Miles stared at the screen and read the message again. His heart began to race, and he felt a smile flit across his face. He typed a reply, trying to sound as calm as possible. It was always hard to strike the right tone in a text message. When everything happened without a voice, you had to pay extra attention to your words. That’s probably why someone invented emojis in the first place. Still, Miles wasn’t finding it easy right now to strike the right tone with Erin—he wanted to come across as normal and a little casual, when really, everything inside him just wanted to pull his old childhood friend into his arms. If Miles was honest with himself, he wanted far more than that.

“Hey Erin. I’m doing well. Really good, actually. Glad to hear things are going great for you, too. I’d definitely be up for doing something. Let’s see what comes up. How have things been going for you since college?”

The reply came surprisingly fast again. She seemed interested in chatting with him, too, and wasn’t going to put him on the back burner, only to maybe text him back at some point. That was definitely a really good sign.

“College was okay for me. I studied law—you might remember—and I actually graduated in the end. It was exhausting and sometimes really frustrating, but I’m glad I stuck with it. Now everything’s much more relaxed. My job here in Mapleton is great; I was really lucky to land something back home. And you? Architecture, or what?”

Miles smiled and typed his reply.

“Exactly. It wasn’t always easy, either. Lots of nights at the computer and models that just wouldn’t turn out the way I wanted. More math than I’d have liked, but that’s part of it, of course. But now I’m here at Summit Corp, and it’s a good fit. I was just as lucky as you to land a job here back home. So you’re officially back in Mapleton again? Living here, too?”

“Yeah, I’m living in my parents’ old house now. Mom got divorced and moved in with her new partner. He has this big apartment in town, and she didn’t want to keep the house all to herself anymore. So I moved in here. I’m really loving having so much space and peace and quiet all to myself right now.”

Miles sank deeper into the couch and felt the old, familiar warmth of memories from a better, simpler time welling up in his chest.

The old house. He still knew it so well. The stairs in front of the door. The garden. The attic where they’d sat for hours. Her old childhood bedroom where they’d read comic books or played on their Game Boys. Most guys would probably think of their best buddy when they reminisced about things like that, not a girl. But for Miles, Erin had always been the center around which his childhood had revolved. And now, when he thought of the beautiful, blonde woman, he wanted to finally take a chance on something more than just friendship.

“I totally believe you. After years in the dorm, I was so happy to finally have a big apartment to myself, and you’ve got even more space all to yourself with a house. I’m glad you’re back here. I think the city still feels familiar.”

“Me too. It’s weird to be back here after such a long time, and at the same time, it feels like I never really left. God, we’re talking like old farts coming back to their birthplace after 50 years. Maybe we’re sea turtles? Oh well, whatever. If you’re really up for doing something together, that’d be really cool. Maybe grab a drink, or better yet, go out for a nice meal somewhere?”

Miles felt his fingers pause briefly. The question was so simple and direct, and yet it sent everything spinning in his head. He wanted to—very much so. He wanted it so much that it almost hurt. But at the same time, thoughts arose within him that he couldn’t stop.

He thought about Erin’s body. About the photos. About the fuller arms and the more voluptuous breasts he’d seen in the picture with her mother. He wondered if that was enough for him. If she might have gained even more weight since then. If she was soft enough for what he really wanted. Miles didn’t want to be with a woman again who wasn’t his type. Yes, it was a perverse fetish to be turned on by a woman who was extremely overweight and was getting even fatter, but that’s just how he was wired. He wanted to finally feel some proper curves under his hands. Soft fat. Thighs he could sink his hands into. A butt that jiggled just right and a belly you could really lift up and slap down. And most of all, he wanted Erin to be like that. But he couldn’t know that—and certainly couldn’t force it. Miles knew what feelings he had for the blonde woman, but he also knew what he was secretly into. At the same time, he was afraid. What if Erin just wanted their old friendship back? What if he confessed his feelings and she recoiled? What if all those years and all the unspoken things between them remained nothing more than memories? Still, he had no other choice. He simply had to see her again and take a chance on her.

He took a deep breath and typed his reply.

“Sure. I’d be totally happy to. It’s just that this week is still pretty packed. Lots of overtime and stuff, even working from home. But I’d have time on Saturday. Can we meet somewhere in town?”

“Saturday sounds great. I’m really looking forward to it. Just let me know when and where, and I’ll be there. I’ll also think about which place we could go to.”

Miles felt relief and nervousness washing over him at the same time. She’d agreed so easily. So straightforwardly. Meanwhile, he was sitting here feeling like an idiot who overthought everything way too much. But could you really blame him? Erin had gone from being his best friend to his secret crush, even though he hadn’t seen her in so long. On top of that, she seemed to have—at least in terms of her looks—developed into a type he found pretty sexy.

“Cool. Let’s do it then.”

“I’m looking forward to it. And tell me… how did you actually come up with the idea to message me? After all this time?”

Miles thought for a moment. The truth was complicated, and he didn’t want to spill the whole story. Understandably, he also didn’t want to tell Erin that he’d been regularly poring over old pictures of her for years and had only just now mustered the courage to message her again. So he stuck to what he could say without any trouble.

“I stumbled across your profile. On Instagram. Saw the new photos and thought I’d just reach out. By the way, you look really pretty in that photo with your mom.”

The three dots appeared again, and he waited for Erin’s reply. This time it took a little longer than before, and she seemed to pause a few times in between.

“Thanks! But that photo is already a few months old. Hold on a sec.”

Miles furrowed his brow and stared at the screen. Then a new message came in. A photo message. He tapped on it, and the selfie opened.

Erin was beaming at the camera. Her long blonde hair was wrapped in a towel, and a few drops of water were still scattered here and there on her face. You could only see her from the chest up. A little cleavage, and below that, the edge of the towel she’d wrapped around her body. Miles immediately noticed the arm she was using to hold the phone. It was round, soft, and plump. A fair amount of fat dangled from Erin’s thick upper arm, like a soft pillow. Miles suspected that her elbows would probably be slightly rounded if she simply let her arms hang down. Her shoulders, on the other hand, were rather narrow, and her neck was quite slender. The contrast made her even more alluring. Erin’s cheeks were round and sweet, and slightly flushed from the hot water of the shower.

Miles felt his cock go hard instantly. His heart immediately began to race—even that little bit of skin and that soft, plump arm were enough to set him off.

Erin was picture-perfect. So natural, feminine, and soft. Without makeup and still fresh and wet right out of the shower. He imagined her standing somewhere in Mapleton right now, practically naked in her house, having taken this photo for him. Just for him.

The thought made him even harder. The fact that even this rather tame picture of Erin triggered such a reaction in him clearly showed what he felt for her—and especially for her body, which was now even more beautiful than before.

He typed with slightly trembling fingers.

“Thanks for the picture. It looks pretty alluring.”

A somewhat lame word, but “alluring” described the picture pretty well in his eyes—as long as he didn’t want to blurt out that it was incredibly sexy, that it was making him damn horny, and that he’d love to see everything about Erin right then and there.

The reply came almost immediately this time, too.

“Thanks, but that was nothing yet…”

Miles stared at the words. His mouth suddenly went dry. Was she flirting? Really? After all these years and after this first contact, was she writing something like that? He didn’t know what to say in reply. Maybe she was just being playful and teasing him a little? That would be typical of her, but would she really do it with a picture like that if she wasn’t trying to test whether he was a little into her?

Maybe it was nothing. Or maybe it was everything after all. He sat there, feeling the excitement and uncertainty churning inside him at the same time, and he couldn’t take his eyes off the picture. But before Miles could overthink everything as usual, Erin sent him another picture.A selfie taken from a very similar angle as before. Once again, Erin beamed at the camera with her beautiful face. This time, she’d loosened the towel around her head, and her still-wet blonde hair fell around her, past her shoulders. She was also wearing glasses, which she was playfully adjusting with the hand that wasn’t holding the camera. She’d also leaned forward a little more this time, so Miles could glimpse a bit deeper into the gorgeous cleavage above the towel wrapped around her body. It was still hard to tell how large her breasts were, but for Miles, what he could see was already heavenly. God, she looked so damn sexy.“I completely forgot that you couldn’t even recognize me in the first picture,” she wrote afterward, adding a few laughing emojis.“Blonde and wearing glasses—that’s sure to bring back more memories, right?”

Miles set his phone aside for a moment and took a deep breath. The light from the lamp cast long shadows on the wall, and outside, the headlights of cars flickered across the ceiling. He thought of the old staircase in front of the house. Of the afternoons in the garden. Of the evenings in the attic. So many memories, but also a hell of a lot of fantasies and desires, the thought flashed through the young man’s mind. No one could mean something like that just for fun or in a completely innocent way—she had to want more.

He picked up his phone again and typed quickly.

“Hey there! I’ve always thought you looked even better with glasses anyway.”Even though the reply was still a bit tentative, Miles had made up his mind. He’d forced himself to text Erin again at last. But if he was honest with himself, he was head over heels in love with her. Even more so now than in all those years when he’d just been reminiscing. On top of that, he naturally wanted to finally embrace his fat fetish with confidence, but no matter how much weight Erin had actually gained—or hadn’t—he was going to try to win her over. The dots indicating a reply appeared, disappeared, and appeared again.

Miles now knew exactly what he wanted.
