“East St. Louis Toodle-oo” is an old Duke Ellington composition! That’s why there’s such a delightful piano solo. 😉 I am totally ok with the Levin Brothers’ “Matte Kudasai” not making it into the countdown if it beckoned to you and got you to listen to the whole album & make it an instant favorite!! That is a WIN!! 🥳🎉

Chuck played the flugelhorn. I was fortunate enough to see him play live a couple of times. He always surrounded himself with outstanding musicians and their live shows were pretty special. The cover of this album Is a perfect match for what's inside. Starting to think that 1977 was THE best year for the music I love.

"The Grand Wazoo" was Frank's big band album, and you most definitely should listen to the entire wonderful album. Huge band, with lots of his favorite players, and yes, of course that was George Duke on keyboards. Thanks, as always, Doug, for another excellent usage of an hour-plus of my time! (That long-form intro never fails to make me bust out in a big grin.)

I am looking forward to catching up with this, this evening🙂

Couldn't wait any longer to watch the Steely Dan reaction. I amazed Doug hasn't heard it before. The whole album is great (2nd only to Can't Buy A Thrill imho). Another band for a Wheel of Prog Council Hangout I would respectfully suggest🙂

I really enjoyed Stratus by Billy Cobham. Some it near the start when the drums get going reminds me a little of ELP.

The original Question and Answer piece was released on the same titled album in 1989 by Pat Metheny with Dave Holland and Roy Haynes only. The version you heard was released in 1998 and added Burton and Corea. Both are great, but I was so used to the original without piano and vibes. That 1989 album with just the three of them is one of my dad's and my favorite Jazz albums of all time.

I'm kicking myself for not submitting Tank! and Rush both by The Seatbelts. Maybe for a future episode

Great songs! This should be done more often, I think.
