Miles sat behind the wheel of his new SUV, letting his gaze wander over the familiar streetscape as he drove home from work. He’d only owned the vehicle for a few weeks, and it still felt a little unfamiliar, but to him it symbolized the tangible success he’d worked hard to achieve after graduating from college. Although he wasn’t a car enthusiast and didn’t want to show off, he felt a certain sense of satisfaction in finally being able to buy nice things with his own money.
Miles had found a job relatively quickly as an architect at one of the larger construction firms in his hometown, and he looked forward every day to finally living here again and being on such solid financial footing after the uncertain years of college. It wasn’t exactly a cosmopolitan city, but it wasn’t the backwoods either. There was enough work for his firm that Miles was convinced this job would provide him with a good, secure position for the foreseeable future. The projects he worked on challenged him, gave him a sense of purpose, and allowed him to come home in the evenings with a certain sense of satisfaction. The only thing missing now to make everything truly perfect was a relationship. He didn’t think in exaggerated imagery or grand romantic fantasies, but simply of someone with whom he could share his evenings—someone who would not only fill the apartment but also make it feel warmer. On the other hand, he had to admit that his thoughts did occasionally drift toward cheesy versions of “the one true love,” especially when he found himself thinking about Erin again.
Before he finally headed home, he turned into the driveway of a gas station and pulled up to one of the open pumps. His tank wasn’t critically low, but he wanted to take advantage of the opportunity so he wouldn’t have to stop again later.
As the nozzle clicked and the gas flowed into the tank, Miles casually let his gaze wander across the forecourt. Another car was parked at the neighboring pump, and two people were just getting out of it. The man walked straight to his own pump, while the woman started walking toward the gas station’s small store. Miles watched her in particular. She was on the shorter side and stocky, with full breasts and a large, soft behind, both of which swayed and jiggled noticeably as she walked. Her blonde hair fell over her shoulders and moved in time with her steps. Immediately, and without being able to control it, Miles found himself thinking of Erin with a sudden pang of longing. The resemblance wasn’t in her face, but in their rather similar body types and the way the woman moved.
Miles laughed, shaking his head, and forced himself to look away and focus on filling up the tank. What on earth had been going on with him lately? It was almost as if he were obsessed. At every turn and at every opportunity, memories and longing for Erin overwhelmed him. Did he feel that lonely in his life? Did everything else—like hobbies, friends, and work—fulfill him so little that he couldn’t think of anything else? On top of that, there was something else Miles couldn’t deny. He’d always been into curvier women—even really, extremely overweight and obese girls. In college, none of the relationships he’d had—or any flings or one-night stands—had ever satisfied him, because no woman had really been his type. Until now, Miles had never been open about it and had also shied away from contacting heavier women online. He longed intensely to feel soft, feminine fat at least once in his life, to knead plump rolls of fat, and to be with a woman who perfectly matched his fantasies. Stretch marks, a butt and thighs with plenty of cellulite, grabbing big, sagging yet still plump, fat tits, lifting a heavy potbelly—the whole package. Miles longed to finally give in to this inclination he’d had for as long as he could remember and to feel what he was really into.
When the blonde woman returned from the store, she was holding two cans of Coke and an ice cream cone, which she ate with relish as she walked back to her partner. Miles watched as the two kissed—briefly and intimately—before they got into the car and drove away. The man had placed his hand on his partner’s plump butt, squeezed into tight jeans, and gently pinched it.
A strange, hard-to-define feeling washed over Miles as he hung the gas nozzle back up, closed the gas cap, and walked toward the gas station building. He paid, got back into his car, and drove off, lost in thought. For the rest of the drive home, his thoughts revolved around what he’d just seen and what he himself was missing. He’d achieved everything he’d ever wanted in life. At such a young age, he was already making really good money, living in an apartment he owned, and able to afford things he’d once only dreamed of. And yet he had no one with whom to share it all. Of course, he could have looked for suitable women in clubs and bars or used dating apps—even ones that catered to his preference for curvier women. But he already knew that wouldn’t make him happy, because his thoughts would always return to that one woman. Even if he ever dared to be open about his preference for curvier women, there was only one specific person he wanted: Erin.
When he got home, Miles parked the SUV in the underground garage, grabbed the bag with the documents from the office, and took the elevator up. The apartment greeted him with its usual silence—a silence he normally appreciated but which suddenly felt a bit too heavy that evening. He set the bag down, took off his shoes, and sank onto the couch. His cell phone was within arm’s reach, and after staring into space for a while, he opened Instagram and searched for Erin’s profile. He had deliberately avoided it over the years, but this time he finally typed in her name. The profile appeared, and he slowly scrolled through the photos. Many of them were older and seemed to date from before college. There was practically nothing noteworthy to see from her college years themselves. Still, with every new smile that met his gaze, he grew more certain that he was, in fact, in love with this woman. He couldn’t explain it any other way—how someone could have haunted his thoughts for years and kept giving him those fleeting moments of melancholy at every little opportunity.
The way Erin looked into the camera, the slight tilt of her glasses in some of the photos, the unfeigned joy in her eyes—all of it felt to him like a direct line to the past and, at the same time, like something that was still very much alive. Sighing, Miles leaned back on the couch and stared at the ceiling. He was probably reading far too much into all these memories of Erin. Anyone else would simply get on with their life and find happiness in new ways. How long had it been since he’d last seen or spoken to the blonde woman? Five years? Or was it six? He lowered his gaze back to his phone screen and scrolled to the top of her entire timeline.
He lingered on the three most recent photos and examined them more closely. The first showed a cake with the words “Congratulations on finishing college” written in icing. The second was a photo of her parents’ house, accompanied by the caption “Back home after so long. Here to stay.” Miles could clearly tell that it was indeed that very house. He’d visited there many times. It was unbelievable how naive Erin and he had been as children, when he thought about how he could probably die happy right now if only he were allowed to touch Erin’s beautiful butt just once or kiss her sweet lips.
The third photo showed Erin with her mother, whom Miles knew from years ago. Both were beaming at the camera, and behind them was a front door with several moving boxes in front of it. Miles felt a tightness in his chest, and at the same time, his hands grew slightly sweaty with excitement. He was thrilled by how Erin looked. Her hair was now straight and much longer than before, but still just as blonde, falling softly over her shoulders. You could only see both women from the chest up, but it seemed as though Erin had gained a little weight. It was hard to say exactly how much, but she looked damn hot. Miles would have thought it impossible that he could feel even more desire for his old girlfriend, but that was exactly what was happening right now. Her arms looked fuller, and her breasts were beautifully large and voluptuous. Erin was wearing a black dress, and the skin that was visible looked so delicate, fair, and soft.
He wasn’t Sherlock Holmes, but it didn’t take a genius to figure out what all this meant. Miles pieced together the photos and the captions and concluded that she had moved back to her hometown after college, just like he had. On top of that, she seemed to have gained some weight and, in his eyes, had become even prettier. At least that wasn’t a conclusion—it was clearly visible in the photos.
He could hardly believe it and felt his heart beat faster with a happiness he hadn’t felt so clearly in a long time. The distance, the years, the unspoken words—all of that suddenly seemed much less insurmountable because life had brought them so close together again, almost as they had been in their childhood. Miles decided to seize the opportunity presented to him and typed a message. He did hesitate before sending it, fearing he’d either sounded too casual after such a long time or, on the other hand, too distant—but deep down, it didn’t really matter. What could possibly happen? Why had he waited so long in the first place?“Hi, Erin. I know it’s been a hell of a long time, but I just wanted to check in. Why not, right? I saw you on Insta. Did you move back to Mapleton? I’ve been gone for a hell of a long time, too, but I’ve got a job here at Summit Corp. now.How are you?”
Maybe it was too much for a first message after several years, but now it was done. Miles looked at the chat and swallowed as suddenly—much faster than he’d expected—the three familiar dots appeared at the bottom of the screen. Erin had already read his message and was replying. Like a nervous schoolboy before his first date, Miles waited for her reply.“Oh my God! How are you, Miles? I’m so glad you’re back! Everything’s great on my end! Would you like to do something sometime?”
