Hey y'all! For this episode, I focused on the early 1980s and searched our Master List for worthy contenders from this era. These are some iconic albums, and I've heard varying portions of all of them. But, I've never listened to them cover to cover...and none of these artists have yet been featured in this series. Vote for your favorite choice!

BRIAN MILLER

Looking forward to this one. I grew up in the '80s and remember when The Police and Asia were on top 40 radio

Waz

As Falls is a beautiful album and deserves a listen, plus Doug has the Lyle scores so 2 birds with 1 stone.

Andrew Marsh

My heart will belong to Pat and Lyle, but I can see the writing on the wall. Frankly, I was listening more to The Police in the 80's. Actually, listening to Journey, but they're not on the list.

Ole Martinsen

There really is no question IMO when it comes to sofistication , emotion, musicianship and production. Wichita is an experience! …. And plase take a listen to Lyles wonderful first self titled solo album, its among the five best releases from the Metheny camp.

Rebecca Walsh

It has been a long while since i voted for anything here. Sting (A control-music freak) always deserves my vote, I don't care what drummer Stewart Copeland says) when you are as talented as a music writer as Sting is you just drum to the beat you are given (LOL)

Douglas Hogg

I've been listening to AC/DC since about 1978, so it has to be Back In Black. The second, or fifth, or tenth biggest selling album ever, depending on which stats are being used. Although it's not an album where Doug should analyse the lyrics too closely...But then the first physical LP I ever bought was the first Asia album, so maybe it should be that. But then I loved Synchronicity (except for 'Mother' - one of the worst songs I've heard on any album, ever).

Ralph Darvill

Synchronicity for me, by far the most interesting, musically, of The Police's albums.

Eusebio R-Z

Ouch! Many "Must Listen's", I'll vote for "Wichita" although it doesn't look like it can win against Synchronicity

Trevor Cotterell

An easy decision this time. Sadly that means it won't win!

Adie

A very interesting choice here. It crosses a number of lines of genre, and I'm not so familiar with some options as others. I went for Asia, not so much because I think it's the best album, but because Doug has heard so much of the work of the constituent members, and this album has been heralded as a (commercially very successful) major change of direction for all these members. I am interested in what Doug hears in this album in comparison with the past; what continuity, progression, or regression, or, simply, contrast.

DonHaka

Synchronicity is almost a complete masterpiece. The only song that I always skip is Miss Gradenko. Every other song on the album is awesome.

Ross Pollack

Synchronicity is great; I'm glad we will get a full Police album. I also hope we can get some AC/DC in future EPLs as I think they are big YouTube blockers and this would be the only way to hear them.

kjdarch1 .

W. Falls is a masterwork.. Loved Pat Methany live in the 80s...

Tom (the soggy one)

Asia- if Yes, ELP and King Crimson had a loud, pop-rock baby. Still voted for it.

Todd Howard

so delighted to see survivor in a pole like this because no one ever talks about that band. They were initially one of my huge favorite bands before I got into Rush in high school. I saw survivor on the vital signs tour opening for REO Speedwagon on their wheels are turnin’ tour… My buddy and I went to see Survivor and had planned to leave before REO came on… Once we were there, we decided to stay and that set was phenomenal as well. But if I think of the videos I’ve loved most with Doug, I feel the Asia debut would be the most fun, but I will totally take Police synchronicity because that record is sublime! Glad to be here Doug and everybody!

Mark Parker

Once again I manage to pick the one with the least votes

Stuart Moulder

All interesting choices. I remember the day I bought Synchronicity when it came out. What a breakthrough album for them. I voted for As Falls Wichita, etc. though as it is my favorite of the Metheny/Mays works. Perhaps some other time.

JC Connington

The Police = sanitised, corporate, meh... blandsville!

ben-one-eye

I thought for sure that AC/DC would run away with it. But I guess people just want to hear stalker anthems. Who knew. :)

Jonathan Egrie

So, Doug it looks like Synchronicity by the Police won. Super. You are going to love the album. I often call it "The Police's Swan Song album". It was after the tour for the album ended in 1984 that Sting decided to leave the Police and go solo. It made a lot of sense considering he wrote most of the band's songs by himself including the smash "Every Breath You Take."

Fushigi

I checked this too late, but happy with Synchronicity.
