It's a common thing in anime/cartoons in general. it helps flesh out thier expression when you normally wouldn't see it.

A relationship between an 8 yr old and a 16 yr old is probably deserving of legal action, but a relationship between a 20 yr old and a 28 yr old isn’t really that notable. In both cases it’s an 8 year age gap, but it’s only morally reprehensible in one case- it’s a mental and physical maturity thing more than a number thing. Wait a decade or so until they’re both mature adults, then it’s whatever.

I hope that you feel better. I hate when I get really sore muscles, especially after long tournaments or things like that. Not sure if there is any around you, but cryotherapy can help. (Or ice baths, but those take longer and are more torturous.)
