I continue to be astounded by the songwriting prowess of Matthew Bellamy! This collection of songs is a marvelous achievement...and the band's pretty damn good, too. If Muse is new to you, I hope you'll give them a chance. If you like The Beatles and Queen, I think you'll like Muse. :)

Nice, love that album. And I can start listening to it less than 1h after the EPL was released. :D Edit: I just noticed again how much the musical style of "Supermassive Black Hole" reminds me of Michael Jackson. It feels like that one was inspired by his music. Very nice EPL. You're so good at interpreting lyrics, always amazed what you can take out of those words and the music. Regarding what you said (and then said to regret saying it): I absolutely get what you're on about, but I want to give a few things to think about. You have to keep in mind that this is music from the 2000s. During that time especially, such style, featuring compression, certain types of distortion etc. became popular and is widely used in electronic music and pop music. They were very clearly influenced by electronic music especially. You can hear this even more clearly in some of the upcoming albums, e.g. on The 2nd Law (also the title track, which maybe you might not like that much for exactly that reason). So I'm pretty certain that this is a deliberate choice of style, like e.g. it's typical for metal guitarists to put a lot of distortion on their tone. They want that section, that instrument, that song to sound exactly like that, it's on purpose. Now style is of course highly subjective, so it's very normal that you'll hit some parts that you don't like in the repertoire of a band that varies its styles as strongly as Muse does. I, for one, appreciate them exactly for this variation, for giving each song an individual character, even if that means that not every song has the most beautiful guitar/bass/keyboard sound. I remember you said something similar about Time Is Running Out on Absolution, you said you don't like the distortion on the bass sound. IMO, if that wasn't there, the song would lose something, it would actually sound dull, but that's of course only my subjective opinion.

SO looking forward to seeing this later today!!!

Boring Postcards

One of several bands I discovered through playing Guitar Hero back in the day! The first side of this album is just relentless. This was a lot of fun, thanks Doug

Ricky

It's a really good album , Take a Bow , the surprise little break in pace of Soldiers Poem and the fantastic Invincible. The whole album just hits a musical spot.

The Globalist is an A+ for song writing, musicianship and production imho. Doug, you have to do an EPL on their Drones album (but no pressure as I fully appreciate how mad busy you are!) 🙂

Awesome stuff, I’ve always maintained Muse is a less pretentious and infinitely more fun Radiohead. Between Absolution and BH&R, in my opinion you have covered Muse’s absolute peak. Masterful albums from front to back. Not a bathroom break in sight😜🤣 Well done!!

I have loved Muse since there first EPs and albums. I remember having an argument with my best friend who lazily dismissed them as 'Radiohead-light'. The range and musicality as a vehicle for the deep or pointed themes has always blown me away. I heard three of the new songs earlier tonight; they sound pretty great on first listen.

Dude, where'd you get that pipe?

I love this album... but I always felt like they peaked here... just can't get into the later ones, but this and Absolution are just phenomenal.

Yayyyy! Love this album. PLEASE do Toxicity full album by SOAD.

Christian

Oh, no, the official video had Invincible edited 🫢😰👀
