Tomorrow, May 26, is the Miles Davis Centennial. Perfect timing!

This ain’t your King Crimson “Matte Kudasai.” Not even your BEAT “Matte Kudasai.” This is Tony Levin, his keyboardist brother, Pete, David Spinozza on guitar, and Jeff Siegel on drums doing a gorgeous smoky jazz version of this Prog classic from Levin Brothers’ 2014 eponymous album. Need I go on? Nah. You get it.

Jeff Yutzler

Cancel the poll and pick anything from Sonny Rollins.

I can't believe my choice isn't propping the table. :)

I don't know if you consider "The Dave Brubeck Quartet" as performing jazz "instrumentals" (as opposed to straight jazz), but they have some great live performances from their live "Berlin Philharmonie" (that was in 1970; they seemed to have broadened their playing style in contrast to their earlier recordings).

I think 4Hero needs some more votes! I wonder if it's because there is no playlist, or that not many on here have heard of them?! They are seriously worth a listen if you've not heard them...and then consider a vote! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SISF6mSM7No

May I please make one more respectful request for Tony Levin & his brother’s lovely version of King Crimson’s “Matte Kudasai”? If you have one last vote out of the allotted six going spare … please and thank you!! 🙏🙋‍♀️💖

I guess several of these are more fusion than jazz? Regardless, a lot of great stuff. Stan Tracey is an interesting musician, who played both piano and vibes. (He was one of the top jazz musicians in Britain that American jazz musicians worked with when touring the UK, I believe.)

Andrew Marsh

As the voting is going, there is more emphasis on fusion than jazz. I originally nominated Pat Metheny Q&A but someone already did and it got in anyway. To me. You can't have jazz without Brubeck, Albert, Mangione, and Glen Miller.
