We're going back to the discography of King Crimson for this Extended Play Lounge. Islands is their only album from the 1970s left that I haven't yet heard, but I don't mind skipping to their later work. Which album do you prefer for this episode?

Well - that was a dumb poll. LOL - most interesting thing will be which album came in 2nd

I’m delighted to see Islands finally getting some love!

How TOAPP beats Beat for second I do not understand.

Trevor Cotterell

To be honest I've never been that enthralled with the later ones, and only a few tracks on Islands that really got through to me. Maybe I need to re-listen to some later stuff!

Chris B

Islands, and please the live version of the fantastic "Ladies of the Road" Album. Dirty jazz prog.

Dennis den Brok

The ConstruKction of Light, the title track, is one of my favorite King Crimson pieces, but... I have to go with Islands here.

Richard Moore

Looks like we may get Islands, finally!

Daniel Travers

Construction of light might be my favourite crimson album. I know it won't win but hopefully we get there soon

Ken Robinson

Makes sense to finish off the early albums

While I can understand the chronological approach of going to Islands, there is simply no question in my mind that Thrak towers above all the others. Furthermore, it is the apex of the post 70's Crimson musical journey. There may be some who have voted for Islands, who have little interest in post 70's Crimson, and they judge the aftermath by the 80's Crimson albums. I say to them - listen to Thrak and find the Crimson future you always hoped was there.

Scot Poland

Finally. Doug, you have no idea. I wish you hadn’t already heard Sailor’s Tale. No single track on this album remotely resembles any other. It’s prog chamber music and I truly think it will appeal to your composer side.

Allen

I heard Doug listened to one of the tracks recently during a Doug on Demand (maybe he can substitute a live version for that particular track, as suggested by Chris B)?

Finally time for Islands! The last part of the title track is sublime.

Potted Rodent

Islands is the obvious choice, good to see that I'm not alone!
