Same development as Florence from FreeFall. Started out as a very intelligent "pet" wolf that proceeded to become humanoid as she aged. Then started being treated like the little sister to her owner and the adopted daughter to his mother.

It's only awkward because everyone else makes it awkward. We've already seen in other sketches that she still has all her dog traits like digging holes and chasing squirrels so from HER perspective this is and always has been normal.
