You chose to go North.

That decision has led us here.

The North can mean many things. Isolation. Cold. Wilderness. Small towns. Mountains. Forgotten places. It can be a physical location, or just a feeling. Somewhere distant, quiet, and unforgiving.

Below is a selection of films that all exist along that path in different ways. Some take place in frozen landscapes. Others capture the mindset, culture, or isolation that defines the North.

Vote for as many options as you’d like. The film with the most votes will be the next movie reaction.

The North remembers 😉 I went with Misery 😬

I wanted to vote Northeast...towards Canada!!

"Ya know, it's the Radisson, so it's pretty good,". I voted for Fargo

The Deer Hunter was the first "serious" movie I saw, and man is it a banger!

Rick Caruso

Fargo is a great movie and living in Minnesota ( where the crime and most of the movie takes place makes it all the better. The Deer Hunter is a Classic and Di Nero and Waltkin are amazing, though I don’t think that will get the votes. Also Misery is a great choice and one of Jimmy Caan’s best roles. Excited to see how it all turns out.

Some really nice options here! But there are 3 that caught my eye immediately. Fargo is a classic with great performances from Frances McDormand and William H Macy. Plus…I would love to hear your version of a Minnesota accent, heck yah! Misery is a classic adaptation of a Stephen King novel, again with an amazing (award winning) performance from Kathy Bates. And being based on a Stephen King novel, you know you’ll be on the edge of your seat much of the time, feeling completely uneasy. And I have to pick the lone comedy on this list. I know you love to laugh along with a good comedy, and I love to hear you laugh. Groundhog Day is perfect for that, and obviously Groundhog Day just passed, so perfect timing. North, Miss Teschmacher! North!

Fargo is very good, and the TV show is REALLY good. One of the best TV shows ever, especially season 1 with Billy Bob Thornton.

"Slap Shot" is my favourite hockey movie, by a long shot. Paul Newman!

Fargo: I love Frances McDormand in nearly everything she does (hint hint - Almost Famous, Three Billboards...). Groundhog Day: it's never too late to watch Bill Murray get slapped around, and in my favorite role of his (the Ghostbusters franchise and Lost in Translation are top 5). The Deerhunter invokes too many sad memories for me. The others are OK. Pasadena on Cliffhanger. Thanks, Kate!

Michael Wilbanks

Fargo please. It's time to go down the Coen Brothers rabbit hole!

Slapshot. For everyone's good. If Kate picks Fargo I will never shut up commenting about that movie. When I saw that in the theater in Madison, WI everyone cheered when they showed a split second clip of the UW Badgers vs MN. Gophers hockey game in the background. 🤣

As of right now, Groundhog Day and Fargo are neck and neck. Hopefully you’ll react to both films, Kate.

Michael Muggeridge

I voted Paul Newman's favorite role, Reggie Dunlop in Slapshot. The greatest sports film of all time. Also, the finest portrayal of heroic, well adjusted youth - The Hanson Brothers. This poll has made me wonder: imagine if Kathy Bates' character in Misery had rescued The Hanson Brothers?
