Pat Pac

monumental victory for the metal community.

Ryan B Harvey

This was a really fantastic one. The whole opening ceremony was wonderful. I really appreciated the fact that they set all of this story about the evolution of their cultural work and the Olympic Games across Paris. Really made this one unique compared to other opening ceremonies.

Amazing stuff. Metal is the perfect genre to portray the French revolution, and this was a fantastic performance and spectacle. I'm hoping for you that YouTube will lift the ridiculous ban on this video. It's illuminating and enhances the performance itself, and spreads the joy.

Thank you so much Doug, it was fun to watch together with you

Isn't it ironic that Marie-Antoinette played the music that later in the "Sans-culotte" version would become the soundtrack to her demise...!?

I applaud this performance. Neither genres are ones I enjoy. However, it fit in perfectly with the way the French presented their culture and society during the Opening Ceremonies. Respect! Now, if Jean Michel Jarre is part of the Closing Ceremonies, I’ll be ecstatic.

Am I the only one who was stunned by the red streamers? It looked like blood - I’m sure that was the intent - but it was so over the top. Metal to the max for sure. “Raise the fist of the metal child” Jon Oliva Savatage 🤘🎸

Wow! I thought this was perfect, how the music faithfully portrayed the history & culture with power & conviction. One of the best ever, IMO.

The guy standing on a rooftop holding the Olympic torch from 14:45 to 14:50 is a nod to Arno Dorian, the fictional protagonist of the video game Assassin's Creed: Unity which takes place during the French Revolution. The game's digital reconstruction of the Notre Dame cathedral was so detailed (it took 2 years to complete) that its 3D scans were allegedly used to help rebuild the real one after it burned down in 2019.

So, based on the traditional version Dr. Doug played first, I didn’t recognize the melodic line the mezzo-soprano, Marina Viotti, sang from the titled song. However, to my very limited opera exposure ear, it seemed recognizable as the famous aria from Bizet’s Carmen, i.e., Habanero. However, I only know English translation of the words, so if it was the Habanero melody, I don’t know if she was singing Bizet’s original words, or if they put the titled song’s words to that melody line, or if I’m completely mistaken. If anyone is familiar with Bizet’s aria Habanero, I would love to know if I did hear it at that point. Bizet was French so, using it wouldn’t be totally out of place, nu?

I feel in love with metal when I was around 45 years of age. Before that I was happy with Simple Minds in the 80's. But in the 80's I stumbled over a album cover that caught my eye. That album was Basement 5 - 1965-1980. I had to listen the record, and after 10 seconds I was convinced that I had something special. It was a mix between hard rock and reggae. Still love the record today. I still have that copy in VG condition.

Thank you, I didn't see this, it is one other mason show, seems a dough for already fitten chickens.
