Granted, I've been asked in restaurants before if I know what I'm ordering when I'm ordering steak tartar - and while I do like raw beef and raw salmon in specific forms, I know plenty of people who gag at any kind of raw meat/fish products.

Try a "mettbrötchen" in germany. Minced meat with onion, salt and pepper on a bun. Raw. For people who doubt it: there are between 0 and 4 cases of trichinellosis per year in germany. Mostly after a travel outside of europe. And for self service: sorry no picture post possible. Just type "Mettigel" and look for pictures.

Or that nasty bloke E. Coli, which is why you want to keep it refrigerated and then warm it in a toaster oven or similar just before eating. That said, I discovered the pleasant flavors of a good steak in its natural state back in 1983, been enjoying one from time to time ever since, never a problem so far. *knocks wood* Pretty sure I wouldn't try it with anything but a good beef steak, though. Definitely not with pork or poultry.

I've tried all of them At one point or another and must admit I've even made my own sausage meat mix (which was delicious warm and raw) but sourcing trustworthy ingredients is far too time intensive to do on a regular basis. I guess it makes it all the more enjoyable when I *can* do it! ☺️☺️☺️☺️

Well, the meat must be of excellent quality, and the taste buds need a little time to adjust in order to perceive and truly appreciate its subtle, natural flavor. Personal note: the animal should have lived a life worthy of the name.

I agree with that. But as I already mentioned above, the meat must be of the highest quality. If it has been properly stored, there are no issues with our single-celled friends—organisms that felines and canines are better adapted to handle than we are. @wkd1206: The easiest option is to get it from a trusted hunter. That way, you can also be confident that the animal had a life worth living.

I loved raw meat and eggs as a kid, so I would be fine with this. Also there are plenty of roasts that are almost raw in the center.

To be entirely fair, the only real reason humans don't eat raw meat is because we know it can carry diseases or parasites, it's not like we're physically incapable of it, just prefer not to due to knowledge of the risks

Isn't it more like there's simply 0 reason for us to eat it raw? We can cook it...which makes meat just...better. Sure it tastes better as well but that's probably just due to out evolution with cooked meat. If we never started to cook, our stomachs would probably be at least a bit more resistant to raw meat shenanigans today...as many animals are. But again, no reason not to cook it.

Careful inspection and care in raising the animals can reduce the risk considerably.

I've had sashimi before. The main oddity is the gelatinous texture. Our aversion to raw meat is mostly cultural--many cultures where farmers use dung-based fertilizer similarly have an aversion to raw vegetables because they can carry germs from the dung, and so the texture of raw vegetables is considered "uncivilized".

I hear you! I love a very rare cooked steak, but as you said, too many risks are involved, and I almost died from food poisoning once. A week recovering in the hospital is not as fun as it sounds!😁

Never knew that. Growing up on a farm with huge gardens, we ate them raw or cooked with a meal.

As I commented earlier, I love the flavor of a good steak raw. That said, it needs to be kept properly refrigerated until you're ready to warm it up and eat it, to reduce the risk of bacteria. I've been eating raw beef for many tears and so far (knocks wood) never had a problem.
