For this next EPL, I'm looking at these five albums from our Master List. The common thread this time is that none of these bands or artists have yet been included in an EPL episode...and, they're bands fronted by women or female solo artists (which fits in with this month's overall theme.) I've heard a few songs from each of these albums...help me pick the one to listen to first!

Tom (the soggy one)

They're all great, but I've been pushing for "The Dreaming" for forever. I think Doug will find it quite the sonic adventure. PS- We did "There Goes A Tenner" on an early DoD. Just a taste of what to expect.

I am still hoping for more coverage Fairport Convention / Sandy Denny. So of course I voted for Liege & Lief.

Illume Eltanin

C’mon community. Let’s make Meg happy and vote ABBA!

Ken Robinson

All terrific choices, but I had to go with The Dreaming to watch Doug react to Pull Out The Pin.

The Dreaming - a wonderful album! I’m looking forward to listening to Doug’ s words about it! 🤩

My beloved Liege and Lief will never win a poll it seems. Thanks Doug for putting it up anyway!

KB The Dreaming is a treasure

Edward M Senkus

I'll settle for a 2 minute review of Joni's California playing the zither (dulcimer)

This is a tough choice and so, of course, a very good set of options. My top three here are neck and neck - Kate, FC, and Joni. These albums are arguably the best these artists gave us. And they each gave so much. I will vote for The Dreaming because this is the album where Kate got to take the reins fully and the results are truly breathtaking. There is a range of artistry on display that is beautiful and breathtaking served up with real passion that cannot be denied. That said, Leige and Leif is frickin' awesome. The best line up for Fairport and, IMO, their best delivery. I definitely want to get more Richard Thompson in front of Doug. Joni Mitchell's Blue is certainly her peak and a worthy of an EPL at some point as well.

The Dreaming was Kate’s music finally under her control. There are hints of what she was truly capable of sprinkled throughout Never For Ever. But nothing she had ever surrendered to other producers and record execs hinted at the forces of nature unleashed in Sat In Your Lap, The Dreaming, Houdini or Get Out My House. EPL is the best format to experience the raw power of her art.

Ruth James

Could easily have selected 4 here but The Dreaming gets my vote🙂👍

Noooooooo! Imaginaerum is up and, once again, it is against such strong alternatives. It’s a wonderful, eclectic concept album whose sum is greater than its parts. Doug would love it, I’m sure, but will need to chose it himself for it to be heard (strong hint).

As always the one I vote for is the least popular one.

"The Dreaming" has to be one of the most experimental "out there" albums ever released by a major artist. It's stunning...

In an aside… Just in case Kate wins the POLL… Might I suggest that you experience the album through the official video clips available on the internet (with respect to applicable copyrights and aquired rights, and etc.). My experience was enriched/tempered (?) by the visual interpretations that were later available in the pre-internet/just budding MTv environment. Note to Doug:The Dreaming is an album with considerable, for lack of a better term, visceral impact. (Which is what drew my attention to it in the 1st place. It is the first instance that I realized the impact that could be made in using a voice as an integral instrument/weapon?) So… just my thoughts.

A fine collection once again. I voted Fairport Convention, and my argument is that this is the best album they made, and it had huge influence. My second choice was Kate Bush, but IMO The Sensual World is a better album by quite a margin, and I'm not sure The Dreaming had as much of an influence as her earlier albums. I wouldn't argue against Blue being Joni Mitchell's best album, although I love Ladies of the Canyon just as much. It was also, undoubtedly, very influential. So I would say the Fairport album is marginally better and more influential in its own sphere, although it's a close race. I think it's very difficult to find the best ABBA album, and they weren't really an album band, having their success in a string of amazing single hits. Super Trooper was at the top of their success, but also after the majority of their successes. It has the advantage of having The Winner Takes it All on it, which has to be their greatest song. IMO it doesn't compete with Kate, Joni or Fairport. I confess ignorance IRO of Nightwish, and I suppose it has only a small chance of getting chosen in one of these polls - excellent though it may be.

Much as I love The Dreaming, I voted for Liege and Lief. What a stunning album, and folk rock as a genre is woefully underappreciated. Maybe someday we can get you to do some Steeleye Span? "Parcel of Rogues" or "All Around My Hat" or "Commoner's Crown"...

Mark Hehir

As much as I love Kate Bush, The Dreaming is not one of my favorite albums by her. IMHO, Joni Mitchell's Blue is way better. My favorite KB albums are her first two, The Kick Inside and Lionheart. They are absolute masterpieces.
