Yippee ki yay, MotherF..ker!! I knew this movie was coming soon…and I’m so glad you’ve chosen to watch it NOT at Christmas time. I’m probably in the minority here, but I am of the opinion that this is not a Christmas movie (with traditional Christmas themes and messages), but a totally awesome action film that just happens to take place during Christmas time. The action movie that changed the face of the action genre, because John MacClane was an everyday blue collar man who proved that you don’t need to have muscles on top of muscles to be a hero. And of course, Mr. Alan Rickman who, in his first ever movie role, portrayed one of the best movie villains ever. A villain who is suave, intelligent, sophisticated, funny, and quite well dressed. If it weren’t for his terrorist ways…oh wait, who said they were terrorists? Welcome to the party, Kate!

Wait a great surprise, Kate! The director, John McTiernan, is one of my favorites, he's made some truly outstanding films. I *believe you've already seen Predator which he made right before Die Hard, but you should also make a point to seek out The Hunt For Red October, Last Action Hero, Die Hard with a Vengeance (DH#3) and The 13th Warrior.

Rick Rodriguez

Yes! You've taken your first steps into a larger world, Kate.

This was so much fun. I had never seen this movie before. The effects, the music. The end credits with Ode to Joy. Now that’s a Christmas movie. Alexander Godunov the bad guy either the long blond hair was a top Russian dancer in the world of ballet. Prior to that he had played an Amish in Harrison Ford’s Witness. By the way Witness with Harrison Ford would be an amazing movie to react to. I think you would love it.

Been going on a bit of an Alan Rickman kick as of late. And I’m here for it! 😄

I will not engage in the Christmas movie debate. I will greatly enjoy watching Dwayne T. Robinson getting called out by McClane for getting, uh... buggered on national TV.

Fun reaction Kate! The reason them cutting the power to the building is significant is because the final lock on the vault was an electromagnetic seal. Cutting the power would defeat the lock and finally allow them to get into the vault This was Hans plan from the beginning. And why they took hostages instead of a straight robbery. Because Hans knew that it was FBI standard operating procedure to cut the power in response to a hostage situation The other Die Hard movies are definitely worth watching if you feel inclined

Another blood pumping reaction on MDwK! Love watching your eyes widen in disbelief every few minutes. Action movies in the 80s and 90s are just a different breed of animal…an untamed animal. I lost it during the scene when Al first arrives at the Nakatomi Tower and John is trying to figure out how to get his attention and you said “Whatever you find, you have to improvise!” Well…he certainly did just that with that dead body. You also said that the explosion of the roof looked so real that they must have set off actual explosions. And you would be correct. The Nakatomi Plaza is the actual headquarters of 20th Century Fox, the studio behind the film. And several of the top floors were still under construction. So they allowed the director to actually set off explosions for the ultimate in realism. Bruce Willis seems like he was tailor-made for this role. But he was far from being the studio’s first choice for the role of John McClane. Arnold Schwarzenegger, Harrison Ford, Sylvester Stallone, Mel Gibson, Clint Eastwood, Robert DeNiro, and Al Pacino, along with several other actors, were approached first, but turned down the role. Bruce Willis ran with the role once he got it, and it thrust him into the A List of bankable superstars in Hollywood. “What’s meant to be will always find a way”.

OMG One of my favorite films! I remember watching this in 2007 thinking that this happened in the late 1990s like when I was born but come to think if it, it happened a lot earlier didn't it lol. There is a similar 1995 action movie that I strongly recommend called Sudden Death with a similar plot. Just like Steven Seagals Hard to Kill, which you must see, I think these 80's/90's movies do shine some light on that domestic thriller culture which surrounds crime. These movies were really popular pre September 11th, then it diverged into military or sci fi/rom coms. Thats just my daily historic assessment from Sam. Maybe I should do these more often haha.

The reason the 80's were the best is that there were no computers making things from nothing. If you wanted to blow up a building, you had to go find one and really blow it up. Back then, people were artists at manipulating reality, but it was real. Same director as Predator for this one. This one is the definition of a perfect action film.

Great catch on the musical thing where you mentioned you heard Canon and then some of the same notes in the score. Are you into music theory or play an instrument? Are you gonna watch the other sequels? They're very good as well. Except maybe 5.

Fun watch. I saw this at the theater when it first came out.
