***YOU CAN CHOOSE AS MANY AS YOU LIKE***The path has been chosen.

You followed the dust trail, crossed into the unknown, and chose Into the Wild Frontier.

Now one final decision remains.

At the end of this route lies a collection of films about dangerous lands, distant horizons, lost worlds, colonial outposts, impossible journeys, and people pushed far beyond the edge of comfort.

Some stories lead into the heart of Africa. Some follow rivers, deserts, jungles, and forgotten roads. Some are tales of survival. Others are about ambition, empire, legend, and the price of venturing too far.

The route with the most votes will decide the next collection waiting for Kate.

So choose carefully…

Hey, Kate. I kicked off the vote. I have to be honest, though, I am not familiar with most of these choices. I picked three I've heard of. I'm sure they are all great movies in their own right 🥰

lol…I don’t know why, but as I read your post, in my head I was hearing Rod Sterling from The Twilight Zone recite your message to me. It’s the extreme heat getting to me. There was no hesitation once I saw the choices. It’s The Ghost and the Darkness for me…100%. It probably won’t win, but I hope, even if it doesn’t, you’ll give it a watch for the channel at some point. Val Kilmer and Michael Douglas in the heart of Africa in an action thriller based on a true story. I think you’ll love it!

Great movies, all. The Bridge on the River Kwai is probably the best, but I LOVE Zulu. It's one of the movies that most influenced other directors. Peter Jackson cited it as an inspiration for The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers, and Ridley Scott for Gladiator. In fact Scott even used some audio clips from Zulu in the battle at the beginning of Gladiator.

Michael Walsh

Dandy list Kate, I've seen 7 of these. I like all 7. Top choice: The Bridge on the River Kwai. Zulu and the Man who Would be King, come next. The Mission and Khartoum are sleepers. Everyone should watch the African Queen, but that goes for all John Huston directed films, TMWWBK is also a Huston film. Out of Africa deserves a re-watch, video stores were on every block when I last watched it - Redford and Streep do Isak Dinesen. Movie Recommendation, Kate : probably not for the channel but for your own watch, Mister Johnson (1990) is set in West Africa in the 1920s, stars Pierce Brosnan, and a very good but little known African actor in the starring role. Based on the novel by Anglo-Irish author (and former colonial official in Nigeria), Joyce Cary.

The Ghost and the Darkness is not only cool (Jaws in Africa), but the real life lions involved are on display at the Field Museim here in Chicago!

Great selections to pick from. Seen them all, and a few are on my go to list when I want a good rewatch.

The African Queen. Bogart and Kate Hepburn together. Great stuff! Bridge On The River Kwai. David Lean. Huge action adventure. Presaged the greatness of Lawrence of Arabia. The Man Who Would Be King. Sean Connery and Michael Caine together. Like The African Queen directed by John Huston.

Out of every movie on this list, I’ve seen these three: The Bridge over The River Kwai, Zulu, and The Ghost and The Darkness. If you end up reacting to the River Kwai film, see if you recognize one of the main characters. Something tells me you may already know the actor from another galaxy. 😉

Might not make it, but Out of Africa is prime Robert Redford and Meryl Streep. Just doesn’t get better than that.

Great selections! In terms of grueling on-location shoots, The African Queen was one of the most difficult ever and great preparation for The Bridge on the River Kwai (both produced by Sam Spiegel).

I put my vote for Man who Would be King but no question, Bridge is the best of the lot.

I've never seen the African Queen. I'm going with that one.

Mytop picks are Bridge On The River Kwai and Ghost And The Darkness. Bridge is simply a classic and Ghost features the legendary Val Kilmer. You can't go wrong with either. I often whistle the song that the POWs whistle in Bridge when I'm focused on a task or multitasking. It's a catchy one! Great list Kate! Can't wait to see which ones get picked.
