To go along with our Fan Favorites emphasis this month, I'm asking you to pick your preferred jazz/jazz fusion/jazz rock album for us to hear next. All of these albums are submissions from the Master List, and I'm quite unfamiliar with all of these albums... so, thanks for helping us choose!

I will have to think about this as I don't know any of these albums in their entirety.

Mark J Moerman

Once again, five deserving choices, any one of which would make a fine EPL.

Paul Ehney

I've always enjoyed Jean-Luc Ponty's music.

Andrew Marsh

The time you have A Love Supreme as a choice, you had to also include Brand X. I still give the edge to Coltrane.

Barry P

Hard to choose a favorite, but I'll go with Mahavishnu to finally get "Lila's Dance" to Doug's ears.

Todd Howard

I want to vote Jean Luc Ponty (my third live concert ever in New Haven, CT in the late 80s)… But Mahavishnu orchestra and John Mclaughlin is so exceptional and I would love to enjoy that with Doug… Not to mention would this be the first Coltrane? Or is there other older stuff I need to go dig for cause that would also be so fun… echo earlier sentiments that this is a great pack. I don’t know the blood sweat and tears or the brand X well at all….

kjdarch1 .

Jean Luc was so awesome.. saw him in a small drama theater at NCSU student center 1980 🥰

Peter Tutak

Although the BS&T won’t make the cut, it’s considered the seminal “jazz-rock” album, from a time when the fusion of the two was still an adventurous, if not outlandish, concept. The writing is song-based, not instrumental, and the arrangements were considered clever at the time…which was 1967.

Claudio Fernandes

I can't vote to this one. Please make an EPL to all of them LOL

Douglas Hogg

All I know about jazz is the wonderful quote from the "Beirbecke Affair", a UK TV series from the 80s.

Douglas Hogg

"There are 3 tytpes of jazz. Hot, Cool and When Does the Tune Start".

When I first saw the list, my vote was for Mahavishnu Orchestra because I am most familiar with them. Upon listening to all of the albums, I am switching to the Jean-Luc Ponty disc, which I loved. I tried to like the Coltrane disc because it is such a classic, but only the 4th number made an impression on me. Maybe if Doug analyzes it I will understand better why it is so highly regarded.

Steve Hartke

Wow, no love for Jean-Luc Ponty, Enigmatic Ocean… an absolutely fantastic album. Featuring the late great Alan Holdsworth, and Journey drummer, showing jazz chops, Steve Smith.
