Chris, this is a great idea. I tend to grab free plugins wherever I can find them but often (mostly!) end up not using them. This series may well encourage me to focus on a few things and actually get to grips with them, which can only be good: bring it on!

I've been a lover of Baby Audio free and paid for plug ins!! They have a killer delay, chours, and pitch shifter... Paid one's are INSANE!! Spaced out, and Crystalline!! Thanks Chris 😁

Can't wait! Maybe if I can get good at eventually making ambient music with only free plug ins and build a name for myself over time - I could sell my own Ableton template sessions!

TAL Noisemaker is a great free synth (highly underrated IMO, and great for beginners), and even has some free presets you can get from Echo Season. :) Also, since presumably you can't use your Valhalla reverb and delay plugins for this, TAL has some freebies that might fill that gap too.

For mastering i use SPAN and Youlean Loudness meter @the end, In trance i use very often the IVGI2 from Klanghelm to get a bit more spice from the background up. And the TDR Nova as DynEQ is cool as well. With Ableton stuff, IVGI2 and TDR Nova i will get nearly the same result as if i use Izotope stuff like Ozone, but need much more time to balance everything out. Honestly for Ambient like stuff, i use my std rack based on the free plugins as it seems to be easier to Master than Psytrance for example :-) For bass and kick i also like barg of dog, Valhalla Supermassive and M4L Device GMAudio Ducker for Sidechaining. It is a shame that Vital does not handle program change commands etc., otherwise it would be a perfect synth for live performances
