As I was looking through the Master List, I noticed that we have five pending albums by the Electric Light Orchestra. We have not yet included ELO in the EPL, so I'm asking for your help...which of these five ELO albums should I listen to first?

Huh. Not certain why Eldorado is so popular. I mean it's a fine album, but I find it un-distinctive compared to many other ELO projects.

A New World Record is their breakthrough album, deservedly. Their eponymous debut album was released in the US as No Answer because of a misunderstood telephone message.

A new world record, or even face the music. Both stunningly good choices. Eldorado gets more love in the states as it did quite well there, but its not as good as either either NWR or FTM

El Dorado is excellent, but Discovery is a must listen. Diary of Horace Whimp is a classic!!

Oh God, please vote for Face the Music. It doesn’t yet have enough votes as I type this, but it is a true masterpiece that stood the test of time. Back in the day, it completely captivated me, not long after first (ahem) “discovering” Discovery

My god, FINALLY it looks like Eldorado might get the listening it deserves! Yay! (To be fair, Face the Music and A New World Record are both truly awesome albums, as is Time, my other favorite, and I won't be crying in my Diet Pepsi if one of them wins. But Eldorado just has something special about it... even if not everyone sees it, judging from some of the comments!)

A toss between New World Record and Discovery, both of which I used to have on vinyl, but happy to hear less familiar stuff too🙂

Why is Out of the Blue not included. The classic double album that also includes arguably there most famous song "Mr. Blue Sky." Doug if this album doesn't win you should at least do a reaction to the song," Mr. Blue Sky." Trust me you won't regret that you did.

None of the above? I'm not quite sure why early albums by bands (before they hit big commercial success) seem to get missed in these polls?! For example, have I missed the first two Yes albums? I'd go for the first ELO album when they were refreshingly new and different...

A New World Record is chock full of hits plus the ones that were not singles are just as good! This is the most consistent album of the list!

Data Crusher

Plus a New World Record starts off with thier best intro->Tightrope and ends with thier best outro -> Shangri La

For me, Face The Music is a top 10 album of all time. The entire ELO catalog is noteworthy, but in terms of overall impact, songwriting, the band's own special magic that gave them a unique spot on the musical map, FTM was the one that (in real time) broke through and set the standard. And yes, as usual, my endorsement appears to be the kiss of death in this poll...!

I go for No Answer, which is the first album. It's referred to as No Answer because of an admin slip up (the 'no answer' was a note about the inability to get the album name by phone, which was misinterpreted to be the actual name of the album), but since the album name was not on the cover it is not usually known by that name. It is the completely different to all other ELO albums, and is, in fact a unique mesh of rock and classical sound. It is the only ELO album including Roy Wood, and the clashing polarities of Roy Wood and Jeff Lynne are prevalent throughout. This makes it a buried classic album IMO. Even if you don't vote for it, I recommend you listen to it. I would like Doug to listen to it, and would love to hear his thoughts.
