#1 Color vote for May, suggested by  unsteddyphoenix!

I included a zip file with Kat and background separate, in case it's useful to anyone.

You're correct about the radio call signs, although radio stations that started broadcasting prior to 1928 used 3 letters. So, if you hear a radio station with a 3 letter call sign, you can be assured that it has been broadcasting for over 100 years, i.e. WWL (New Orleans) and WBT (Charlotte, NC). Here's a link to a Wikipedia article about it: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Call_signs_in_the_United_States

DiDiDi-X

Found my new Background

Taki Kuroi

This is fantastic! :D

The_Unpopular

Oh my gosh, this is my wallpaper now

Wolf guy

Just set this as my desktop wallpaper

Dunkoro

Exactly my thought

InTheLionsDen

This is a fantastic set and it was beautiful in the stream when Tom did the gradual lighting transition from day to night.

DiDiDi-X

I see Kat is Watching Twokinds Comic on her laptop.

Anonymous

Love all the little details in the picture, Tom. :)

The Sexy Beast

I really enjoyed listening to the lo-fi jam while you were coloring this.

Markvincible

This would make an amazing background!

Roughlandin

I could spend the rest of this afternoon going over all the little Easter Eggs in the background of this pic. It's amazing. And watching chat explode during the big reveal last night was probably my favorite stream moment since I became a patron. Thank you so much, Tom! This is wonderful! One more thing: The more Modern AU pics I see, the more I NEED a Modern TK side-comic or art book. It doesn't even have to have a plot. Just a series of images showing what the main cast is doing and how they interact in a modern urban setting. Some concept type pieces of how the world works, cool places in the city, and all the neat mana-based tech would be awesome too. I would be the first to put my money on the table for a hardback art book like that! It's just... *SQUEE* Agh! It's soooooo COOL! XD

Mingun

Also there two Twokinds books on shelf.

InTheLionsDen

Now I imagine a version with the cat being gone from the windowsill and a white dragon flying in the distant background. :)

JokerA249

Would it be weird for Kat to have cat eared headphones?

AstroChaos

Oh man, how have we never had a Chilled Kat photo before? This is so perfect

Travis9x

I absolutely LOVE this pic, and all the little bits of "modern fantasy" such as the mana crystals, neat plants, and the obviously magical skyscraper building…aaahhh, so good!! 😻

Norvin Fisk

I watch this stream all the time, this is a great pic ^^

TheMasterOfOats

Dang, this looks even better in colour. It's got slightly different vibes to the usual colouring style, idk how to describe it. It's like "toned back colour grade LUT pack meets twokinds with a pinch of studio Ghibli." Vague, I know.

Gary Scarborough

Kay’s Reni plushie on the bookshelf is a nice touch.

Gary Scarborough

Kat’s Reni plushie on the bookshelf is a nice touch.

Force Gaia

aww, just a tad too small to be a native resolution desktop background on my 2560x1440 display

Mingun

So, who knows, where the reference for that picture come from?

jeffh4

Absolutely fantastic work!

Roughlandin

Tom showed the ref on stream. Try searching Lo-Fi anime girl and you'll probably find it pretty quick. Edit: Yeah it's the top google image result under Lo-Fi Anime Girl, lol!

Adamas

How about the Reni plushy on the bookcase?

Adamas

And one of Reni's butterflies on the desk lamp

GiantBurger

Aw man I loved watching this on the stream, such good vibes.

Mircea Kitsune

This is a really amazing and well stylized one, great work there!

Reseen Dalls

It's beyond gorgeous!! The style he used... it's like a top quality anime, at the same level than the best ones of studio Ghibli!

Zenaultavex

One of my favorites to this day! outstanding work!

TheMasterOfOats

I see that too. Idk I play guitar and there is no wrong word to describe sounds so I've gone and applied that to my whole life. People get confused when I describe some lighting as "crunchy with echo" or a car tuning as "coarse but with big sky undertones".

TheMasterOfOats

Oh my word an AU where umbrella for two, rainy modern raine, and this are all actual events. yes please!

TheMasterOfOats

I've already commented on this way too many times but the new voting incentive is amazing, I super feel for Zen.

H0l0 Light

someone give this man a medal

Nerflo

left handed kat is a cool thing to have

Mingun

Yes, but what IS this anime? What is the title of?

Ordithus

Incredible work! So many little details. Love the atmosphere this gives

Gary Scarborough

Adamas, so it is. I can’t believe I missed that. I better get my old eyes checked.

SCD

Kathrin: All done. Nora: You were writing that paragraph for hours, it’s already dark! Kathrin: I’m a slow writer. Nora: ………I worry about you sometimes.

SCD

Excellent drawing, Tom.

Roughlandin

It's just a print. I don't think it's attached to an actual anime.

WitherdFox

Lol, she has the comic pulled up on her computer

Gray Scribe

I'm a little confused. Kat is definitely in your style, at the same time I'm getting strong Studio Ghibli vibe from the picture.

Isekai'd

I absolutely love this one. The coloring. The amount of details. The hidden little extras. Outstanding piece of work and without a doubt one of my favorites ♥

Torbjörn Larsson

And Nibs napping on the desk lamp. (She should probably be among the tags too.)

Torbjörn Larsson

It is discussed in the thread under the b/w version - the reference is a music channel splash gif w/ anime. Dunno if they sourced it from elsewhere or had an artist make it.

Gary Scarborough

Torbjorn Larsson that and cup to the left of the flower pot with Flora’s tiger stripes. Tom really outdid himself on this one. Finding these things is better than Christmas!

Torbjörn Larsson

Nice catch! I wonder whose eye is the flower in the potted plant? If it is an eye, there are mana-ed elements floating around in that image.

Gary Scarborough

Thorbjørn, I’m thinking it’s one of Natani’s manna crystals. Also. the backwards “C” around it. I wonder what it could possibly be.

Gary Scarborough

Now that you mention it, that’s exactly what it looks like! Excellent call!👍

Nick

yo underneath the left side of the lampshade there is a sign that says "TK * NX". does anybody know what that means?

Roughlandin

I think it's a radio antenna and TKNX is the station call-sign.

Roughlandin

Apparently modern Mekkan goes by the International Fixed Calendar system, which consists of 13 months divided into an even 28 days per month. The real question is, what's the Mekkani name for that pesky 13th month?

Nick

maybe, but i cant help but notice that "TK" could possibly mean "TwoKinds" and the "TK" and "NX" are separated by that dot, which suggests that "NX" could have its own and completely separate meaning

Torbjörn Larsson

You and durandle solved the cup "key" in the cup. But what about the spooky eye in the pot!? Spy eye?

Torbjörn Larsson

Also, the mana key design explain the mana skyskraper.

Roughlandin

Oh definitely TK is a Twokinds reference, but I think that's just it. And that's almost certainly an FM radio transmitter on that building. US FM radio stations typically have 4 letter call signs that don't necessarily have to mean anything, but do have to be unique. Though I think modern US commercial FM stations are required to have a W or a K as the first letter. In modern Mekkan, with the Templar apparently in control of energy and communications, networks might be required to have call signs beginning with a T, instead of a W or a K. So, TKNX could stand for something like, Templar Broadcasting Channel: Keidran Network X, or Keidran News X, or something like that.

Gary Scarborough

You guess correctly, and I’m not sure what the eye in the flower pot is. Resolution on my phone only goes so far. 😁

JAB the Tab

how did i not realise this

Packardlebaron

It would have been cool if the cat on the windowsill was Flora. Still an amazing picture though!

Hates Russian Occupiers

Beautiful and tranquil. Just like those yutube videos with the smooth hip-hop.

Taki Kuroi

I used the non-Kat versions as a video chat background with friends. They loved it.

Supreme Leader Porg

Love the cool mix of architecture for the buildings in the background
