For this EPL, I'm eager to get to an album in this series that hasn't been featured previously. So, help me pick from these worthy "new" bands and artists!

This poll will run through Monday, August 5.

Ian Swank

Haha, I was just looking at the master list thinking I can't wait to be able to vote for the Strawbs on an EPL.

Bubbalino

grave new world is an awesome listen! it has my vote!

Ian Dent

Eye In the Sky. Sort of easy listening rock but very, very accomplished.

DrDaveT

I was playing Liege and Leaf in the car just the other day. What a great album, start to finish. The world needs to rediscover folk rock.

Richard Moore

Liege and Lief is a great album!

James

Love Eye in the Sky, was my first APP album.

Pam Norris

Would love to see Robin Trower win this poll but I love the Alan Parsons album too

Chris Ramsbottom

AAAGH! I CAN'T! I JUST CAN'T! Choose one, that is...

Adrian Goodrich

Eye in the Sky total no-brainer - still possibly my favourite from the golden period of this superb band. Very fond memories of it blasting out of my car speakers on a Scotland road trip a few months after release. But would have no probs with Bridge of Sighs. And side one of Grave New World is just chuffing BRILLIANT IMO! Were you the coward who fired the last shot? May you ROT ...in your Grave New World. Queen of Dreams...it's time.

I bought every album on release for years, from when I first heard John Miles singing and playing "The System of Dr Tarr and Professor Feather" from their first album on the UK Tommy Vance's "Friday Rock Show". It just blew me away, as indeed did that whole first album. I'd love to hear Doug's take on the wonderful classical-becomes-rock "The Fall of the House of Usher". And: Nevermore!

Would have been mine in any other circumstances. Side one is one of my favourite sides of 1970s rock ever. Some SUPERB lyrics and music from Cousins, although I love John Ford's so-poignant contribution just as much.

Tom (the soggy one)

As much as I want more Strawbs, it has to be APP, as I've been craving Doug's reaction to "Old And Wise".

Yes, I agree. This WAS a hard one. Strawbs of course also for folk rock. And of course Tull. Doug - can you do ALL of these please? I DO feel pretty conflicted!

Adrian Goodrich

Doug - if you have not heard much APP, I feel sure that once you listen to their first few albums - certainly up to Eye in the Sky - you will wonder what you were missing for so long? Every album IMO up to at least Eye in the Sky is brilliant (less sure thereafter) but I would most love to hear your take on their debut album, which is a bit different to the subsequent works.

BRIAN MILLER

I have been waiting for you to listen to Liege & Lief, one of my top 10 all time favorite albums and the classic British Folk-Rock album. It is a must!

Bubbalino

agreed friend. it's been in my main vinyl rotation for quite some time. i look forward to doug's reaction to eye in the sky though

Greg in east TN

You really need to experience Waitin' For Columbus by Little Feat. Once you do, you'll wish you had heard it 40 years ago. I feel badly for you because of the entertainment you've missed!

Adie

I had to go with Leige and Leaf. Not only is it a wonderful album, but it is also a landmark album in establishing Folk-Rock as a genre. There's a argument to hear it as early as possible so that the newness of the sound can be appreciated. It's a bit late for getting the first impression of Folk-Rock from it, but it's still worth making it as early a listen as possible.

Aarf

"Liege & Lief" for me! And one day I'd love to listen with Doug to "What We Did on Our Holidays" and "Unhalfbricking" albums. With "Liege and Lief" they where all published in 1969 (I mean, 3 albums released in one year, they all deserve to be listened :) ). But, of course, I will enjoy the listening whoever wins!

Christopher Arters (relative timeworx - Mr.A)

Robin Trower's sound was totally unique for the 70s - in no small part due to the deep vocals of James Dewar. This was undoubtedly a big inspiration for the sound of the early 90s and this album in particular deserves full immersion at some point soon.

Trevor Cotterell

An easy decision. Strawbs... so they'll finish last no doubt! Sorry Strawbs fans

Estefanía Sucre

For Alan Parsons' Project, the best choice would have been Tales of Mystery and Imagination, or maybe I Robot

Joe O'Farrell

Indeed! Best we can hope for is a sufficiently close result so Doug might consider looking at the runners up at some point. I’ve no doubt APP will come out on top, so (after much dithering) went for Fairport.

Hetfield Ninno Davide

I hope "Bridge Of Sighs" will have its moment soon , the sound they got going on that album is magical in its simplicity.

Jean-Michel LaFontaine

I voted for Strawbs since it's the album I have less knowledge about on this list. Not going to win this one though.. lol

Fred Westfall

Not my favorite Alan Parsons album but still a solid choice

djentle

When you do get around to BE by Pain of Salvation, please do the live version! You will thank yourself.

Good to see another fan of their first two works! I agree entirely - except Eye in the Sky holds a special place for me because of what I was doing not long after it was first released.

I disagree. Gildenlow's vocals sound really low and unclear in the live performance and his vocal performance is really an essential part of that album experience. But I can agree that the live version is impressive from instrumental and visual perspectives. But I would only suggest checking live version after hearing the perfection that is studio version. If I remember correctly, Be was originally my suggestion and I included the link of studio version in my suggestion.

I agree with both points. The studio version is a bit more “refined” but the live version I believe shows the concept a bit better. I’ll take either one - but it’s not going to be a fan favorite I suspect. One listen of this is not sufficient to absorb all the complexity of the concept. Truly a masterpiece to me though I get why others don’t like POS. 🤘

Steve Hartke

APP is not Prog, IMO, it’s pre New Age… great production, a given, but not a lot of energy… Love the Poe album, but the rest is hit and miss, to me, mostly miss… Better drink some coffee before, so I can stay awake… Trower, Bridge of Sighs would be my choice…
