For this week's Patreon video, I'm trying a slightly new format. With this new 'Under the Microscope' series, I can occasionally further lift up the month's Fan Favorites emphasis. This month, we're celebrating Women's History Month with performances by women in our Fan Favorites series. These three songs have been on our Master List for quite some time, and it is my pleasure to celebrate Pat Benatar, Stevie Nicks, and Bonnie Raitt in this video.

Lovely job, Doug. Three powerful songs by three truly talented women whose work has helped so many people in so many ways. I never knew the story behind Fleetwood Mac’s “Sara,” but that makes it all the more poignant. And Ms. Bonnie - well. Any bitter kittens whose knickers were in a twist about her winning Song of the Year for “… Just Like That” can just sit and listen to it again and grab a Coke and a smile. 😏Everything about that track is brilliant, full stop. I love that you played it again so that you could join in! 💗 Just gorgeous. When the keyboards come in midway, sounding more like a church organ than a piano, for me it evokes a little of the ecclesiastical - a touch of the divine grace that had made its way to Olivia Zand, perhaps. And while Bonnie plays acoustic guitar throughout, the light electric guitar licks that come in toward the end (Kenny Greenberg) help me feel the light coming back into her darkened life. I do like this new “Under the Microscope” format. It seems an efficient way to work through items on the Master List! Looking forward to what songs you’ll do next!

Stop Propaganda

I remember when Pat Benatar took so much shit because nobody took a few minutes to listen to the lyrics and she had to come out on the defensive, just ridiculous what ignorance can do to a well intentioned artist with nothing but love in her heart ... great song choice!

So Many Shiny Objects

All three songs are such deep representations of the female experience. Great selections. You probably know, but Pat Benatar is classically trained. Neil Giraldo and Pat have been married since 1982 and still tour together. They're on my bucket list. "Promises in the Dark" is my favorite of hers. Bonnie is one of my absolute favorite female musicians. I've seen her three times. Check out her performance of "Angel from Montgomery" with John Prine. Her trajectory as an artist is so interesting. Her dad was a famous Broadway actor. She began as one of the guys among the blues artists of the 60s and 70s. Her early work is fantastic, and her voice was very different. She did an amazing version of "Can't Find My Way Home" that you must hear. I'd love to see you feature her Nick of Time album in its entirety sometime. Every single song is superb. Interestingly, she didn't do much of her own writing through most of her career. She was an important champion for other songwriters. The fact that she won this Grammy for one of her own songs is extra sweet. Thanks for this one, Doug. Kathy
