Hey gang, great chat today. I wanted to follow up for a moment on the Ableton MIDI timing issue. I was chatting with Luke Stark (Synth Seeker) on Discord -- he jumped in there as we were winding down. He's a pretty heavy duty Ableton user. His world is decidedly hybrid, meaning a good mix of software and hardware. He has not experienced the timing issues at all, though he has heard about it. But, like me, he does use an external MIDI router with very few MIDI thrus. He has run into some synths getting laggy if he's sending to much CC traffic. So, he suggests thinning CC data, reducing thrus if possible, and looking for accidental MIDI loops. Also, the brief chat about using field recordings, and Lanwerker's chat comment about granularizing samples and field recordings. I've got a new song releasing Friday (it's actually a music video) where literally every sound comes from a manipulated field recording, and to make the sounds I used the stock Ableton Sampler, Vector Grain, and Wavetable instruments and stock Ableton effects -- nothing third-party at all. There's a "sanitized" version of the video that should be shown during the intermission of Free Beat's live YouTube stream Friday night, and the full version premieres on my YouTube channel during the show (at 10:30PM EST). It is definitely not one of my Frippertronics-style pieces.... Can't wait to talk again! Cheers!
