“Im the Dude, man.” It’s time to throw on my bathrobe and go bowling! After I watch your reaction to this classic, of course!

Chester Beals

So happy this didn't drop on Shomer Shabbos.

Kate, I absolutely adore your reasons, and to this classic makes it doubly enjoyable! Apropos of nothing in particular, some clothing trivia - most of the Dudes clothes (including the jellies) were Bridges own. The iconic Pendleton Westerly cardie was out of production, but owing to the huge demand after this movie, they started making it again. I've go one, best £200 I've ever spent on clothing! The turfing company, a family business, named "Medina Sod" on the back of the Dudes last bowling shirt is real and still exists (albeit having had a name change).

There’s a beverage man! Great fun Kate! If you haven’t already, you’ll love O Brother by the Coens as well as Bucemi and Frances McDormand in Fargo. And Fargo the TV series is fabulous, and even has a call back to the bowling alley scenes. I know you loved the Civil War movie Glory. Check out Sam Elliott as General Buford in Gettysburg…fabulous movie. Marc in Philly

I'm looking forward to this rewatch. First thought is always I wish the Coen Brothers would have substituted Jimmy Buffett for the Eagles in the script. Last time I watched it I was appreciating greatness of John Goodman asking "is this your homework, Larry" scene.

Hi, Kate. Thank you for watching and reacting to "The Big Lebowski". Jeff Bridges has worked with the Coen brothers again years later in, "True Grit" (2010), which is NOT a remake of the classic western starring John Wayne - it is based on the original source material. For looking up cast members and where they might have worked together, this IMDb search page might prove useful: https://www.imdb.com/search/common/?opfrule=httpDefault

And now you know I why I like to use the word “bummer” a lot. Man, what a trip this movie is. And it was even trippier watching it along with you. At one point you said Mr. Lebowski was like Waternoose from Monsters Inc, and The Dude was like Sully. I started laughing because The Dude’s best friend Walter (John Goodman) is ACTUALLY the voice of Sully, and his other friend, Donny (Steve Buscemi), is the voice of Randall Boggs. Six Degrees of Monsters Inc! My favorite scene is the whole “Gutterballs” dream sequence. I can imagine The Coen Brothers just lazing around a den at home eating Five Guys cheeseburgers and drinking vanilla milkshakes and saying to each other, “How can we make this movie even weirder than it already is?” Of course! A bowling musical number! And Jeff Bridges just went with it…his face as he’s floating through the dancers legs is priceless. The opening scene with the tumbleweed was a cool use of symbolism. The Dude is just like the tumbleweed…bouncing around LA, just going with the flow and totally out of place in a high speed urban setting. Who says bowling isn’t a serious sport? Just ask Walter and his semi-automatic. “This is bowling. There are rules!” Viva siempre Los Gypsy Kings! 🕺🎸

The characters in this film are just chef's kiss. Even the ones who just make a short appearance are just nailing their strangeness. I wonder how you present this to the actors to get them to sign on, the first script reading must have been very weird.

Fantastic reaction. It's a cult classic. This movie was not very successful when it was released. It took a few years, especially after "Fargo" was a hit, to steamroll to cult classic status. Suddenly you've watched it three or four times and you're quoting lines. But at the time of it's release, it was crickets. 🦗🏏 Coen Brothers knew Jeff Bridges would have no problem being "the dude". He already made the role legendary by '73. (*Ignore any racing movie with Tom Cruise.)😂 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N-e_liywuIQ The song playing while "The Jesus" is a bowling is a Spanish version of Eagles "Hotel' California". Another note-I guess some of the Eagles (not Joe Walsh-he's cool) didn't like the taxi cab diss in the movie by Bridges. 🙄 The iron lung is currently my new favorite detail I underappreciated before. Goodman actually shifts his eyes away from the camera and he say's "You're killing your father, Larry!" 😂😉👍

Well, well, well … happy birthday to me (happened on the 6th) 😁 If you haven’t seen either, I recommend both Barton Fink and Raising Arizona for two very different tones.
